We stayed at Castaway for 10 days, and we were very comfortable. The location is perfect in Mushroom Bay, and we had everything we needed. The staff at Castaway are amazing and friendly, and were very considerate of us. The breakfast was great, and although there was no coffee facilities, we were a short walk from Mushroom coffee - the best coffee on Nusa. The beds were so comfy and the pillows were great! Every evening our room was sprayed for mosquitoes too, which I thought was a very considerate touch. The pool was lovely, and the hammock, day beds and sun loungers were the perfect spots to soak up some sun and have a nap! We would stay again

Unfortunately it was a little more run down than the Instagram photos show. It was also due a deep clean. Things like dust under the bed and the bathrooms needed a good scrub. In one of the villa bathrooms, the toilet seat was falling off. Unfortunately the aircon struggled in the heat, although it was still a relief from the humidity. The music across the road was loud, but as we were up until 10pm anyway it didn’t bother us and our 2 year old slept through it. One thing that definitely needs rectifying immediately would be the missing and chipped tiles in the pool. My husband managed to cut himself multiple times in the pool, which was disappointing.

What a charming property. Perfect for families and friends travelling together. There are 4 2 bedroom villas around an inviting pool and a three bed villa down behind it with own pool. Hosts were lovely and breakfast was very nice with lots to choose from served on our deck at a time suited to us. Lots of restaurants around the resort and Mushroom Beach only 300m walk. Could do with a little maintenance as timber boards around the pool need nailing down or replaced a few tiles to be replaced in bathrooms. Beds very comfortable and we would happily stay here again.

Just a little maintenance around the pool

Beautiful villa with lush, dreamy tropical landscaping. Just as pictured, probably even better than expected. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that breakfast was included. We stayed 4 nights and did end up eating breakfast out one day for a bit of variety. Staff were all lovely and they arranged scooters for us when our snorkeling/diving trips were cancelled due to rough seas. So rough that all ferries off the island were cancelled on our planned departure day and the hotel worked diligently to help us communicate with the ferry company. The new guests couldn't arrive by ferry either so luckily we were able to stay an extra night and didn't have to scramble for accommodation. We did find some good massage places, local restaurants, and a yoga studio within walking distance. You'd probably want a scooter to see the rest of the islands though if you're staying for more than a night.

Mushroom Bay is on the quieter end of the island and there are fewer options here for restaurants, etc. The beach was lovely white sand but relatively small for the number of boats coming and going constantly to drop off passengers, which made swimming here not as idyllic as I had imagined. There were two beautiful double rooms with ensuites. The third bedroom, which wasn't pictured in the listings, was a dark room off the kitchen that was just big enough to fit two single beds and was down the hall from the bathroom attached to one of the other bedrooms. Fine for kids, but you wouldn't want to draw the short straw if you were travelling with friends.

Lovely staff who went above and beyond and always made everything work for you. The location is brilliant, and the villa itself was spacious and well designed. We loved the pool! The bathroom outside was amazing.

The only thing lacking to us giving 10 points was the limited choice for breakfast, which was mostly always the same, except for the smoothie bowl. Some tiles broken in the pool, so the girls sometimes cut their feet slightly. Just so you know: two villas have street noise and there is live music next door until about 10. We enjoyed the music though 🤩

Great pool and vibe of the place. Nice interior! The massage place next door to the hotel which the staff recommended was really nice and the mushroom espresso cafe was really good too and in walking distance.

We had a great time but all the restaurants and activities like sauna/ice bath, spa and surfing were far from the hotel. We didn’t mind as we rented a scooter but next time we would probably prefer to stay closer to the boardwalk. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and the free breakfast was a nice gesture but wasn’t that good when there’s so many yummy cafes around instead. There is a bar opposite the hotel which plays loud music every night and the walls are very thin so you can hear the conversations of the people in the other room. We didn’t mind but just so you know :)

Just a beautiful property that accommodated our family and friends for a 50th birthday. We booked 2 villas which had interconnecting door so was easy to go between villa room. Our friends booked the main house and 4 other villas so it was perfect for our group. Staff were amazing, organised scooters for us, kept rooms clean and spotless and made fabulous breakfast daily with freshly squeezed orange juice.

Some Pool tiles were broken and my son cut his toe. Staff were very attentive to give him band aid and apologised about broken tiles and hope this will be fixed.

Great location only 5 minute walk to beachfront restaurants. Our 2 bedroom villa was lovely and spacious- very comfy bed and pillows. Lots of room for 4 of us. The staff were lovely and attentive and pool area perfect- located just across from pool so easy to have a swim and relax by the pool or on the villa verandah. Thanks Castaway- highly recommend 🙏😎

The bathroom showerhead and toilet push button were heavily corroded so could do with putting new ones in. There was mould on our shower floor so needing extra cleaning there. The gardenbed in the bathroom was bare and just had stones in it- could do with some plants to make it look nicer. An extra bin in the bedroom area would be good.

The staff are incredibly accommodating, helpful and accessible. Always had a smile on their faces and made our holiday very special and enjoyable! The private villa was perfect for our family and so beautifully maintained. Beds were comfortable and the space was perfect for our family of four. Easily would accommodate more comfortably.

Mosquitos were a bit of a challenge as the indoor outdoor living space allowed for them to get inside. Bedrooms are well protected if doors are kept closed and doors to the exterior closed at dusk. Otherwise can not fault this beautiful place

The property is beautiful, well maintained and the staff are exceptional, attentive, kind and helpful. We will absolutely be back one day either to stay in the private villa or come with friends. If you’re travelling with a group of friends or families, the small rooms off the pool is such a great option! Unfortunately, we shortened our stay as the noise from live music impacts the small villas that back onto the road. We love live music, so it’s a great little vibe, it just wasn’t ideal for our family and we had the room that was most impacted. It does end by 10-11. Weirdly enough, it’s louder in the room than outside! However this would not have bothered us if we weren’t a young family who rely on ourselves / kids sleeping at a reasonable hour and we really wanted to be rested. The staff were so understanding and offered to refund the nights we didn’t stay despite their clear non-refundable cancellation policy. This was so incredibly appreciated and testament to the character of people who manage Castaway.
