Excellent place for budget-minded diy-traveller. We rented a car for a week to drive around the surrounding areas and towns, and returned to our "home-base" after each day. There was a free parking area provided by the facility. The room was really large and spacious, with a bit of a retro feel to it. This is what it must feel like to go to stay at your japanese countryside granpa's place, I think. Tatami floors and futon beds.
we came to kinugawa because of the onsens, but sadly it seems like almost all of them are inside the numerous luxury ryoukan-hotels that surround the river-gorge and only for the specific hotel's own quests to use. Our backpack-travellers motel did not have large common baths, only normal shower and bathtub in the room. Since we did have a rental car, we mostly drove away from kinugawa to nikko etc. areas and googled public baths en route and bathed in different ones almost every day on our way back to kinugawa after the days excursions.

Check-in with a super nice Japanese grandpa was unforgettable experience. He used tables to translate everything into English for me. Very kind and helpful. The place was close to the train station, Lawson, and was clean. Considering reasonable price and the spacious room, it was a great experience! If you look for a super moder place, you will need to pay more. This place was rather traditional, yet clean, and confortable.
I came in winter and the building was rather cold as there were no or not many other tourists. The double blanket served its purpose 🙂

The room was very clean and big. The futons and bedding are very comfortable. It was nice experience to stay in Japanese style room. The furnishing was old-fashioned, but it only added to the charm.
The owner didn't speak a word of English, which I don't expect at all, but even with the translator he wasn't very helpful or welcoming. We bought 2 extra nights and he wouldn't match the price we paid for the first night, which was 10% less. We had to pay the full price.

Super clean, the host was very friendly, our towels were changed daily free of charge. The room was massive, especially for the price, and futons were super comfortable. Super clean bathroom. Best hotel we’ve stayed in so far. Super quiet and relaxing. Fridge and kettle and filtered water in the room as well. Very close to station.
Nothing!

We loved this place, our host was really nice and helpful. He cleaned our room everyday, which he didn't need to. It's very charming, all a bit old school. like going back to 70's Japan (which we loved). The location is very good, quiet, waking distance to train station and restaurants. Great price too.

Near the train station,… although it takes a while to get to the main attractions in the area. Clean, spacious room, Japanese style. Friendly host, whom you can communicate with via a translating app. Good shower. Wifi works well. Fridge, microwave and water heater in the room.
Japanese style means you have to sit on the floor. In the evening there’s nothing to do in town. No restaurants around for dinner. Only a Lawson and 7/11 in town, no real supermarket.

The surroundings are incredible beauty! Next to the station. The room was awesome, plenty of space, pretty clean, and quiet. Perfect to relax. It was so comfortable that I even extended a night. I definitely recommend this place and if someday I return to this area, this is my number one choice to book!!

The owner was very friendly and kindly gave us information about local restaurants. The hotel is kept very clean and is close to the station. For the very reasonable price we paid for two nights, this hotel is great value for money.
The complimentary toothbrush comes with toothpaste. Regretfully, the toothpaste isn’t even enough for one brush.

The room is spacious, very clean indeed. The host is very pleasant, waited for us while we were trying to get to the place due to cancelled trains.
If you don't have a car, be prepared that the trains from here to the centre run very infrequently, there are no buses and there are occasional accidents in the form of a hit-and-run deer. So we waited for an hour and a half for anything that comes and rescues us.

Just 5 min walk from station and very comfortable stay with private bathroom. All facilities were available and the staff was courteous and prompt to clean rooms and refill necessities
There is no lift. Hence with big luggage may be it’s difficult to climb stairs.
