If you’re in room E you do have the short straw as it’s next to the comunal area and also facing the train tracks. The first night, there was quite a bit of noise from the communal area late on (there were no signs to say to be quiet from a certain time). I mentioned this the next day to the front desk to see if we could move rooms, and they were so helpful. There were no rooms we could move to, but they said that after 11pm it should be quiet in the communal area upstairs (there is also a communal area on the ground floor not near rooms also), and after this we were able to sleep fine. The boss was also keen to make sure we could sleep ok.

I arrived when it was dark and the lights were not very bright so I went too far and had to turn back. The first impression was probably the owner greeted me in Vietnamese and told me that he had been to many big cities in Vietnam. Then the receptionist was very cute. After that I was guided to the room, the kitchen. Because I was so tired, I fell asleep right away. The sleeping area was quite spacious and clean. There were curtains for privacy. At night you can comfortably snore with your roommate. It's like a band :lol:.

The only thing I don't like is probably the location of the motel near the train station so it's easy to hear the sound of trains running at night. Maybe it's a bit difficult for those who have trouble sleeping.

I recently stayed at Guest House Kyoto Inn for a short visit, and it was a delightful experience. The location is fantastic, situated in a quiet neighborhood yet conveniently close to public transportation and popular attractions. The rooms are cozy and impeccably clean, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment. The staff at Kyoto Inn are exceptionally friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any inquiries or travel tips. The traditional Japanese decor adds a charming touch, making the stay feel authentically local. Moreover, the communal areas, including the kitchen and lounge, are well-maintained and create a welcoming atmosphere for meeting other travelers.

The owner Essan is super friendly and has experience living in Japan for 35 years, he will go out of his way to help you plan your trip and give you guidance with what to do. He is also very easy to talk with and approachable. The location is perfect, you're out of the way from the chaos of downtown and a 3 minute walk from the train station, a 711, and 5-7 minutes from the different bus stations. Getting around Kyoto is super easy from here. The beds are comfortable and even me at 6'3 (190cm) was able to sleep comfortably, something I've had an issue with in the past with beds in Japan.

The guesthouse was nice and tidy and a convenience store was quite close in case I needed to get anything to eat. The location is in a good spot since there is a train station nearby. The owner was friendly as well and the kitchen upstairs had tea and coffee which I found to be a nice touch. I liked that there were curtains on the beds so you can close yourself in and get a little more privacy from the other occupants of the room

I stayed in an all-female room since I was travelling alone and wanted to feel safe but there was no way to lock the room. There was a lock on the door from the inside but I couldn't lock it in case another guest arrived and you don't get a key to unlock it from the outside. It might be because I am a foreigner and this may be normal in Japan but it was difficult for me to sleep, knowing that anyone could walk in

The location isn’t ideal for nightlife - if this is important stay near the main station. There’s a ramen place nearby that’s really good but most stuff will close early so plan for that. Could organize more social events possibly, but spontaneously it’s nice. I only list this because the staff are so great.

A great hostel in the centre of Kyoto. Very friendly staff and good facilities. Very clean. A small kitchen but has what you need for cooking. It also has a rooftop area which is great to hang out in the warm evenings and look over the city. Very handy to the train station and bus stops to get to tourist places around the city. Typical small dorms for a hostel and can be a bit loud with people coming and going but very standard for what you're paying. Good value!!! I can confirm the beds can fit a tall human. Will definitely stay again.

Not much space for bags when the dorm rooms are full.

This was the first place I stayed on my first ever trip to Japan! The owner and staff were really wonderful! I had some nice conversations with them and really felt at ease here. Oh, and one of the staff shared her no-bake cheesecake with me! (A real winner! 😊) The location right near the train stain was really convenient! Umbrellas free for guests to borrow👍👍 The common areas were very conducive to meet people! I had some very nice conversations with guests and staff here. The place was clean and well-kept.

Nothing major. Only thing I can think of is the pillow was too thin for me, so I put some clothes underneath it to make it thicker.

Excellent location just one stop away from Kyoto station, local buses go everywhere, 7 Eleven just 1 minute walk, great terrace with views to the mountains which offer great sun rise and sunset views, late check in is possible, very friendly and helpful staff, clean comfortable, quite dorms, good for socialising and meeting new people good kitchen and common areas. Would stay here again and would recommend to anyone

Great location, nice and helpful staff, clean room and washrooms, kitchen with space (even if I didn’t use it). And the other travellers were friendly and happy to chat which was nice because it’s not always the case in Japan. Overall, a really nice atmosphere and a great hostel! I was here only 1 night but would have love to stay longer!

More like observations: you can hang your stuff in the showers, which is great, would be even better to also have a place to lay the things that can’t be hang? Bed a bit small if you’re tall but confortable enough!
