Such a wonderful traditional ryokan to stay in - highly recommend experiencing Kyoto this way. The place is traditional and has a homely touch, rather than a hotel feel. The owner was very kind and always available, and the house cat is adorable! Rooms and bathroom facilities are very clean and well maintained, and you are provided with slippers, traditional robes, towels, toiletries, etc. It is a small ryokan, with only a few rooms, so we never felt we had to wait to use the bathrooms. Located right next to Kyoto Station so its very convenient. No complaints from us!

This ryokan has a warm, homey feel—like stepping into a quieter, more traditional Japan. It’s not flashy or commercialized, just honest hospitality with thoughtful touches. The tatami rooms, peaceful setting, and kind staff made it feel like a genuine cultural experience. A perfect place to slow down and soak in real Japanese tradition. We were able to leave our luggage and explore Kyoto for the day. The kind lady who runs the ryokan even canceled her cat’s appointment just to make sure she’d be there when we came back to pick up our bags. We ended up getting on the wrong bus and were an hour late, but she was so understanding about it. Truly next-level hospitality!

The location was reasonably close to Kyoto station and some shopping centers. Despite this, the area was very quiet at night. Since all guests were asked to come home by the curfew and not use certain amenities past a certain time, my friend and I had no trouble sleeping through the night. The staff were very polite and helped me and my friend with shipping and receiving our luggage. Our room was clean and spacious. We had never stayed in a ryokan, so the host was kind enough to explain to us how to wear yukata and use the traditional Japanese bath. We also had the option of a modern shower.

We had the most incredible stay at Fujiya Ryokan. Our host was exceptional, upon arrival she assisted us with an issue that had nothing to do with our stay (luggage transport) and was happy to be of help and contact people we needed to call and assist with translation. We also adored the house cat Didi, she was so friendly and loved pats. The room was so clean and our sleep was so restful each night. The shared amenities were kept immaculate each time we used them, and the Japanese bath was so lovely to relax in each evening. The location was also perfect. Would recommend going to the local underground food court area Kyoto Sando for delicious food and less than a 5 min walk away. Thanks again for having us, we will definitely be back when in Kyoto again 😊

I recently stayed at Fujiya Ryokan in Kyoto and had a wonderful experience. The ryokan’s location, just a short walk from Kyoto Station, was perfect, especially since I was only in Kyoto for a few days. It made arriving and departing with luggage incredibly convenient, which is a big plus if you’re traveling by train. The ryokan itself is charming and exceptionally well-maintained, with a traditional Showa-era ambiance that made the experience feel authentically Japanese. Every corner of the property was spotless, and fresh linens and towels were provided daily, which added a nice touch of comfort. In the evenings, the owner or staff would prepare an “ofuro” (Japanese bath), which was an absolute treat to come back to after a long day of exploring the city. There’s nothing like soaking in a warm bath to unwind before bedtime. With only 5-6 rooms in the guesthouse, the atmosphere felt very peaceful and personal, offering a more intimate experience than larger hotels. It’s also great value for money considering the location, cleanliness, and amenities. I appreciated the small TV in the room, which gave me a chance to relax and watch some local programming in the evenings after a full day out. Overall, Fujiya Ryokan is a fantastic choice for travelers who want a convenient, comfortable, and traditional stay close to Kyoto Station. Highly recommended, especially if you’re in Kyoto for a shorter visit!

The location of the area was superb, is around 5 mins walking distance to the central Kyoto station, nearby has two konbinis to get your necessities. The owner was kind, explaining for the travellers about the room and amenities provided. The room is clean and tidy, futon was very comfortable imo, bathroom was very clean (is a shared bathroom). Also the cat was so cute (I forgot to ask the cat's name TT).

The stay imposes curfew, but you can always let owner know beforehand that you will be returning late.

I was only here for 1 day but I wish I could have spent at least a week. From the traditional feeling of the room to the close vicinity of the convenience stores. Everything and I mean everything was amazing the highlight was definitely didi (not sure if I spelt that right) The cat that resides there, never have I met a more relaxed cat that loves pats and scratches. I would 100% recommend to anyone and everyone. I will definitely be coming back

A wonderful location, about 5-7 minute walk from the Kyoto station and it was easy to find. The hostess was very kind and accommodating. The Ryokan was beautiful, clean and homey. We were very fortunate to stay at a Ryokan while we were visiting Japan and I would highly recommend to anyone to stay here. The bath was so relaxing and much needed after the amount of walking we did around the city. We were lucky enough to see Lilly the morning we were leaving, she's so cute!

The only thing I didn't like is the road that our room faced was very noisy. My husband didn't notice at all and slept very soundly whereas I kept waking up due to the noise. That all to be said, I would still highly recommend staying here.

Within walking distance from the main station which was super convenient. I found the property very clean and the futon and bedding very comfortable. A special thanks to the host who helped us find the glasses we left behind!

I did not notice when I booked that the toilets and shower are shared. However, everything was very clean and it hasn’t been an issue

The host was very friendly and accommodating, she made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed the experience of the traditional ryokan. Everything was spotless. The bath was excellent, too. The assistant cat, Lily is very friendly and always greeting guests at the door. The room was a very good size for two people, and the futons were very comfortable. We enjoyed our daily traditional Japanese snacks, which we found on our tea table upon our return in the evening. The location is also very convenient, 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Looking forward to coming back soon!
