This is an older Ryokan, but it offers a wonderful and authentic Japanese accommodation experience, rich in culture and charm. I stayed here with my family for three nights, including our 19-month-old baby, and we had a fantastic time. Since our room was already available, we were able to check in early, which was a big help after traveling. The service throughout our stay was warm, welcoming, and very attentive. The Ryokan was spotless and offered great value for money. Its location is excellent—just a short walk from a bus station, making it easy to get around. There is a small communal hot bath, separated by gender, which is typically shared among guests. However, each time I used it with baby, we had it all to ourselves, so it felt like a private experience. I appreciated being able to adjust the water temperature to make it more comfortable for the baby—he loved it! We were also provided with traditional Japanese robes, including a tiny one for our little one, which was a lovely touch. Our room had a stunning view of the river, which made our stay feel even more peaceful and relaxing. One of the highlights was the traditional Japanese breakfast. It was clear a lot of care went into preparing it, and each morning brought slight variations, keeping the experience fresh. We were served in a private dining room, which gave our baby space to move around when he got restless. The staff was also very accommodating with dietary preferences—we requested a fish substitute in advance, and they were happy to provide an alternative. It was mentioned that our options for breakfast was 7:30, 8, or 8am. We requested for 7:30. Breakfast was always ready for us right on time. We also loved that they had a high-chair for baby. Overall, this Ryokan delivered a unique and memorable experience for our whole family. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Japanese hospitality and tradition.

Miharaya Ryokan was one of the highlights of our 3-week trip to Japan. Located in the heart of Gujo, it offered a calm and serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxing. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice view of the river that we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. We also had breakfast one morning, and it was delicious and generously portioned.
The only downside was the bath access restrictions for guests with tattoos that cannot be covered, as you can’t use the bath if other guests are around. However, the staff were very considerate and surprised me by knocking on our door to let me know that the bath was available for me to use when it was free, which I really appreciated.

Location At the center of gujo hachiman village. Close to everything restaurants, attractions, bridges. Facility- the onsen experience, the room with small veranda facing the river. I slept in a futon in tatami mats - very traditional japanese experience checked off my bicket list. So thank you miharaya.
The staff are nice and helpful but Very minimal contact with staff. Theyre always busy i guess. Make sure when you go by express bus to be ready to walk aound 1.8 km to the ryokan or take the local bus or taxi. There was a communication breakdown with the host he was supposed to assist with picking me up from Gujo INTERCHANGE (im arriving by express bus) but on the day of my arrival he was not around. Dont know if he forgot or he didnt see my booking dot com messages or he was busy. Anyway the walk from ic is far. I did nit have ability to call as i only have data. Most taxis are jaoanese speaking . That didnt dampen my experience though. The walk from interchange has a sign that says “beaare of bears” so just be mindful of that if you walk.

My second stay at this ryokan was just as pleasant as my first in 2023. The proprietors are friendly, speak some English, and are very welcoming and gracious hosts. I had breakfasts provided and they were accommodating of my vegetarian diet, providing a traditional Japanese breakfast set of fruit, vegetables, rice, and tofu with tea and miso.
Those traditional hard pillows take some getting used to. The low door frames clipped my head a few times but that's not really a dislike so much as a warning to anyone over 5'10"!

Amazing guest house! We were shocked when we entered our room. The pictures doesn't do it justice. It's right by the river with a balcony seeing down to the river. Soo beautiful. Even considered extending our stay to just enjoy the hotel room. There is even a staircase down to the river from the hotel. The staff are really nice. We got shuttle from and to the station. Rooms super clean and with everything you need. Even yukata and a public bath with a big hot bath. The location is perfect. In the middle of town. In the most beautiful location. Close to the castle pathway too. Many restaurants and shops neighbors with the Ryokan. The staff were so nice. We got a free shuttle to and from the hotel. And they were even so nice, the day we left, i had forgotten something in my room. They came after us to the bus stop just to give it back. We also got a really nice kettle of cold tea everyday.
Nothing, everything was excellent.

very traditional, run by a family. i had a very comfortable sleep on the futon. they provided a yukata. shower is a public bath, comfortable sento. i hardly saw other guests. being next to the river is soothing. there was a cute little tv. there is a fridge and a sink in the room, and chairs to sit by the river, along with a floorchair in the tatami room area. it was clean and cozy. the reception lady was kind and carried my luggage for me, we communicated with google translate. this was my first ryokan experience, it was very traditional and homely. the location is very central, i had the loveliest time in gujo!
breakfast was very homemade, food was a bit cold but maybe its my fault for not reaching the breakfast on time (i was about 5min late)

Great little family run place. Everyone was very polite and helpfull, even they spoke little English but with google translate help made me feel welcomed. The room and everything in the hotel was very clean and warm. Breakfast was traditional Japanese type and it was exeptional made with local produce. Location of the place is great, it's right in the middle of the historical part of the town. It's 30 min by foot from the Gujo Hatchiman train station. A lot of places to eat around.
Everything was great.

The breakfast was superb. Hard to get a traditional breakfast like this in other places (they'll usually have a toast set or a onigiri set). Essentially, it's a lot of small dishes together -- not too much of each -- mixed with soup. For one morning, we even had "Kechan", which is a local dish of grilled chicken with cabbage on a small grill plate. The owner, although did not speak English well, kindly accommodated us there.
Many people said the bathing downstairs was inconvenient, but my friends and I loved it. It's not a large shower room (fits maybe 4 people in the tub in total), but it's a tub full of hot water, and onsen-style shower facilities (sit on a stool and bathe yourself). In the middle of winter, nothing gets you warm like a hot bath. I find that other accommodation that only have stand-up shower facilities cannot be as warm in the room like a bathing room can be, and it really keeps you warm throughout the winter.

I was very happy with my stay at Miharaya Ryokan and would definitely stay again. The location is fantastic, my room was clean, spacious and comfortable and the shared bathing facility was very good. Breakfast was large and tasty and the owners were friendly and attentive. All-in-all, I was very happy.
Miharaya Ryokan has wi-fi but my phone wouldn't connect. When I attempted to log-in my phone would default to an admin screen that required an additional password. I spoke to the owner but it couldn't be resolved. The only option I had was to sit in the lobby to connect to a different wifi there. This was a bit inconvenient as I was traveling for work and needed to be online. However overall, I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

First time being to this part of Japan and I will definitely come back again to escape from the city. Location is great if you don’t mind to go a bit further to escape from city life. Family friendly and incredibly beautiful view of the river.
I had some language barrier with the host but we are able to communicate just fine with arm gestures and google translate. Would definitely try their breakfast and dinner services next time.
