Comfortable bed, nice bathroom and the air conditioner worked well. Reception service was friendly and location was pretty good, some good food options around. The bed is on a platform, but feels like it’s kind of on the floor which would not be ideal if you have difficulty getting up and down.

Room could have been a bit cleaner, we arrived to quite a few hairs on the floor of the room and bathroom, and around the bed They were never cleaned up even after the daily room service. We were given the room right next to the lobby and the noise on a few of the mornings was unbearable. There were large groups of tourists in the lobby, basically shouting at each other from 7am until 11am. They were opening and closing a door nearby and letting it slam every time. The reception did nothing to stop this noise. The road outside the hotel seems to have endless traffic at all times so be careful where you order taxis/grabs from.

What’s not to like about this place? Sure, it’s small, but that’s what makes it convenient of where’s it at. I’d like to point out I have never been to KK, I had no idea this hotel would be a place I would’ve gladly stayed for 2 weeks. Not everyone will see it that way, but it was centered not too far from the Suria Sabah mall which has A LOT of stores and food places to go too. You want McDonald’s? It’s 2 minutes from you. Need some shoes or an outfit? Again, it’s right there. The laundromat is right down the street from the hotel, and it’s awesome because it has detergent already in the washing machine so you don’t have to add anymore. They’re was a dope sushi place right down the way, a good coffee shop. (October Coffee House), and sooo many options. They also have the night market which is 2 blocks down on the weekends where they sell even more food that’s local and is cheap. That food out there was good, you can’t miss it if you’re staying over the weekend. So much good things about this place, the staff was INCREDIBLE when I stayed there, giving me tips on things to do and what to look for and even where to eat. If you guys are reading this, it’s Ricci, I was the only black guy from Cali staying there, miss y’all! Stay here if you need a good central location while you’re in KK, this city was amazing and has a lot to offer.

My only suggestion is to have more pillows on the bed, maybe just two extra pillows? Other than that, place is great.

The place was so clean, neat and tidy. I like that the rooms aren't too big but still cozy. It has sufficient, modern and subtle lighting. I appreciate that. The shower, hot water and AC all functioned well. The staffs were so friendly and helpful. Especially the two ladies at the reception counter. I already felt like home. They greeted me politely and offered to keep my bag since I arrived early. The location is also strategic. Directly above 7E and other convenience stores, restaurants are just a stone's throw away.

The wifi is a bit slow and keeps on disconnecting. My room was on the 3rd floor, maybe it's far away from the router. I don't know. I can get up to 40 mbps max and lower than 10 mbps at times. What's disappointing is even my cellular coverage couldn't even get 5G. I could only get 4G coverage with celcom at 30 - 40 mbps only. Don't know why. Other than this, I have no complaints.

Aside from a slight parking challenge, Matata Hotel is strategically placed, with Suria Sabah just behind it, and 7-Eleven right next to the hotel entrance. Just a road away from Gaya Street. The first thing we did was check with the reception on the great local restaurant nearby and got some great recommendations as well. The rooms are clean, the lobby looks spacious as well. This place is perfect for travellers without a car during their travel.

A dedicated space for parking would be great. Understandably there are limitations when operating a business in that street that are out of their hands to control as well.

Clean Peaceful Good location Friendly service Reliable Matatata Hotel was one of the best stays I've ever had. All the staff go above and beyond to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. I found that the location was ideal with Suria Sabah mall, the marina/marina market and Gaya night market being less than 5min away on foot. There is also many food options in the surrounding area and even resturants at your door step along with local shops like 7eleven and Watson. I had an incredibly peaceful stay here and will definitely be coming back if ever in Sabah again.

Rooms can be a bit cramped if you have big luggage. There was some sort of leak in the toilet that we couldn't find the source of so there was always a puddle on the floor.

The staff were very friendly throughout our stay. The hotel was at a great location - near a self-service laundromat, some food and malls, a cafe, and even had a convenience store right below the hotel. Rooms were small but comfortable and had everything we needed. The hotel was also able to accommodate our late check-in and early check-out.

The rooms might feel a little small for two people with a lot of luggages. Also the walls are a little thin so sometimes loud sounds may penetrate the walls. But we were not disturbed by any noise during our stay.

Firstly, the location. Very central and with. Walking distance to jetty and malls. Special shout out to Vanessa, the staff who helped us even before we departed. My son’s luggage was accidentally locked and she offered to help me arrange a locksmith even before we arrive at hotel. And when my son left his charger in the room when we checked out, Vanessa promptly found it and texted me to retrieve. Superb staff in Vanessa! She is a real gem !

No hangers in the toilet and wash area for hanging clothes. Very strange as it is such a basic requirement.

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel, a real surprise as from outside it doesn’t look like much but inside the building has been completely renovated to a high modern standard. The standard room was cozy, clean and new, with all the features of a modern hotel and everything worked well. Staff very sweet and helpful too.

Perfect location at the heart of KK city, walking distance to the Gaya Street Market, Handicraft Market and Todak Waterfront. Hotel is new so amenities are not dated, room of perfect size, water pressure is excellent. 7 eleven beside the hotel entrance. Will stay again!

Difficult to find parking space if you are driving & the road in front of the hotel is always congested A bit of stairs to reach the lift to hotel lobby & rooms.
