This was our first onsen experience and we enjoyed it. The kaisiki meals were fun and we got to try a lot of interesting things. The walk from the bus station is only 5 minutes although google sent us around a back way when we first arrived. Just take the main road :) Most of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Yukatas in various sizes were available.

The only negative was the irritation we sensed when we arrived. I had written in advance and was told it would be ok to store our luggage before 3pm check in. Baggage storage is also listed as a service they offer. We were made to feel like it was a big inconvenience to show up before 3pm and then the luggage was just left in the open in the lobby. Had we known it would be a problem we would have just stored it at the bus stop or taken a later bus.

Very nice staff, nice onsen, good location to hike and to visit Kamikochi, nice little village with several free hot footbathes

Be aware that there is no real supermarket in town and at least for us it was not possible to book breakfast and dinner at the hotel if not initially included in the booking. There are several restaurants and cafes in the village though and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in giving us recommendations. This is no negative point for the hotel; just be aware and plan ahead.

This ryokan has immense charm and felt like an incredible bargain for the price. The staff went above and beyond to be hospitable, were always welcoming, patient and truly sought to understand and address whatever my needs were. The room felt large and had everything needed for a stay where you can relax and unwind from the intensity of everyday life. If it's available, going for the included breakfast and dinner option is a must. The food was high quality, diverse and always changing. This place has it's own onsen, which was freely available to guests throughout the night and early hours of the morning. There were multiple times where I soaked under the stars and had the place all to myself (if you are new to onsen culture, this can be a nice way to ease yourself into it). This place is special and worth revisiting.

The hotel was quiet and comfortable the time we were there. Probably because it’s out of snow season, I was able to enjoy the onsen by myself most of the time. Onsen oversee the mountain, the snow view is great especially winter time.

Minor things: the room does not have a tea pot. I’d hope as a traditional Japanese hotel, I can enjoy some tea time. But the room has tea , tea cup but no tea pot. The half board food were nice, although I was expecting room service and hida beef as dinner.

Located in a national park, the Ryokan is surrounded by nature. It's so spacious, and offers so many beautiful common areas guests can use. The spa facilities are exceptional, especially the outdoor spas, absolutely beautiful! The meals that included in the room fare are way beyond our expectations. They really care for the guests and cook with arts. We feel really pampered by the foods, the restaurant environment and the service. Our room is spacious and well serviced. We had a such great time at the Okada Ryokan Warakutei, and definitely will come back later!

Outdoor onsen. Very quiet hotel. Breakfast and dinner is Japanese meal. It is quite a great experience for anyone who want to experience japanese culture.

Breakfast is not buffet. No juice provided. Room is standard room for ryokan but a bit small when there are 3 persons in the room. The bathroom is very small.

Room is clean, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast and dinner are good too. There is a day where I need to leave the hotel early in the morning before 6am, the staff prepared Onigiri breakfast for me to bring along. They are so thoughtful

Only comments is the Onsen is a bit small. There is only one outdoor pool and it can't take more than 10 people. If there are more pools will be more ideal.

The bath was big with lots of different onsens including an outdoor one, and the room was very nice and spacious.

It has the feel of a big hotel instead of a Ryokan, so you don't feel as cozy and warm with the hosts and you do in a smaller traditional one. But it was still very very nice.

Clean and well-furnished. We loved the onsen too. The breakfast and dinner were great, but a tad pricey.

The counter closes around dinner-time. There were no signs stating this and we only found out when we arrived back at the ryokan after having dinner in Matsumoto City and were unable to collect our room keys. There is no phone for you to contact the counter staff at the counter itself or common area either. We ended up having to dial them from a phone in the onsen shower area.
