1) location superb, with train passing and need ear plug to block the noise. Nearby the shopping street and the beautiful garden, also a super yummy udon restaurant nearby. 2) free udon breakfast by jap bear is incredible, loving it both. 3) nice shower, nice bed, nice common room, great handmade guide book.

1) internet in the capsule bed is annoyingly horrible. Need to go to common room to use. I think it is the reception as my 4G internet also not working well. 2) the dormitory has 20 beds, so one can imagine the condition when it is full.

'Chefy' is a legend. Ask and he delivers with style and flair. It's the best hostel I came across in Japan for breakfast and dinner because Chefy is the real deal - exceptional food and presentation, also creates a great social atmosphere with communal dining. Reception is very helpful Rooms are really functional, ours had a new traditional tatami floor. Windows are heavily double glazed to block nearby railway noise. The shared spaces are full of good information brochures, powerpoints, tea and coffee making. The gardens next door are magnificent - saw some amazing butterflies there, stayed for a whole day! Oh and there's bicycle hire. 10 out of 10 from me for staff and the facilities at Hostel JAQ Takamatsu (and I'm renowned for being very fussy !!)

Lovely staff, I lost my camera on one of the islands and they gave some places a call for me and helped me figure out if someone had found it! The breakfast also goes way beyond the normal continental breakfast. They cook different breakfast everyday for you.I have a gluten intolerance and they made sure to cater towards it. It's close to the park

Location is okay. For food you need to walk around 20 minutes. The bus station is close by though. Would've loved to have the amount of beds in one room more obvious to find. It says in the room description after you booked but I couldn't find the information before. (It's 28 beds). The curtain of the beds were a bit thin and let in most of the light.

It was affordable and right next to Ritsurin Garden, which I was there to visit. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the chef serenaded us with tranquil acoustic music. I didn’t have dinner there, but I assume it would be good based on the quality of the breakfast. It was very good as far as hostels go. I stayed in the twin room alone, but it would have been spacious for two people.

The mattresses are thin and the curtains are not quite sufficient to block out light. Also, the door is a bit loose on its hinges and bangs in the frame when other people open and close their doors or walk heavily past your door. Still, it was pretty quiet at night and I didn’t have much trouble sleeping. The wifi for my room number was terrible, but I was able to get very good signal by using the same password for a different room.

The hostel is new and clean. The bunk beds in dormitory were comfortable and convenient with enough space for the luggages of everyone. Shower in the female dorm, also very convenient (but a bit narrow for tall western woman like me). The staff is amazing. Very nice and friendly, they made me feel so welcome, thank you so much. The diner was AMAZING : go for it, you won't regret. Fresh and local food cooked by the chef. 200% recommended. Also a great way to meet other guests.

The location isn't in the city center of Takamatsu but it is easy to reach and near by the beautiful garden.

There are people like me who stay Hostel not just for money wise but more for warm atmosphere and spacious common area to exchange with other backpackers. If you are like me, JAQ is what you are looking for. Normally I don’t mind bunker bed, but the style of bunker bed look like capsules so I hesitate for a second whether I will go for it. Surprisingly, it’s way more spacious than my expectation and I had a good sleep. Stuffs are so friendly and helpful, not to mention the layback chef who makes delicious breakfast udon noodles, a true manifest of local hospitality. Some visitors mentioned about noise from nearby rail, but I didn’t hear it at all. The hostel is very generous in giving a lot of common area so it’s lovely to linger around for cup of tea or writing post card. ( In contrast to the fist hostel I stayed when arrived Takamatsu, where it’s more focus on running a vegetarian restaurant and literally has very little space to hangout, it matters so much if you want to stay for more than one night). One thing need to mention though, I am a window lady so next time I will avoid beds in the mixed dorm where there is no window. Thank you! Hostel JAQ, your hard working is definitely appreciated.

It would be helpful to print timetable of the airport shuttle at the counter.

Quantity and quality is there. Furthermore, the chef likes to play music by singing and playing guitare to animate evenings - suitcase elevator - in front of the Ritsurin garden - close by the sky loop line station - at the foot step of a big hills covered by forests - very fresh air around : all rooms have their own window an are also equipped with performant AC - Yamaha keyboard available in the living room for music lovers - sliding doors, wooden floors, tatamis : they have different styles of rooms

- 2 shower room cabin floor in the shower room for men needs a little fix to drain the water faster - I want an IPA craft beer fridge in the main hall 😂

I absolutely loved this hostel. I haven't stayed in a hostel for many years but I loved the private spaces created with individual curtains, light and power point. I especially loved the dinners by the chef and didn't eat out once as they were so good. The chef is really great at organising tables so if you are travelling solo that you'll meet others who speak the same language. Dinner time were always fun.

I stayed in the women's dorm for 2 nights which was respectful and quiet and then had to stay in the mixed dorm for 1 night which was a different experience of slipper slopping around, snoring and not closing doors gently anytime of the night but maybe it was just bad luck. Ladies, go with the women's dorm 😀

Beds were clean and comfortable, ready made. Location was good. Still in walking distance from main shopping streets and just around the corner from Ritsurin Garden. Complimentary udon breakfast was nice (very simple and light).

The room I stayed (female dorm) was on the second floor, but the bathrooms and showers were on the first floor. You had to go through the common room where guests were eating or hanging out. It was very strange, especially in pyjamas... I didn't enjoy walking up and down stairs and in front of so many people just to take a shower.

We had a private Japanese room which was more spacious than standard bedrooms in hostels or business hotels. The room and hostel was clean. And the stuff was friendly. A big plus is the possibility to have dinner at the hostel. It's freshly cooked by the manager (who actually is a professional cook). He entertains the guests in the evening with live music and chatting. It's a good way to get to know other guests. The hostel also arranges activities like udon workshops. The hostel is very close to Ritsurin garden. A bit more far away from the main train station, which can, however, easily be reached by train or bus (walking is about 30min).

Everything was fine.
