Staff professional, courteous, friendly and excellent. Room clean, comfortable and very spacious! The Japanese breakfast was tasty and a unique experienxe! Location was quiet and obscure— exactly the relaxing break I was looking forward to during my trip.

The outdoor onsen experience was ruined for me due to it being located right next door the smoking section. The smell of cigarettes would waft into the area as I am trying to relax and enjoy the private outdoor onsen. This happened both night and day. 2 men were also drinking and being very loud, having to cut my outdoor soaking time short. Very disappointing. If the smoking area could somehow be relocated as to not interfere with other guests rooms that would be my only suggestion of improvement.

The bath that fills itself, always surprising breakfast, lots of things to use in the bath e.g., hair and skin care, huge space, room cleaning, privacy, teas and coffee

We thought we ordered a room with open air bath, and we were dreaming about it for half a year. We were disappointed that we did not have that bath. We were offered a potential upgrade at extra cost which we refused. I wish it was more explicitly said that our room does not have the open air bath. Because of that, we could not be happy with the room immediately - it took us two days to accept the reality

The room is HUGE. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and TWO baths. One inside and one outside. You can slide open the wall between so you and your partner can both enjoy a bath inside and outside. It felt great staying here and was truly a luxurious experience.

It was quite expensive. The main issue with the place is that it's really far from the tourist locations. The only one that's close is Kinkakuji. You also can't really take a simple train or bus ride to the station, you need to take a bus ride to a nearby station and then take the train. We just took a taxi each time we wanted to go somewhere as public transport was just too much of a hassle.

Excellent modern design with high quality technology amenities and bathroom facilities were top notch.

Only shortfalls were the very low coffee table which was extremely hard for elderly customers to bend down and get up from. Could use a microwave as affordable eateries were limited in the neighborhood. Staff was extremely polite and limited with their English but some were inexperienced with helping us navigate the relatively non-English transportation Kyoto environment. We caught taxi daily to explore as the location was in a remote but quiet neighborhood. Nice but remote.

Oku is the ultimate essence of Japanese-style relaxation—exactly what you need after a long day of walking around Tokyo. Located in the city's oldest geisha district, near the renowned Tenmangu Shrine with its stunning cherry blossom garden, Oku offers a truly immersive experience of Japanese hospitality. From the ryokan-style rooms and traditional breakfast to the incredible comfort of a private en-suite bathroom with both a bathtub and shower, every detail is designed for relaxation, all while maintaining the signature technological convenience of Japan. One of the most remarkable aspects is the abundance of high-end amenities in the room, rivaling those of a five-star luxury hotel. The staff is highly efficient yet discreet, ensuring maximum privacy. The hotel's services are well thought out, with the added bonus of a complimentary minibar and a free drink per guest at the stylish bar on the ground floor. Honestly, we often found ourselves debating whether to go out and explore Tokyo or simply stay in and enjoy the comfort of our room! And one last highlight—for those who love to explore and immerse themselves in the local culture, just take a short stroll around the area to find an authentic restaurant and enjoy a truly genuine experience!

The bedding was luxurios and the room was spacious. The staff were very helpful. The inside bath was very deep and therefore so comfortable.

After using the outside bath the first night my partner was bitten all over and sadly we could not use it again for fear of being itchy our whole stay. This however is no fault of the hotels, but a heads up to those travelling to the area. It was a peaceful area but not central to Kyoto (20mins in a taxi)

The breakfast was very good. Exactly what I was expecting from a Ryokan. The choice of times for service in the room was good, and provided a lot of flexibility. The staff were fantastic. Very accommodating with our requests.

It was clear that this was an old building, and this was evident in the smell. It might have been a good idea to provide some fresher for the room, incense or plug in to address this. The lack of windows was an unknown until we arrived which also removed from the comfort slightly.

Peacefully, calm, relaxing Kamishichiken neighborhood providing much an appreciated respite from the tourist crowds of other areas of Kyoto. Small and cozy family-run restaurants and tea houses along the street. The Kinkaku-ji temple (with the iconic golden pagoda) less than a mile on foot. The Kitano Tenmangu shrine just at the end of the street. Spacious room. Very comfortable bed and soft duvet. Large, luxurious bathroom with private jacuzzi. Extremely clean. Wonderful staff. Good coin laundromat nearby. Easily connected to the rest of the city by multiple bus lines. Highly recommended.

The bed was extremely comfortable, the bath was stunning! Staff were lovey on check in and check out.

The room was insanely expensive. We justified it for the experience, however $800 CAD without being able to add on breakfast or offer food to us was surprising (no room service aside from beverages). We wanted a peaceful night in to enjoy the room but aren’t allowed to order food/bring food in and it was too late to order anything by our check in time.. this doesn’t make much sense to me. Comparable rooms at this rate do offer this service. Regardless we had a great time and appreciated the staff on site. I wouldn’t join again.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The suite was spacious and well equipped with all that I needed. The free drinks were most welcome. The outdoor tub in a beautiful garden setting was a sight to behold. The big highlight though was the breakfast. The traditional vegan breakfast they served was amazing, both in presentation and taste.

I had expected a more traditional place where I could learn a bit more about Japanese customs. That was not to be.
