Parking at guest house and walk to bus terminal to Kamikochi. Cheaper than stay in Kamikochi national park. Open air onsen very hot.

This place is a jewel! The Tiffany-style glas art in every room and corridor, with local themes (mountains, flowers) creates a wonderful atmosphere. 3 nice onsen baths (no sulfur smell) that you can use when they are free without booking (no wait while I was there). Language is no problem even if guests don’t speak Japanese, since the owners have anticipated all questions you reasonably might have. There are instructions and videos (e.g. for how to make your futon) everywhere they are needed. Even tablets with other foreign languages than English were available. Futon and pullow were very comfortable (if you have ever had back pain from futons that were trendy in the 1990s (in Europe), forget those; Modern Japanese futons are very comfortable). Other guests were considerate, so it was quiet. In the lounge there is a microwave, hot water, tea and coffee, and even breakfast pastries during my stay. The location is great if you want to go to Kamikochi and Shin-Hotaka, both of which are 30min by buss.
Nothing that I can think of (and I tried 😉)

Tsuyukusa is a tradtional guesthouse only a short walk from the bus station for Kamikochi, Takayama, and Matsumoto. It’s a cute place run by a family who only speaks Japanese. I stayed in two rooms which varied significantly in quality, though they were both clean. There is a free massage chair and three private onsen including an outdoor one on floor two. There is also a small dining area. You can lock your luggage when you leave.
I wish there was a stovetop and tools for preparing food other than noodles. There is an instructional video about checkin that plays 24/7–seems like a waste of energy and the music can be distracting.

I chose to stay in a ryokan-like hotel because I like the personal touch it has. I was surprised to see everything automated here. It has its pros and cons. Location is good, near to restaurants and train station. The outdoor bath is fun too. Indoor baths are pleasant too. A man gave me the hotel business card and it was very interesting and fun to look at.
Walls are super thin, I can ever hear when someone spits in the common sink outside. Footsteps are also quite loud. Hence.. be prepared to be woken up by those getting on the 530am bus for kamikochi. Either that or use earplugs. I’ve never really had a problem like this before in any other stay but there’s a first for everything. Price is also quite high for a hostel-like stay, and in the morning I couldn’t get any hot water for the shower for the indoor bath. Not sure if it’s a user error or what🥲 but I just had to rinse in cold water

The owners were super nice and helpful despite not speaking English. The Ryokan is just beautiful, every room has its own flower theme. The outdoor onsen was the highlight, it's amazing to relax in the hot water while breathing the fresh air. They have super modern toilets which is a fun experience as well. You can also try the massage chair and use the kitchen to drink free tea and coffee. Location is also perfect, just 2min walk from the bus station
I think the guests next door didn't realize that ryokan walls are very thin, sadly they were noisy until really late at night.

We had both a living room with a table and a sleeping area with futons. The room was comfortable and it's a great location if you want to visit Kamikochi. The private outside bath was so nice, brilliant for someone like me someone who still isn't hugely comfortable with public onsens.
Not against the property itself, but just be aware that there are not many options for food in the evening in the local area. Also, the 9am check out time is exceptionally early. It didn't matter for us as we had a long journey ahead anyway and left about that time but I don't really know why the check out is quite so early.

We had a wonderful stay at Tsuyukusa Ryokan. Conveniently located in the central area, it’s surrounded by convenience stores, restaurants, and just steps away from the bus stop to Kamikochi — making it a perfect base for exploring the region. The place has parking available. The ryokan is clean, well-maintained, and offers all the essential amenities. We especially enjoyed the relaxing outdoor onsen, and there are also several public onsen spots nearby.
Breakfast is fairly basic

Here I give it a full 10 points because 1. it is near the bus station to Kamioji, just a short walk away, so I could go to Kamikochi early in the morning. 2. There are free massage beds. 3. The beds are very good, and there are private onsens to use, both indoor and outdoor. I used the outdoor onsen, soaked in warm water and watched the stars, and was very happy. 4. You can grab free snacks in the refrigerator, and there is also free coffee. 5. The self-check-in system is very good, fast, and has clear explanations. 6. Free parking.

Location is ideal! We came for a night after a day of hiking in kamikochi, there are 3 private Onsens free to use- very clean and cozy. The outside Onsen is amazing!

The ryokan is well located in Hirayu onsen area and walk a few minutes to arrive after leaving the bus station. The room space is large . The onsen facilities and massaging chair are nice and makes me feel comfortable after trekking in Kamikouchi.
The check-in process is through machine and no chance to meet the host to interact. As the ryokan introduction guide is shown clearly in their youtube channel, it does not cause any problem.
