Please note that I’m quite a pedantic person, and a hostel is the last place I would want to stay at. When I saw Hostel Chillax’s listing on Booking.com, I was immediately drawn to the place. I’m travelling Japan alone for the first time, and wanted to find somewhere affordable and conducive to meeting new people. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by the friendly Nori-san, the proprietor. I hadn’t realised that I had accidentally booked a female-only dorm, much to my disappointment in myself. Nori-san was understanding and gracious, and offered me a private room for the night until a bed in one of the other dorms had freed up. His hospitality and generosity is world-class, and his proficiency in English made communicating even easier with my very limited Japanese. As for the amenities: I am somewhat a germaphobe, and was worried about the bathroom facilities before arriving. However, upon seeing the shower room and toilet, I was pleasantly surprised and extremely relieved at the cleanliness and orderliness. The staff were all helpful and approachable, and made me feel immediately comfortable in my lodging. The location is perfect, and only about a 10-minute walk to Dōtonbori district. The terrace out back overlooking the river is a beautiful little spot to read a book and sip on a beer while watching the hustle and bustle of the city. The hostel is decked out in reggae memorabilia, and there’s always some great music playing in the background. There’s even an NES console in the living area! The vibes were immaculate. Thank you so much Nori-san for allowing me to stay in your wonderful establishment, and many thanks to your staff for their help. If I could give the place 6 stars, I would! Next time I return to Osaka, I will definitely be staying at Hostel Chillax, hopefully for even longer!

The staff were very welcoming! Also it was helpful being able to communicate in English. The instructions given were very clear. The showers were more spacious then I expected. The beds were super comfy after a long day. I really like that there are small shelves inside your bed space! It was nice that you're given a cubby/locker with no lock in the same bedroom in case you have more bags etc. The location is pretty great too as you can walk to busier areas and plenty of food spots plus konbinis are around.

I wasn't aware, but there are fees for renting a towel and other small items which is understandable, but I hadn't seen that information prior to booking. So bring your towel! Also a lock for your free locker is recommended too if you want extra safety.

This is a nice hostel in a great location in Osaka. It’s about a 2 minute walk to the nearest metro, and about 15 minutes walk into the heart of Dotonbori. It was a great base for exploring all over Osaka. The hostel has a spacious and comfortable communal lounge room where it was easy to meet fellow travellers. The staff were helpful and friendly. Security is good. I would stay here again.

The hostel feels a little bit run-down - particularly the private room. For example, there was nowhere to hang a towel or any clothing, except for a coat hanger hanging from a pipe in the centre of the roof. There also isn’t any bathroom facilities on the 6th floor (where we were staying) so we had to go downstairs to use the bathroom or take a shower.

A good vibe hostel with a very friendly staff. It is strategically close to Namba Station, Namba Hatch and Dotonbori but far from the busy places. The common area downstairs is charming and fun when they have music and parties. The lady at the reception was incredibly friendly and nice (as it's mostly the case in Osaka 😊) and recommended an Izakaya nearby. They even sort your laundry for you, so nice. The beds and shower are great but a bit more care and cleanliness in other areas such as in front of the elevator could improve the hostel even more.

Wonderful stay in this hostel. Near a bus station (2 buses per hour), and a lot of trains in the nearest subway station at 6 minutes walk and another at 13 minutes. 10 minutes walk from Dotonbori. But very quiet. And 11 minutes walk to the bus airport station (2nd floor of the ocat center !). So 50 minutes from kansai international airport Dormitory of 12. But in a nice and big bedroom. No noises at all. Confortable beds. Intimacy with curtains on the bed. A wonderful team of receptionists and cleaners. Very friendly. Only deception : there isn't a real kitchen and dinning room for the guest in this hostel. Just a microwave and a boiler in the common room on the 1st floor. And sofas to seat in and eat or on high bar tables. But a lot of kombinis (mini shops open very late or 24 /24 7 seven days a week) to buy ready to eat meals. A shared fridge and freezer and food lockers for our girls dormitory. This room is open all the night, so you can phone later your friends and family abroad without disturbing your roomates. All the time woth good music. So it's a very relax hostel. Definitly a good adress in osaka.

If you gonna arrive late sent them a message and they’re gonna wait for you. You just have to pay a fee.

This situation happened was little confusing and embarrassing the guy on the reception told me I supposed to stay in the 4 floor and I didn’t check the paper which he give me and on the paper I was on the 3 floor but I didn’t realise so I went to the 4 floor take the bed but then at 2 a.m he wake me up saying I was on the wrong bad but the problem was he was a little bit rude and uncomfortable I was trying to just resolve the problem and him was arguing with me. I agree to paid for the sheet of the bed and he still arguing then I asked if he could show me where was my bed and he declined saying “everyone’s know how to fund” thank god one guy was listening and helped me.

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel! I stayed in the female dormitory, and it was incredibly quiet and peaceful — perfect for getting a good night’s rest. Everything was super clean and well-maintained, which made me feel really comfortable from the moment I arrived. I especially appreciated the thoughtful amenities in the bathroom: shampoo, conditioner, and even body lotion were provided. You can also rent a towel for just 100 yen, which is really convenient. The location is excellent — very central and easy to access. The staff were cute, friendly, and welcoming, which added to the overall warm atmosphere. I’m very pleased with my stay and would definitely recommend this place to other travelers. I’d love to come back again!

First of all - thank you again! My stay here was excellent - I arrived here late evening, exhausted with my month-long travel. I was quickly checked in, very efficient process and had clear instructions from the host. The bed, the room, the bathrooms, everything was spotless, and clean. But what I would remember about Chillax is how they went out of their way to help me - I left a piece of my luggage on my last day here. It had a tonne of things I needed. I was already at the airport - they understood and empathized with my plight and traveled all the way from Osaka to Kansai airport to deliver my bag - everything was in place! So thank you for your great hospitality

Very warm environment with an emphasis on comfort and ease to rest or travel. Risa was very welcoming. It was easy to talk with other guests as a solo traveler and take a quick walk to Dotonbori with them for late night activities. The sleeping area was very comfy with think mattresses and soft bedding. Very close to a metro station (5min walk tops) Overall a treat to introduce yourself to Osaka.

My only complaint was that the bedding cubby had no charging port and only one outlet was available in the room. A power strip would fix this issue so multiple people can charge remotely while resting. My portable power bank saved my life in this instance.

The location was absolutely great if you are interested in living the night life of Osaka, and generally extremely well connected as it's just 10 min walking from the Namba station. The staff is incredibly nice and friendly and the chill area is super nice, too! We overall had a great time and would definitely choose it again :)

The size of the room was a bit tricky for two people with big luggage, but we didn't expect anything bigger for that price and location and we were still extremely satisfied with all the other services available!
