We would like to thank the kind hosts at this fantastic place. We spent a wonderful week in Chiavenna during our holiday. We planned this trip as history fans to explore if we could find any traces of emigrants from Grisons to our country in the 16th and 17th centuries (families like Losio, Pedroni, Vertemate, and others) – and we found many! We went on a beautiful trek with views to the village of Lagünz, visited Lake Como, Lago di Lei, and even crossed into Switzerland. Thank you for a great stay and the breakfasts with Girolamo – it was lovely!

If you don’t like getting up early with the chickens, make sure to close the window well or take earplugs – the roosters here wake up very early! We live in the countryside, so it didn’t bother us at all, and it really fits with the place :-)

An amazing, beautifully designed room in a hilltop village overlooking Chiavenna, the valley, and surrounding mountains, with breathtaking views from the room's large windows. The hosts were exceptionally kind, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent and fairly priced.

The road to the village is narrow, and although technically two-way, there are spots where only one car can pass, requiring occasional reversing. Parking is located outside the village, about a 5-minute walk from the property, so it’s probably best to bring in only essentials (or a trolley), leaving the rest in the car.

I’m ready to move in. This place is great. We stayed in the music room with a stunning view. We enjoyed the walk into Chiavenna despite it being challenging, and we ended our days back at Vecchiascuola before dark to watch the sunset with the windows open and the wind whipping through our room. Mornings in the Music room are a special treat also. I miss it already and I really hope to return one day. Some tips: - Have at least the small breakfast in the hotel if not the full. It was nice to start the day with a nice croissant and coffee, meet the other guests, and have an opportunity to chat with the hosts. Plus the cat is pretty entertaining. - Dinner at the restaurant is also highly recommended. Great food at a reasonable price. - There was rough weather one day and we ended up hanging in the room for much of it, but it was great. We sat in front of the window and soaked in the mountain view and watched Chiavenna move through the day. All this to say that the Vecchiscuola itself is a destination, at least for us.

This B&B in an old school building has a stunning view and is of exceptional beauty. Andre, the proud owner and host of the place, did an exceptional job renovating the place. He managed to respect and integrate the rich history of the school and town into the renovated place. The town has a medieval vibe and is located on the sunny side of Chiavenna. This makes the area also great for hikes and adventure. We wish Andre luck with finding a manager for the restaurant under the B&B. We had a great time and will come back for sure!

An oasis of tranquility. Lovely people and a super top- floor studio with breathtaking views from the double opening windows. Peace and relaxation in a wonderful old village setting high in the hills.

Not much at all. Everything we needed was there. We knew about the walk down from the car park to the B&B but it’s not as bad as one might think.

Amazing view, stunning building. The site history (it was a school until 1981) has been beautifully preserved and integrated in a very well studied renovation. Vecchiascuola breathes history but with the tiniest attention for details and a great eye for comfort. I recommend the apartments with a view. Stunning! The hosts were kind and helpful! A true full immersion in the Valchiavenna tradition.

Breathtaking views of the alps. Delicious and plentiful breakfast. Completely refurbished old school of the small village of Pianazzola. The B&B is an 8-minute drive up the mountain from Chiavenna. The host Andre is very attentive and provides helpful tips. The Skiarea Valchiavenna is a 45-minute drive away. Nice drive through the alps and easy to get to.

Location!! We had a minivan and it was little challanging to get up the hill, but it was worth it!

Could have used aircon, but was OK. Days around our stay where really hot! 30+ every day - room was little hot to fall a sleep, but with opened windows it was fine

This place is one I will recommend to all my friends, you cannot ask for a better view, I would happy pass a year there! The rooms were really like lovely little apartments, more than comfortable, and the little village around is the prettiest I've ever seen. I'll be back.

We could choose the day before if we wanted breakfast for the following day or not which was great. It was also a good breakfast in a beautiful location with an amazing view!
