Beautiful view, nice onsen, big room

far from from the center of nikko so getting there was a bit of a problem (even google maps had some problems)

Then in room spa bath was great to use as a couple. the public large baths were clean and very nice.

some of the public areas were a little worn down and could use some replacements I’d carpets and wall coverings

The building in itself is very old and leaks everywhere. Difficult to avoid with the historical places like that.

The front desk staff was very understandable, but a one downside was the breakfast and dinner even though we came at an hour before it ended they still refuse to serve any new food. We had to eat leftovers for the high price we paid

The staff was super kind and amazing. The B1 Onsen was the highlight of the trip. It was just like the pictures. I really enjoyed the onsen.

The biggest problem with the resort is that its dirty example would be mold all over the walls and hallways. The building is falling apart. It needs major renovations!!!!!!

I liked the food. Only tried the dinner. It is buffet style and doesn’t change night to night. I thought the tempura was decent. Should be something there for most people. I think the staff were friendly. Even though they didn’t speak much English, they were able to communicate very effectively.

Most of all, I would say the lack of a shower or bath on the room. This was not clear at all from the Booking.com listing, since it said there is a private bathroom. It should just say there is a toilet and that is all. If you want to bathe during your stay, you will need to do it at the onsen, where there are no private showers. If you wish to use the onsen anyway, this isn’t a big issue. The establishment is pretty clearly in need of some renovation as well. The wallpaper is peeling off everywhere you look and it is quite smoky. Also not the cleanest, but it was rather inexpensive. Also, it is not easy to reach via public transportation. I booked it thinking I would be able to commute to Nikko and do sightseeing. The trains and busses are infrequent and the connections are not very good. I ended up spending a lot of time sitting at the train stations that were in the middle of nowhere. It would probably be fine if you are renting a car.

The staff was nice and tried to do anything needed to make it as good as possible.

The hotel looks like it needs renovation work, especially the bath departments with the Onsen

This hotel was not sanitary. There were numerous large yellow, brown, and red stains on the blanket. When we asked for a replacement, it wasn't possible. There was also mold and hair in the bathroom. Additionally, the carpets and walls throughout the hotel were very dirty and clearly needed replacement or at least a deep clean. Lastly, the windows had very visible dirt on them. Me and my partner did not feel clean in this place. Also, the location of the hotel is VERY far from Nikko. I strongly recommend checking the train times to plan when you can catch the train back to Nikko, because they only run a couple times a day from Kawaji Onsen.

It was very dirty, musty, old at almost $400 and looked nothing like the advertised photos. We felt dirty just being in the room, we couldn't stay. Thankful for the refund but we wasted 2hrs of our time to trying to find other accommodation during prime time in the area, it was late in the evening after an exhausting day with no dinner.

The onsen and the food is wonderful! Onsen are amazingly beautiful and the meals have so much interesting variety. There is an arcade room for kids. Location is lovely but far from easy transportation. There is a small train stop that's a 12 minute walk but an hour train ride to main train station in Nikko.

Resort lobby, restaurant meals, and onsen are great but much of the resort is in need of renovation. Due to the nature of the rain and humidity, there are many areas of mold on ceilings and a musty odor as well as stained carpet and walls. This problem does not seem to be unique to this resort as much of the area seem to be in need of upkeep, so I don't know if any other lodging in Nikko would be different. The bathroom in our room had a foul odor and a large area of mold damage to the ceiling above the toilet. Somehow, (may be my own error in booking) we ended up in a smoking room. The whole floor and our room smelled of cigarettes the whole stay, day and night. And the futon beds are very thin and not too comfortable. Manager apologized for the discomfort but couldn't do anything about it. This area is beautiful but it's easily an hour off the beaten path by train and 1/2 hour by taxi which isn't easy getting help to arrange and gotaxi app doesn't work out there. It seems like they trade off for getting amazing food and onsen for a good price, is the musty, old, rundown state of the rooms and the inconvenience of location. I would still recommend but be aware that you will travel more out of the way and will face some mold and mustiness. Other reviews were misleading that the rundown aspects of the resort have been resolved.
