The view from the balcony of room 4 across to the Teatro Massimo was gorgeous. 2 layers of double glazed doors made for an almost totally soundproof room despite the bustling location, which is right in the centre of the interesting bits of the city. The bed was very wide and comfy. The breakfast was great, a selection of pastries/bread and cold meats, cheeses, and roasted veg/olives. Cereal/fruit/juice/tea/coffee also available.

Towels weren’t replaced/cleaned each day (not really needed for 3 nights but might’ve been for longer). Tricky to find entrance initially - I’d recommend a bigger sign! (Ring the buzzer to the right of an archway with big wooden doors with bronze knockers that looks like it couldn’t possibly be a hotel entrance)

The location is unbeatable, overlooking the Teatro Massimo from one balcony, then the other two balconies giving a view, of Palermo street life. The apartment is stunning, very spacious and with massive ceiling heights (as a guess, I would say 5 metres or more). In the heat of Palermo this is really helpful, making the rooms feeling cool and comfortable. We opened all the balcony doors and shutters and let the cacophony of Palermo life permeate the apartment, but it is loud and unrelenting. We loved it and it makes you feel alive, but should you prefer, some quiet, the sound proofing is excellent with shutters and balcony doors closed. The staff are super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful, they also tried to accommodate check in requests and looking after luggage on check out dates. The breakfast is excellent. They can arrange safe secure parking a 150 metres from the apartment at 25 euros a day (something to be considered in Palermo). Guisy, one of the lovely ladies that work there, she unexpectedly knocked on the apartment door the first evening with a gratis bottle of chilled Prosecco. She had noticed it was my birthday the day before arrival, it was just an act of kindness. Palermo is a magical city, inhabited with beautiful kind people, however long your stay, it won't be long enough to explore this city.

Really nothing could be improved.

Location was great! Just opposite Teatro Massimo (a stunning building) and at the end of a main pedestrian street with lots of restaurants and Gelato places. Despite being on a busy intersection, the (spacious) rooms were very quiet (thanks to effective double glazing). The staff was super nice. Giusy at reception was very friendly and helpful, she gave us great recommendations for food and arranged taxis. Also a shoutout to the lovely lady who served breakfast. The lady who cleaned the room was also very nice and spoke french.

The corner room was very spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was clean and modern, and the breakfast was very sufficient and served attractively.

The access to the hotel was challenging as there were many steps and a small elevator involved in getting to the proper floor. There was even a staircase down one flight from the elevator landing, necessitating carrying heavy suitcases down to the entry door. Luckily, the staff was very helpful. Parking was also not ideal in that there was a goodly walk from the parking location to the hotel, again with heavy suitcases.

I try not to oversell, but this was one of the best hotel experiences I have had. After a long, hot day of travel we pulled up to the unassuming exterior. When we walked into the hotel floor, however, it opened into a lovely space, filled with light and art. We were welcomed by a lovely staff person who provided great information and was exceedingly helpful (as were all the staff members we encountered). When we got to our room we were overwhelmed. It was a spacious corner room on the second floor, high ceiling, full of light, gorgeous, with one french door window opening onto the beautiful pedestrian walkway Via Maqueda and the other opening directly onto the Teatro Massimo. You literally could not be any closer to the theater. The soundproofing was excellent, so when the doors were closed it was totally quiet, but at night a virtuoso pianist was playing keyboard in the main square, and we left the doors open and listened to the beautiful music. Of course one can't plan for having a concert outside one's window, and we were able to park our car in a space directly in front of the building, but these things just added to perfection. I appreciated prior reviews that highlighted the need to make sure one booked the type of room expected, because I realized that "city view" and "landmark view" were different. Both are fabulous, but I would have been a bit disappointed if I had expected Teatro Massimo and ended up with other city view. Oh and the buffet breakfast was phenomenal!!! Coffee and eggs to order, and lovely pastries, cheeses, meats, etc.

We loved this hotel B&B. The location was perfect, right in the center of the action! The hotel is in an old historic building, and the room, with it's 20 foot ceiling, reflected the historic nature of the building. The room was huge, with a balcony overlooking one of the main roads in downtown Palermo. They have added noise-proof doors, which is great, as this area of quite lively and noisy 24/7. The bed was probably the most comfortable of the 5 places we stayed on our Sicily trip. The breakfast had a lot of variety and was quite tasty. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We would definitely stay here again, as it was a great value for the money. The teatro Massimo was right next to the hotel and was pretty at night.

The towels could be softer, and I wish there was a coffee/espresso maker in the room. Otherwise, it was great.

The location could not have been better, right across from the opera house. We could walk to everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, so many options. The rooms looked out on the opera house. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The windows were well insulated so even on a Saturday night, it was quite quiet.

The only thing to be aware of is that you have to walk up and downstairs to get in and out. There is an elevator, but it doesn’t stop on the same level as the property. This was no issue at all for us. Just something to be aware of.

Great charming old building with a soul, perfectly located on a main pedestrian street, with shops and restaurants etc, left and right. This is a hectic and enjoyable location to invite inside when opening to the balcony, but fortunately the apartment had a really impressive sound reduction when closed, for a good sleep. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room very clean. A highly recommendable place to stay in Palermo.

Room was minimalistic decorated and felt not quite as cozy as expected from pictures. Not really a functional problem though.

We had a fantastic stay at Porta Maqueda. Our room had a balcony that faced the street. We were in a great location, right next to the historic centre (opposite Teatro Massimo). close to restaurants and bars. The buffet breakfast was good. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. We had a car so the hotel reserved a paid parking spot in a parking garage approximately 200m from room. Note: the parking garage is in ZTL zone but the parking garage looked after all the registration of number plates, so not issue. Although I wouldn't recommend driving in Palermo in general.

Really well located, clean and comfortable room with a lovely sunny breakfast area. Staff were great and a good selection at breakfast. Very comfortable beds. The nearby street is very, very touristy with a large number of restaurants with some pushy touts out the front, but walk a couple of blocks and there are some fantastic places to eat and see.

It was a little hard to identify the entrance, but once you find it it is great.
