Please note that I’m quite a pedantic person, and a hostel is the last place I would want to stay at. When I saw Hostel Chillax’s listing on Booking.com, I was immediately drawn to the place. I’m travelling Japan alone for the first time, and wanted to find somewhere affordable and conducive to meeting new people. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by the friendly Nori-san, the proprietor. I hadn’t realised that I had accidentally booked a female-only dorm, much to my disappointment in myself. Nori-san was understanding and gracious, and offered me a private room for the night until a bed in one of the other dorms had freed up. His hospitality and generosity is world-class, and his proficiency in English made communicating even easier with my very limited Japanese. As for the amenities: I am somewhat a germaphobe, and was worried about the bathroom facilities before arriving. However, upon seeing the shower room and toilet, I was pleasantly surprised and extremely relieved at the cleanliness and orderliness. The staff were all helpful and approachable, and made me feel immediately comfortable in my lodging. The location is perfect, and only about a 10-minute walk to Dōtonbori district. The terrace out back overlooking the river is a beautiful little spot to read a book and sip on a beer while watching the hustle and bustle of the city. The hostel is decked out in reggae memorabilia, and there’s always some great music playing in the background. There’s even an NES console in the living area! The vibes were immaculate. Thank you so much Nori-san for allowing me to stay in your wonderful establishment, and many thanks to your staff for their help. If I could give the place 6 stars, I would! Next time I return to Osaka, I will definitely be staying at Hostel Chillax, hopefully for even longer!

First of all - thank you again! My stay here was excellent - I arrived here late evening, exhausted with my month-long travel. I was quickly checked in, very efficient process and had clear instructions from the host. The bed, the room, the bathrooms, everything was spotless, and clean. But what I would remember about Chillax is how they went out of their way to help me - I left a piece of my luggage on my last day here. It had a tonne of things I needed. I was already at the airport - they understood and empathized with my plight and traveled all the way from Osaka to Kansai airport to deliver my bag - everything was in place! So thank you for your great hospitality

Very warm environment with an emphasis on comfort and ease to rest or travel. Risa was very welcoming. It was easy to talk with other guests as a solo traveler and take a quick walk to Dotonbori with them for late night activities. The sleeping area was very comfy with think mattresses and soft bedding. Very close to a metro station (5min walk tops) Overall a treat to introduce yourself to Osaka.

My only complaint was that the bedding cubby had no charging port and only one outlet was available in the room. A power strip would fix this issue so multiple people can charge remotely while resting. My portable power bank saved my life in this instance.

The location was absolutely great if you are interested in living the night life of Osaka, and generally extremely well connected as it's just 10 min walking from the Namba station. The staff is incredibly nice and friendly and the chill area is super nice, too! We overall had a great time and would definitely choose it again :)

The size of the room was a bit tricky for two people with big luggage, but we didn't expect anything bigger for that price and location and we were still extremely satisfied with all the other services available!

It was my second time staying here, and definitely not the last time. I really enjoy staying here. The staff and owner are amazing. I like the terrace and the relaxing vibes after a week of stressful tokyo. The shower and bath area is clean and so are the rooms. I really appreciate that you don't wear shoes inside. There is an elevator to every floor. With one girls only floor. You can also cook at the kitchen and have some events organized by the owner if you are lucky. Also, everything is very close about 5-10 to namba Station and dotonbori area. The next coin laundry is about 3 minutes away. With nice cafes and restaurants next to it. Atmosphere: chill vibe, the ground level little party corner, location is excellent as it is just 10mins walk to Dotombori, a few convenient stores nearby and a Tamade Supermarket just 2 mins walk away, and 2 mins to the nearest Metro station is really a steal.

It was specifically to our case only as during our stay there was renovation ongoing at 6th floor so our room has no proper lights, 2 yellowish spot lights are in place, but it really makes the room to another level of relaxed ambience and warm feeling.

I can hardly describe in words how much I enjoyed my stay at Chillax. The hostel offered everything I expected and more and so much more. Great attention is paid to cleanliness and the facilities are as you would expect from a hostel but the ambience with its subculture Raggae-Vibe is absolutely exceptional and the location in Osaka is perfect if you want to explore the city or the surrounding towns. Above all, for me the people there made the stay so unforgettable. Special love to my boys Keita and Miku and of course the lovely Reisa. Love also to the diligent student Lisi with the charming smile. I am so grateful for the time, experiences and adventures I was able to have thanks to you guys. I am sure I will come back and definitely stay for much longer. I hope I will meet great people like you again on my next trips, please stay just as you are. 💚

The mattress was not so nice but I am also spoiled by my mattress at home.

We only spent one night here and didn't spend a ton of time in the room, but it was spacious and quiet. The location was easy to get to, and the bed was comfortable. Checkout was easy. There are chill outdoor spots to relax and they also had live music the night we checked in.

If you don't pay ahead of time, they don't accept credit card. The instructions we were given to find our room, which was in a separate building from the main hostel, were vague and it took awhile to find the right place. Once we found it though, everything was great

The staff members are super kind, they really make you feel so welcome! The comon area is really cozy and cool and there's always someone there to talk to. The beds are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, I'm not kidding, I wish I could always sleep there. Room is spacious and sooooo clean, and the location is the best I could imagine, walking distance from Dotonburi but quite at night. Can't wait to be back!

Staffs are nice, they are only available up to 11 AM. Some staff can speak english others cant but thats fine theyre still find ways to assist and help you. You just need to be cooperative and be polite as well since Japanese people are very polite too. Shared bathroom but are always cleaned. The locations is very great few walks you can reach Dotonbori, near thrift shops and other stores in Namba. Near stations. Its accessible if you come from Osaka Kansai airport. They have elevator and have laundry service for only 300yen. Heater is working good and keep us warm from very cold temperature outside. They got blower and hair iron too in the bathrooms.

The room carpet seems to feel very cold and like wet when we go there, it maybe because of the very cold temperature outside. The outlet inside our room is left hanging, so its kinda dangerous if you hold it mistakenly with wet hands. Hope they install it correctly soon since its dangerous.
