What a pleasant stay! To be honest, I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting but it definitely exceeded my expectations. I purchased the Nikko 4 day Free Pass, and I took the train to Tobu World Square and walked 10 minutes to get to this guest house. The rooms were spacious, and the common area was nice! Very nice view of the mountain and a big kitchen with 3 stove tops so many people can cook at once. Oh.. and did I mention the onsen was very good as well. It is very foreigner friendly, and the staff were kind to help me with train directions. You can also meet other backpackers around the world and they are fun to talk to as well :)

I liked the cleanliness as well as the modern feel. I liked the kitchen a lot! In the whole three weeks staying in Japan this was the only place that I cooked myself a meal. The lounge is also very conducive to meet other travelers which is nice if you are traveling solo like I was.
I guess if anything it would be that the onsen is only open in the evening.

Wonderful stay, facilities were clean and the Onsen was exceptional with outdoor and indoor options. 10mins walk to the nearest grocery shops, and located in a quiet small town. Note travelling to the main tourist sites in Nikko may take up to an hour via public transport.

The hostel is amazing. It's clean, comfortable, quiet and has amazing facilities. The kitchen is huge with all the appliances and things you need for cooking. Also, there's coffee and tea available for free. The communal area is great, peaceful and I loved the playlist. The onsen was my favorite part. It's clean, bight and beautiful. Also, I am often prohibited to use onsen in Japan because of my tattoos and being able to soak in the warm water after a long this was perfect. The outdoor onsen is a must!
I don't really have a complain, but if I would pick something it would be the sticky entrance because of the smelly shoes. But it isn't the hotel fault... :)

If it wasn't for the location, this place would be the perfect 10! Immaculately clean, like new facilities, the reception staff are really friendly and helpful. It is their lovely welcome that spreads throughout the whole hostel, making it a very nice and welcoming place to relax. The 8 person mixed dorms had a table and chairs in the middle, a sink and an ensuite toilet. The shower facilities are perfect and the Onsen on site is really clean. One of the best places we have ever stayed. There is a large supermarket 5 min walk away. It is located midway between 2 train stations (same line), with approx a 5-7 mins walk
It's a real shame that it is located so far from the attractions, for example Lake Chuzenji. It requires 2 trains to get to Tobu Nikko Station and about 35 mins. Making any hiking trip in the area a very long day. There is a 2 hour hike you can do from the hostel alongside a beautiful gorge. Personally I would still stay here a couple of nights and walk the gorge on the day in-between and the Onsen in the evenings

I had a wonderful 2 nights stay at K House Nikko hostel in a 8 beds room. The hostel location is situated on top of a river valley facing the mountains, simply beautiful. The "mountain cabin" resort style renovation is very nice. Large and comfortable common lounge areas to relax and enjoy your meals including outdoor veranda areas to enjoy the scenery. There is big well equipped common kitchen for use. The room is well equipped and everything is new and nice. Very nice external onsen facing the hill and another onsen enclosed. Location is about 11 minutes walk from Tobu World Square Station and 14 minutes walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. There is a large well stocked supermarket (Lion Dor) nearby., only short walk 6 minutes walk. The hostel is a well managed place and the staff are very nice, responsive and helpful.

K's House is the best place to relax, especially if you need a break [from the big city]. It is beautifully situated in nature and there is so much space - in the dorm, in the common area or in the kitchen - I love it. The other guests were very pleasant, the vibe was good and the dorm was quiet at night. The onsen (separate for men and women) has an indoor and outdoor area. It was very relaxing to sit outside, especially in the rain. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, the check-in was smooth, everything was easy to understand and there was an information board about the tourist highlights in the area, which was very helpful. I thought the location was great, right on the Kinugawa River and within walking distance of both the supermarket and 7-Eleven, but beware: it's not right in the historic part of Nikko that many people initially think of.
The beds don't have curtains - that would have been nice for a bit more privacy.

The best, coziest social hostel I've been to in Japan. It seems it attracts certain kind of backpackers who appreciate the peace and quiet and the communal aspect. The hostel has a perfect kitchen and common space. The outside Onsen was such a treat! It's great when it's cold outside so you can spend a long time enjoying it without overheating. Also, this was possibly the cleanest place I've ever stayed at. The staff really works hard to make sure of that. The laundry works perfectly and efficiently and they let you do it for free if you book 3 nights I ended up extending my stay to 6 nights so I could really relax a little bit after a hectic month traveling in Japan. Enjoyed every moment and would definitely stay longer if I could!
Even though I loved it, there are some cons: 1. Having "Nikko" in the name is false advertising, to be fair, since the hostel is in a different village and getting to Nikko from is not easy!! 2. There is one toilet/sink inside the dorm which makes unreasonable amount of noise and I think using it should be banned between 00:00-08:00. However the only female toilets are one floor down. Also, the female toilet next to the Onsen in -1 was out of order (hasn't been fixed the whole time I was there) which was a bit of a pain. 3. The beds are just regular bunk beds, not capsules. So not much privacy and beds were creaking

Friendly staff, especially Maria who was always on hand to help. Clean, comfortable bunk beds with plenty of usb sockets and individual lights on each bunk. Having an Onsen on site is worth paying the higher price compared to other hostels in the area. The lounge area has a lovely feel with large windows and soft music playing throughout the day. Highly recommended, I would stay again.
No female-only dorm so my last night was ruined by a guy snoring as if the earth were ending! Bit of a trek into Nikko so plan ahead with train/bus connections to avoid a long wait at the connecting station.

It's beautiful! The rooms overlook the woods and river. The kitchen is clean and bright and large and has everything you need. I cooked the first meals of 2 months of my travel here (grocery just around the corner) and enjoyed the company in the kitchen. The common area is large with comfortable couches and plenty of seating to eat and lounge. It also has a beautiful view. It's just a short walk from the train station and the staff spoke English and were all so kind and helpful. My bed was comfy with a big down comforter and the onsen is incredible. The outdoor onsen overlooks the woods and river as well and I saw flying squirrels both nights. I've stayed at many hostels in Japan and this one is my favorite by far. I highly recommend!!
Nothing! Everything was wonderful.
