There are 3 different onsens, 1 at each of their buildings for us to try. Very relaxing experience. The hotel location is amazing. It is walkable within 2 3mins of the Gero station but there is also an available shuttle bus at Gero station if u have too many luggages. The breakfast spread is fabulous too with many varieties of japanese dish in bite sizes portions to try out, help with preventing food wastage also. My kids were both excited to sleep on the prepared futon in the ryokan style room

The room facade and facilitiies are quite old. The bathtub is quite small because its a square shape but doesnt matter much as we were showering or cleaning up in the onsen bath area most of the time. If do not have half board package, there are not that many places to eat in the evening as most shops close very early

This is our second opportunity to stay at Suimeikan, and there's a reason for it: Suimekan knows exactly what you need, without even you knowing. This is an authentic definition of bespoke luxury experiences, and I would highly recommend making the journey to stay again with Suimeikan. I first hand re-booked a second trip and already planning a 3rd. The grounds, the ambiance, the staff, the restaurants, and the in-rooms' amenities are at the top level of quality. We booked each time a private onsen in our Eastern style room, I am grateful for it, since it was like a sanctuary from the public spaces, for just Us. I need to mention the curated art throughout the facilities was inspiring and moving, during each stay. Every aspect of my holiday with Suimeikan, including our guest care representative, Sally was superb. Thank you Suimeikan teams for making our stay highly memorable, again. We've experienced you in Spring and in Winter, and we look forward to experiencing you a third time in Autumn! Arigatō Suimeikan Gero

Experiencing Suimeikan in Spring and in Winter, I can honestly say it was more busy during the Winter stay. This is not to say I did not like it. It was just a different way experiencing Suimeikan. Rather in the Winter we were more brave to go out and spend time in the local small businesses with the snow falling, while in the Spring, we were hesitant as to the rainfall. There is nothing I can write for something I liked ALL of it, in the two Seasons I have stayed. I look forward to staying again in the Autumn for changing of the leaves.

Location was very near to the Gero station which was less than 5 minutes walk and the hotel also offered pickup service to and fro on schedule. Staffs were super nice, helpful and professional. One of them would guide you to the room and give you clear explanation about the hotel/room and even teach you the right way to wear Yukata. We were in a group of five and the room that assigned to us was superb. It was a ryokan style room with tatami and a garden view from the window. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staffs would also help to make the mattress in the evening. The snacks that were given in the room were really tasty! The hotel was said to have 100 years history but it was really big, well maintained and pretty with Japanese traditional garden in the lobby and lots of arts and decorations in the buildings. There were 3 onsens available within 3 buildings which were all good to try out. I did not try the dinner but breakfast was just so so.

- The room was spacious, providing plenty of space to relax. - There are 4-5 different onsen, all clean and well-maintained, offering a great variety of bathing experiences. - For just 1000 yen, guests can access the pool and gym, adding more value to the stay. - The breakfast buffet is excellent, with a wide selection of delicious options to start the day. Overall, Suimeikan provides a comfortable and relaxing stay, with great facilities and amenities.

- The property shows a mix of new and older sections, which can make some areas feel a bit dated compared to others. - Guests are not allowed to eat food purchased outside in their rooms, which could be a downside for those who prefer more dining flexibility.

Even though not all staffs spoke English and it was challenging when communicating via phone, yet, they were willing to serve us. The period we stayed there the temperature was 5-9c, the central heater was on for the whole hotel. However, after spending time in the onsen and came back to my room, I felt that the room was too warm. I called the reception and told them about the room temperature. The staff came over to the room to tell us the air conditioning and heater system is centralised hence it cannot be adjusted room by room. He left and came back with an electic tall fan. We were thankful. The facility and decoration are in 70-80's style yet it is in a great condition. The room is spacious and clean. Amentinites in the bathroom are variety and from good japanese brand - nice smell and texture. Despite the light snow, the staffs waited outside to wave guests invluding us goodbye and did the Japanese bowing. Super impressive and super Japanese. Breakfast - not that good. No need to buy breakfast.

