Nice and warm atmosphere hostel, I’ve booked for 4 days at first and end up staying for almost a month, the owner have different option for different type of travellers, dorms , single room , double rooms and also a traditional wooden house in a forest you can find everyone of them on the name Hooju. I’ve been in the dorms , the atmosphere is amazing , you can meet a lot of surfers and travellers from all around the world, the location is just 2 minutes walking from the surf spot and you can also rent wetsuits, board and bike here. Every day the kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom was cleaned by the stuff. The wifi is fast! And the owner is soo friendly and he will help you with your experience , there’s also always some of the stuff employees around the place so you can ask easily to them everything you need. Oh I forgot to say , this hostel is the cheapest I’ve ever found in Japan and for what it offers I really recommend it!

This hostel is super international and you can meet a lot of young back packers and exchange the information about next destinations. Also many back packers came here to stay just several days but they extend their stay because this town is calm and good for surfing and chill. I made a couple of friends here from European countries and exchanged contact for someday we meet up in some other places like south East Asian countries or in their home countries. It was a good experience for me and can’t wait to come back here to meet them again and go surfing!!

Don't hesitate to book this hostel. It is 2 min walking from the perfect beach and the beautiful island of Aoshima. The house has a typical Japanese style. The host is a very relaxed Japanese peron who would always help with anything you need. Volunteers and guests are also very nice people. Everyone in this surf town is super chill.

The door to the dorm is a bit loud and doesn't cancel the noise in case people are talking loud in the kitchen.

My partner and I stayed at Hooju for around a month and had a fantastic time. The staff at the hostel were super nice and accommodating. Quiet, relaxing stay, with the pleasure of meeting some nice travellers. Aoshima is a beautiful place with fun surf - I hope to be back again some day! Thanks everyone at Hooju for an awesome time!

The guest house was very close to the main attraction of this area, Aoshima Shrine, as well as the beach and the train station. I liked that it was very clean and it was equipped with a coin washing/drying machine. The beds were okay, could have been better and it is to be expected when staying with other people, bring earplugs. Each bed was equipped with a lamp and an outlet which is so convenient. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay there and it was so worth it for the price. Since the conbini is a bit far, I appreciated that the staff stocked the fridge with drinks.

The beds could be a little softer and the door hinges need to be oiled because the door was squeaking so much it was hard to sleep that first night with everyone going to the bathroom.

The park on the Ocean side is very well taken care of it seems like a Royal garden almost out of place in such a small town

The hotel staff told me to go to a restaurant that was closed at the time23:00 however I found an amazing ramen shop and had some of the best pork ramen I've had in Japan for only ¥700 yen. Oh and the Wi-Fi didn't work properly.

Location and the ambience of the house are two very strong points! The host is kind, funny and very helpful. They gave us a guidebook on all the attractions, onsens, places to eat etc that they personally made. Really cool!

Some things, like the sink area, were a bit dirty or dusty

The location is great! If you want to be close to the city then this location wouldn't really work but because we were more interested in seeing sights around the coast this was great for us. It's in a really good location with some nice restaurants nearby. It's close to the Devil's Washboard and nice local shrine. The place met our needs and the vibe was really good!

When we arrived we had almost the whole property to ourselves as only one other guest was there. This was great. However, with only one bathroom and shower I wonder how it would work at full capacity. Also, the house was very creaky. It wasn't a big problem (and I actually found it charming) however, I can see it being an issue if you are a light sleeper.

1) Location. near Aoshima Shrine, Beach and Surfing 2) Very friendly and understanding host. Bcos we are a family of four, arranged a room with only 4 single beds instead of bunk beds in the dorm. 3) No issue for parking, free parking. 4) Strong wifi

1) Not sound proof on the level 1 room. just next to the reception. could hear people speaking even when they were outside the guesthouse.

Good location: near the Aoshima train station and beach. Can access to Aoshima shirine conveniently. Clean room: room is so clean and nice. The bed is prepared. There's a kitchen in the house. Friendly host: The host is really nice and patient, trying to explain everything I can do in Aoshima.
