For a peak into some Japanese culture, this was excellent. We opted for half board & the food was very good. It was interesting to experience so many dishes & the way in which they serve them, all whilst taking in the amazing views from the restaurant. The Onsen also has incredible views & sitting in the outside bath watching the black kites circle overhead is worth it alone. The Japanese style rooms were lovely to see & experience but we found the mat type beds too hard/uncomfortable for us. It wouldn't put me off doing it again though for the overall experience. It is outside of the town but such an amazing spot & there is a free shuttle bus morning & afternoon into the centre. Finally all of the staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful, on hand at all times.

View from onsen really nice over the water. Staff were so friendly (beyond usual friendly), I had the half board and it was great quality and plentiful. View from room really nice. Huge room. Opening windows. Everything was very well organised (people to guide you to a parking spot, dining, etc)

Noisy - unfortunately traditional rooms with tatami meant you can hear every very loud footstep from neighbouring rooms, and talking too through the thin walls. The floor felt a little bouncy/squeeky so even if you tried to walk quietly it was loud. Futon was ok, better than some futons I’ve slept on, but not the most comfortable either. Luckily there are multiple futons in the cupboard you can stack them up for extra cushioning.

The food was to die for (literally), as we were served a kaiseki of different seasonal foods, including an assortment of pufferfish which was very, very delicious. The room was very spacious and tidy with great views of the mountains, sea, and local docks below. Yukata's are provided free of charge. This hotel was one of the most memorable highlights of our trip! We only stayed for a day, but we'll definitely be back to visit again. The staff were cordial and helpful, and the view of the starry night sky from the onsen was wonderful. Transport can be arranged to pick you up from the nearest bus stop, so don't let not having a car stop you from visiting.

There was a slight strange smell in our room when we came in, unsure of what it was but it was very noticeable. Future travelers, if you happen to come across a strange smell in your room- please ask staff.

The food is spectacular! Dinner is the traditional multi-course Japanese style cuisine. All fresh ingredients and wonderfully presented. It included Fugu when I stayed, so if you are not comfortable eating that or have allergies inform the hotel as early before your stay as you can so they make substitutions. The location of the hotel itself is a little outside town but there is a free shuttle bus service. The location is on a hill overlooking the bay with a great sunrise. I counted at least four sea eagles from my room circling over the bay. There are staff who speak good English so commination isn't a problem.

Nothing, the stay was perfect.

We loved EVERYTHING about this hotel. The staff are lovely, the meals are wonderful, the onsen is just amazing with its sensational views. The room facilities may be a little dated but they in no way detract from the stay. It's a fabulous place to stay in Hagi. They even put a "woman" sign (just for me) at the entrance to the onsen as I was the only non-Japanese female staying so I would know which entrance to use.

Absolutely nothing. Everything was great.

Breakfast and Dinner was included in the price and both meals were excellent. Enjoyed the Onsen and the view from the hotel. Some nice walking trails easily accessible from the hotel. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful during our stay and shuttle buses are available to and from Hagi.

Can not think of anything that I didn't like.

This is not a dislike but a laundry facility would have been helpful especially since this was the last leg of my trip.

The staff were accommodating according to our needs. My husband has a gluten allergy. They cooked gluten-free meals for him. The view from our room was great.

We preferred a bed, but the rooms with beds were not available. Otherwise, it was an excellent place.

Nice hotel on a hill outside the centre. The staff were very helpful, the food was amazing and the view was spectacular. You can walk to the mountain. The centre of Hagi is worth a visit.

You have to realize it is not in the centre

Pleasant ryokan, excellent breakfast and dinner (in yukata). Indoor and outdoor onsen. Nice atmosphere. Helpful staff.