The hotel had 3 onsens, all were very good. One was particularly more up to date and newer while the others were more traditional. One was outside which was enjoyable but not note that both the men's and the women's were not overly large. The indoor baths were larger. We liked the view from our room on the 8th floor in the newest building. We enjoyed the Kaiseki in room dinner which was optional but you have to experience it if you can. The location to both the main area of Gero and the train station was perfect. We enjoyed the impeccable service and feel of the more traditional hotel, almost a Ryokan feel to it. The onsen water was awesome.

The hotel was a large property, as such you have to expect a lot more people in the hotel than those of the smaller ones in Gero.

Very comfortable onsen hotel. Has 3 sets of onsens and a sauna. Situated right near the train station and next to a stunning river. Breakfast buffet was excellent. We ate at the cafe but it was late in the afternoon. Wasn't a huge choice for meals but the food we received was delicious. The whole place is very peaceful and very efficient.

The onsen floors were slippery and there were signs to this effect. I am sure a few solid mats could have prevented the risk of falling on these floors. The towels were pretty thin.

everything was perfect about the hotel. the staff were always helpful & friendly. communication is not a problem as they have many english-speaking staff. there was a good selection of public baths within the hotel. location is great, just 3 mins walk from Gero station & a shuttle bus runs between the station & the hotel. no booking is required but take notes of the timings for the shuttle. the buffet breakfast had a selection of both Japanese & Western food choices. would definitely stay here again. easily accessible to the various attractions around the town.

the pillows were very soft and we would have preferred to have at least 2 pillows per person. we did ask for an extra pillow but due to language barrier, we were not given.

There is virtually nothing to dislike about Suimeikan. Every aspect of the stay was exceptional. Gero Onsen is the perfect wind down to a long trip through Japan, and it's made all the better at Suimeikan. From check-in, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The man who guided us to our room was unbelievably kind and genuine, as were the receptionists. The English level of all the staff I encountered was immaculate, making all aspects of the stay succinct and efficient. The facilities are amazing, nothing beats an onsen, and this place has three. All providing a unique take on the concept, with a panoramic view on the top of the middle building, an outdoor bath, and a full great bath with two hot baths a cold pool and a sauna, you won't find a bath that doesn't please. The on-site restaurants are utterly divine, providing some of the best food I've had the pleasure of eating in Japan. The rooms are stunning and clean, with beautiful smelling tatami and lovely bathrooms you won't have an uncomfortable time here. All in all, Suimeikan is a truly stunning place to spend a night or more in Gero, I can wholeheartedly recommend! So what are you waiting for? Get booking!

Suimeikan was a comfortable stay halfway through our trip to get away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities and enjoy a quiet onsen town. The room was comfortable for 3 people. I particularly liked the tatami mat floor with the futon and the low table. However, I would have liked that area to have the sliding doors close off entirely to have more privacy. I loved that they gave us little snacks every day that they offered at their gift shop downstairs. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a man able to speak English well to answer questions. The buffet breakfast had a Japanese section and a Western section. We stayed for 2 nights and the breakfast spread was basically the same thing. Would have liked to have some variety. I definitely recommend getting a kaiseki meal at Kita no ryo. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. It was one of our favourite meals in Japan. The flavours were unique and we were so full afterward from it too. We also loved that we had our own private room too. The onsens were great too. With 3 different onsens on site we actually didn't even use our hotel shower once. They were meticulously cleaned and never too busy despite the hotel capacity. We loved that we were able to walk around in our yukatas whenever too. The building itself had really nice gardens/ponds and picturesque areas to take good photos. They also had shuttle buses to and from the station. Though the walk is literally like across the road. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk. When we arrived we saw a man with the Suimeikan sign but we weren't sure if they were meant for us so we just walked. Overall, definitely a recommended stay! Comfortable and not overly priced.

The building itself is a little bit old and the carpets can feel a little musty. But the place seem well cleaned so it wasn't really an issue. Also, if you stayed there for more than 2 nights and had the buffet breakfast, it can get a bit boring. On our second night we didn't book a meal at the hotel and tried to walk around town to eat but many places were closed so we had to settle for a meal that was just okay outside of the hotel as it seemed like the hotel's restaurants were fully booked.
