Very spacious room. Private Onsen was great.

Need brighter lightings in the room. Breakfast time at 8am is a little late. We need to catch the bus to Kamikochi so have to miss the breakfast. Although there were only 2 groups of hotel guests, they are unable to make it earlier or pack something simple for take away. In some other onsen hotel, staff pack something simple for us to take away.

The staff were so wonderful and friendly. The hotel was also kept warm, cozy and quiet. Perfect getaway location. It has a rustic feel which we liked. The food was delicious, and we can’t recommend the hida beef option enough.

They DO warn you that there’s no food and to bring your own. There is nothing for miles. BRING FOOD. They provide breakfast and dinner… with TEN HOURS in between without lunch. Either adding a lunch option or even a snack vending machine would have made this perfect. But we had to ration what we did bring which was a bit stressful.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The area is gorgeous and secluded. The food was very good. The in room onsen is wonderful. The common rooms are very comfy with beautiful views. It is far away from anything else which is exactly what we were looking for.

The age of the hotel is really showing, it could use a refurbish especially of the carpets and the paint for the walls. The rooms themselves need the most love. The lack of nearby amenities such as convenience stores. We read reviews before coming warning of this so packed lunch stuff for our stay which made it much better. Highly suggest to bring ample food, snacks, and drinks!

Both the breakfast and dinner are very tasty and healthy with rich variety of food. It was quite nice to have your own onsen bath in your room. Pretty nice view both outside the room and in the third floor balcony where you can be surrounded by mountains and trees. Staff also very friendly and helpful, fluent in english as well.

The location is a bit far away so it took sometime for the bus to arrive. Plus recommend telling the bus driver to stop at Hoshi No Kanemae in advance. It would probably be quite tiring to walk uphill for 15 minutes from Nagao Kougenkuchi, but it was pretty nice to walk down there in the morning.

The room was exceptionally quiet and comfortable, with it's own onsen and a view of the woods. It felt very private. Breakfast and dinner were both good. Great location in the Japanese Alps, but it was definitely nice to have a car.

I rated this 4 out of 5. It is a great location for hiking and exploring the area around Kamikochi. 2-3 nights is great here. The rooms also had Onsen spring baths in them. The hotel is functional and perfectly comfortable. Two points to note: the staff are really nice but are not local to the area and can not help with organizing your itinerary or really making suggestions, so do plan beforehand and secondly the restaurant is quite limited. You have to order food in advance and it is traditional Japanese food that may not appeal to all Western tastes.

More choice in the restaurant for breakfast and some more vegetarian options for dinner.

If you want to calm down after some stressful city days, I think this is a great place to go. There may be newer or more luxurious options available, but I loved staying there. The hotel itself as a unique atmosphere. The village is very peaceful and not many tourists around when we were there. Valley kamikochi is very touristic on the other hand. There is a beautiful but challenging hike up Yake Dake you can start from the hotel. You can descend down to kamikochi or take the ropeway down same side as hotel. I’d suggest the ropeway. Staff is super friendly and they work very hard. I loved the private onsen and the condition of the hotel isn’t as bad as other reviews made me fear. The foyer spaces on each floor - to me - are some of the most beautiful hotel spaces I’ve ever seen.

I think you can feel the cost pressure operating the hotel, as they really want you to book some meals. There is a small store nearby and the „hikers in“ 20 minutes by foot serves nice food. so not really necessary.

The private onsen inside your room and the cordiality/warmth of Shiva and his family are a fantastic experience. Rhe dinner is fantastic. Whether you are Japanese or foreign, you will be impressed by the diversity of options and the care with which the food is prepared. The room is huge, and the comfort provided at the inner onsen is mostly what makes the rating 10/excellent, despite the location to arrive on foot with baggage, if you are not driving or lose the specific bus.

Everything is a marvelous experience. I would suggest more towels inside the room

Nakao Kogen Hotel Kazaguruma was absolutely amazing. I could not recommend this accomodation enough. My partner and I visited Japan for just over a week and visited many places but when we returned we honestly wished we spent the whole time here! the location was absolutely superb and the photos do not do it justice! It was even better in person. The onsen bath in the room was stunning and the food was exceptional in standard and value for money. Very helpful and incredibly kind staff. 10/10, we can't wait to come back!

There was nothing we didn't like! The accomodation was perfect. Serene location and the wildlife was beautiful!

One of the best hotels of our entire Japan trip — and definitely the best in terms of value for money. Spacious room, comfortable beds, a sulfur hot spring bath right in the room with a mountain view, and an amazing dinner at a very reasonable price. There was even a small TV with a VHS and DVD player. LOL! The hotel and the surrounding area were very quiet, with hardly any people around. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. Free Yamaguchi massage chair as a bonus!
