Best food on our trip - the host catered two delicious veggie meals for us with an amazing variety of japanese food in a beautiful tatami room. Still dreaming of it! The private onsen was a blast and our tatami room had cute chairs, traditional clothing to wear in the guesthouse and comfortable futons. They picked us up at the train station and drove us directly to the monkey park. Getting back from there by bus was easy. We were also driven to the train station next morning.

We had a 10-course meal our first night. Our host treated us the way that you remember your grandma taking care of you. We had so much food! Prepared by the husband and wife. Breakfast was included and completely ample. Our rooms were classic Japanese ryokan style. We had twin futons on the floor and duvets. Large enough that there was room for a coffee table, arm chair, sofa and foot stool. The private toilet was immediately outside our room. The private onsen on the premises was great. We were able to bathe there each evening. We chose this location because it was not in Nagano proper and it was close to Obuse, where the Hokusai Museum is located (and to snow monkeys, of course). Parking was easy as we had a rental car and there is a 7-11 next door where we could get supplementals - including instant smoothies..
The location in Yamanochi is a bit out of the way. Yamanochi in the gateway town closest to the snow monkeys. We could still go for a nice walk in the evening in town after our dinner. Location is ideal if you have a vehicle, but we observed that the husband would pick clients up at the train station in town, about 1 km away. Don't let that be a reason to not visit here and have an authentic experience.

We loved our stay here. Our hosts were delightful people who readily attended to our requests and questions. Communication before and during our stay was great - despite the language barrier we all managed to understand each other! The dinner was magnificent - what a spread - a special treat not to be missed. Breakfast, likewise. Our hosts picked out bags up from the station so that we could wander the town and walk to their Ryokan and then they took us to the station when we left Yudanaka. They drove us up to The Monkey Park on day 2. All of that taxiing was very much appreciated. They lent us ski poles and umbrellas for the walk to the Monkey Park. The path is flat ( stairs at the beginning and end) but can be slippery in the snow and/or mud - take care! The room was spacious with everything we needed. The onsen was very enjoyable and the privacy system much appreciated. The bed (futon) was comfortable and we slept well - the area is very quiet. Next door is a seven11 - buy something to heat up in the microwave in the ryokan's tea-to room. All in all, a perfect stay with the most generous and gracious hospitality ever.

This was our favourite accommodation in Japan! Great communication in the lead up to our stay, including help with transport to see the snow monkeys. On arrival at the property, our host was gracious and delightful. We opted for the 10 course meal - all cooked by our hostess, and all delicious. Likewise the breakfast the next morning. The steaming onsen was perfect after a cold walk in the mountains (great massage chair too). I felt like I was in Spirited Away. At risk of making this sound like a bot (I swear it’s my real human review), after staying here and seeing the monkeys, I felt more relaxed than I have in years. Please stay here, give this family your business, as they absolutely deserve it

The owner and staff were amazing, they did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. They even picked us up from the train station and dropped us back at the end of our trip, as well as offering to drive us to the snow monkeys early one morning so we could beat the crowds and not have to take the public bus. The onsite onsen is lovely! Guests can use it privately (including couples) most hours of the day. This was a huge bonus for us coming home from the cold weather to enjoy the onsen each evening. They also had a 10 course dinner available, which we would highly recommend!! It was farm or food than either of us could eat, and they even provided a full 10 course vegetarian meal for myself (the first time I’ve eaten so well since arriving in Japan 🥰), and also a seafood-free meal for my husband. We would highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.

We really liked Yudanaka Yasuragi. The owners did everything to make us feel comfortable—they picked us up from the train station, drove us to the monkey park the next day, and were generally very kind and eager to help. The food was amazing—you really can't miss the dinner they serve there; it was one of the best we had in Japan. The onsen is fantastic, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. You should definitely visit this place!
We didn't have a toilet in our room (which we were aware of), but the shared toilets were a bit small and very cold. If possible, try to book a room with a private toilet.

Absolutely amazing in every way. I have never felt so relaxed and at ease anywhere like this before. The owners are so lovely and cannot help you enough. They picked us up from the station, made us dinner, showed us round the onsens and offered breakfast. The traditional onsens were lovely and the private use is a brilliant idea especially for anyone a little shy! On top of this they drove us up to the monkey park nice and early to beat the crowds and even offered to meet us back at the station with our bags after the monkey park. I wish I had more time in Japan as I would have changed my itinerary to stay another 1 or 2 nights. Definitely the best place I have stayed in Japan! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful place.

We loved our stay at this lovely, traditional ryokan. With tatami mats, futons, gorgeous yukata and toe socks to wear, on site onsen, made private by a clever noren (curtain) system, delicious set dinner (so many courses!) and in house breakfast, we couldn't have asked for more. Our lovely hostess picked us up at the station, dropped us at the snow monkeys and gave very clear instructions how to get back by the local bus. Later she suggested a practical way to get to our next destination (google maps you failed) and booked the taxi for us as well. Offering traditional hospitality, this lovely couple made us feel we had experienced a slice of old Japan. Highly recommended, arigato gozimus

This place is beautiful. The owners are so helpful and friendly and really give you a true insight into life as a local. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and kept warm. The location is great, just a short walk to restaurants and the local brewery. The owners drove me and my friend to the Monkey Park and the train station, even in the heavy snow. The breakfast is delicious and the dinner they offer is a MUST!! The onsen is the perfect way to warm up and relax after a day exploring and they have all the amenities you need. The owners cannot do enough for you and really want you to have the best experience with them. I completely recommend this place to stay.

I highly recommend this accommodation. This is one of the best places I have ever stayed, and I was truly impressed. At first, I was concerned about using a shared bathroom, but when I arrived, I found that it was an onsen-style facility—clean and well-organized. The traditional breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious. Moreover, the entire place was exceptionally clean. The elderly couple who manage the accommodation were very kind and attentive to their guests. If you're still deciding, I highly recommend booking this place. You're guaranteed to have a special time here!
