i loved the welcoming staff, the spacious rooms, the fact that in was right in the mountains but then also very accesible by bus. And the multiple onsen were great and the food was just a feast for the eyes and mouth. Had a lovely stay.

Even though I was prepared for them, I did not like the bugs in my room. As you’re sleeping on a futon on the floor, it’s not a nice idea to have a bunch of bugs in your room, and they were also in the toilet and bathroom unfortunatly. The property mentioned it, so I shouldn’t be surprised, but that bothered me a little about the stay

An amazing experience overall - highly recommended! When we went, there were 2 active private onsens (one indoor, one outdoor) and 4 public onsens (male indoor/outdoor, female indoor/outdoor). The public onsens were definitely better than the private ones (with better decor, and the water was much hotter), and we were lucky enough to try them all without having to share :) As there were less than 10 rooms in total, it wasn't very hard to have the public onsen to yourself if you went later at night (and it was open all night). I had a dinner set with the Hida beef addition for dinner (not the Kaiseki). I thought it was pretty expensive before going there, but the whole meal ended up blowing my mind. I have had some Hida beef before, but nothing as good as this one. It was high quality stuff! There was more than enough food, even though it wasn't the Kaiseki. The staff were friendly and helpful!

It was a bit harder to get to, but you can easily figure out the directions using Google Maps. The room itself had a bit of a weird layout, but not a huge issue as we didn't stay too long. The shower in the room had pretty low water pressure, but also not a problem as the public shower had really strong water pressure.

All the ryokans in this remote onsen village can be hard to get to depending on weather and travel restrictions. However, Kazeya is absolutely worth the price and the time spent on the road. It has 4 beautiful and relaxing onsens (2 private, 2 public), the rooms were incredibly large, and it is one of the few ryokans in the area that allow solo travelers to book. The one course hida beef dinner (not included in the hotel booking) was my #1 favorite meal during my 26 days in Japan. I still think about this meal often. The staff are also responsive and will provide instructions on how to get to their ryokan. Would definitely stay again!

Room was very clean. Very easy and clear communication with the staff about food request etc. They showed amazing hospitality. The private onsens were always available whenever we wanted to have a dip, as the ryokan did not have a whole lot of visitors. I do recommend ordering dinner with them; though not heaps of choices, they were all delicious with generous portion. Plus there won't be any choices for dinner in the area, especially when you don't drive. 3-5mins walk from the bus stop. 20mins to Shin-hotaka ropeway (must-go!!). 30mins to Hirayu onsen.

Skincare amenities in the room were not provided. Just make sure you bring some with you. It was a very quiet area. When buses / large vehicles drive past, you will definitely hear them. The room was quite dry too, and the humidifier in our room did not seem to help much unfortunately. Still, we enjoyed our stay.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kazeya Hotel, and it was by far the best experience I've ever had in Japan. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm hospitality and the exquisite attention to detail. The food at Kazeya Hotel is nothing short of fantastic. Each meal was a culinary journey, featuring the freshest ingredients and expertly crafted dishes that delighted my taste buds. The traditional Japanese breakfast and the multi-course kaiseki dinner were particularly memorable, offering a perfect blend of flavors and textures that showcased the best of Japanese cuisine. The onsen experience at Kazeya Hotel was truly exceptional, with a particular highlight being the private onsen. The private baths provided an intimate and serene environment where I could unwind and enjoy the therapeutic hot springs in complete privacy. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with breathtaking views of the surrounding nature, made each soak incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. The meticulous design of the private onsen ensured a peaceful retreat, allowing me to immerse myself fully in the beauty and tranquility of the Japanese landscape. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and beautifully designed, combining traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern amenities. Every aspect of my stay at Kazeya Hotel was meticulously planned to ensure the utmost comfort and enjoyment. Overall, my stay at Kazeya Hotel was an unforgettable experience. The superb food, the incredible private onsen, and the impeccable service made it the highlight of my trip to Japan. I highly recommend Kazeya Hotel to anyone seeking an exceptional and authentic Japanese hospitality experience.

Bed is very spacious and well-equipped with heater, hot water bath and water kettle so guests can stay comfortably in extreme weather. It’s in convenient but quiet location where you can access ski resort about 20 mins ride and supermarket about 5 mins ride. It’s perfect for travellers who drive. Indoor and outdoor, private Onsen are also superb. Not to mention the Hida beef dinner (charged extra for it), it melts into your mouth.

There are small smelly bugs inside the hotel including smoking room, stairs and hallway, which is a bit disturbing. Just walk away from them if you see it.

The outdoor onsen was amazing. Bit scary at night if you are alone but absolutely stunning in the early mornings or during the day!

Basically nothing to do around this area unless you go through the tunnels to the other areas. Most of the buildings here are not in use, some are probably abandoned. The river is also unreachable, but pleasant to look at, Can take a bus to the next area which has more things to do or even walk.

Everything. The staff (unintrusively present). Spacious room (actually 2 rooms: dining area, bedroom - Deluxe Double Room). Inside and outside onsen (the inside onsen opens into a small garden area, so is a bit outside, too). Meal options and breakfast (alternating between Japanese and Western during our 3 nights stay). Public breakfast and dining areas private or semi-private. Location in beautiful surrounds.

Not much but be aware that it's a bit of a hike to get there: 90mins on local bus, running every hours (every half hour at 9am) but it's worth it as you get to see some amazing sights along the way.

Kayeza is a authentic, traditional Ryokan with its own onsen. It has a public (shared) onsen and has 2 private onsen rooms. The dining rooms make you feel as if you are spending time in an ancient time and the food is of an extremely high standard. The rate for the Ryoken includes breakfast and dinner, both being extremely generous and authentically Japanese. To reach this Ryoken I strongly advise that you hire a car as we did. Car hire is very inexpensive in Japan but you must have an international licence to do so. The drive here is spectacular and the roads are excellent so it makes driving stress free, There are beautiful waterfalls on the road from Takayama township which is about a 1 hour drive from this Ryokan.

I had an incredible 2 night stay at Kazeya. The room was huge and I used the public onsen both days (both times I had it to myself!) incredible being in the outdoor onsen surrounded by snow and forests! The food was a great traditional experience. I had the standard beef meal one night and the 12 course meal the next. I ordered drinks both nights and they were delicious and very affordable. I loved it so much I bought the nightwear from them as a souvenir! Easy to catch the bus and spend half a day at the ropeway to get lunch
