It was a nice hotel right by Bandai Bridge. The room was big, we had a great view, and the staff were polite. I usually stay at the Silver Bandai Hotel but the price had gone up for some reason. This was a good alternative. Parking (underground or right across from the entrance) was convenient and easily located.

I made a mistake by booking smoking instead of non-smoking, and when I asked to change this they added on a charge as well as charging me 1750 yen for my daughter's breakfast, which I believed was included in the booking. I was a little disappointed by this (compare to the hotel I stayed in in Aizu the following night where I'd also made the same mistake and they changed the room free of charge). I understand that hotels can be completely inflexible when you ask for anything on the desk, and this was my error, but whatever. I also stayed for two nights at either end of a four-day trip and while the first night I had no problem, the second night I couldn't get the wi-fi to work on my computer.

Splendid breakfast. How often do you have your Japanese omelette prepared by the hotel executive chef. Do stay for dinner in their Japanese restaurant, exceptional food, service and value. Hotel does a lot of banquet business in Niigata, I think that’s why they have a strong f&b team. After trying their dinner offerings we went back again and tried other menu options and we weren’t disappointed.

Yes, the hotel can use some upgrades; the property has good bones, spacious, clean, good service and views of the river, this more than makes up the short coming.

It was like staying in a fancy 80s hotel at a backpackers price! The concierge walked me to the check-in and a porter carried my bags to the room, quite amazing for 5000-ish yen a night. The room was much bigger than in a modern hotel, it had proper timber furniture and there was a real bathroom with tiles and marble. The lobby is quite dazzling. It is a ten-minute walk to downtown with a peaceful path along the river in the other direction. I would go back in a heartbeat, I could even imagine living there!

The on-site food and beverage offerings are expensive but this is to be expected given the Okura's reputation as a luxury hotel. Being Japan, there is plenty of choice nearby though.

Location is a bit far from Niigata station, but it's ok for a short walk. The staff at the hotel are some of the best I have seen in all Japan and what makes this hotel great. Breakfast was also very nice and with quite a few options, the people working at breakfast service are really nice. Would stay again only for how the staff treated us and how nice the breakfast was.

The hotel is a bit old and the rooms reflect that but in the end it was not that bad. There are a lot of events hosted at the hotel so it can be really crowded sometimes.

Great views of the bridge and river from the 11th floor. Near jogging/walking path along the river. The staff were amazing, there were so many people ready to serve you with a gracious attitude. The elevators were fast. The housekeeping was top notch. The breakfast buffet was wonderful - something for everyone. Fruit and yogurt bar was our favorite. You could order an omelette and there was even French toast along with many Japanese favorites.

No coin laundry. Some of the restaurants were closed during the week.

Very comfortable to stay, location is fantastic and single room had enough big, not like a small business hotel in Tokyo. Stuff were very nice and always try to support guests.

I don’t complain but I expected some „ insider tips „ for sightseeing but they just tried to figure out through google, which I could do by myself. I wish such a traditional good hotel should have proper “concierge”, but my expectations were maybe too much…

An excellent breakfast with a wide variety of options that would easily satisfy any palette. Great salad and meat options as well as the curry and fish options. I really enjoyed the breakfast. While the hotel is a bit dated in its design, it has an old grand luxury feeling to it and the staff were very polite and friendly; you could tell they really took pride in their hotel. I felt like I was at a 5 star hotel with the level of service provided. It has a wonderful feel and the rooms felt comfortable.

A very minor gripe but the water temperature in my room was a bit erratic. Every minute or two the water would go from hot to super hot. A slight nuisance.

The breakfast is excellent. Not only they have an excellent variety including both Japanese and Western, the quality of the food is amazing. The service is brilliant. The Okura is traditionally known as one of the best hotels in Japan and they try their best to keep their reputation. The location is also very convenient.

The building itself is rather old-looking, however, I don’t necessarily think it is a bad thing as their facilities are great.

The hotel is located on a river site. The view from the window is very beautiful. Although this is one of the most prestigious hotels in Japan, the price was very reasonable. The hotel staff is well trained and treated us very comfortably and professionally. I strongly recommend you choose this hotel when you stay in Niigata.

Everything was amazing. The room was comfortable and relaxing, and the hotel was so much more lovely than I was expecting for the price! The staff were kind and accommodating, offering us an umbrella on a rainy day when we forgot ours and helping us to organise a taxi when we were leaving. I am extremely happy with this hotel and would book again
