great room, clean, comfortable. The only issue is the sewer smell that came through the bathroom drain which I was later informed is common in Asia due to lack of a P trap. Easy problem to solve by covering the drain with plastic. Unfortunately, I did not have this knowledge until after I left and endured the smell for a few days. Housekeeping was really nice, came and cleaned/sprayed the drain to help reduce the smell. The location is wonderful, conveniently located near everything. And the weekend night and day markets outside were a joy! To be that accessible to street food made my heart and taste buds dance! I stayed here primarily for the Borneo marathon and for a few days afterward to explore Kota Kinabalu. I would stay here again!

I had an absolutely delightful stay at Signel Poshtel in Kota Kinabalu. From the moment I arrived, the guest care was outstanding. Rita, the friendly check-in staff, deserves special mention for her warm and cheerful welcome. She went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect, making me feel truly valued as a guest. Stayed at Signel Poshtel on two separate occasions on a trip, both great. Once with a shared bathroom and once with a private bathroom. The former was much more spacious and the shared bathroom setup was super discreet and clean (robes are a nice touch). The private room was much smaller, but still functional. Location is excellent, right on Gaya St, and staff were super friendly and helpful on advising us.

The 200 ringgit cash security deposit feels a bit OTT when rooms are already on the pricey side, but I understand the reasoning behind it

The first impression as I entered into the property was enough to tell me that this is going to be an excellent place to stay! I stayed in both the bunk bed room and the smaller single person room. Both are clean, things were perfectly arranged and tidy! The shower and toilet are clean. The bed was well presented with that banner sheet placed at the end of the bed (not sure exactly what you call it). For the budget I paid for, everything in the hotel was well planned, designed and set up like a 5 Stars room! The pictures shown from the booking sites is exactly what it shows! The staff is super friendly and helpful! I'm glad I found this place! Will recommend to anyone 100% anytime!

The bed is slightly harder for me, but that's my personal preference! Overall I can't find anything which I don't like!

My stay at Signel Poshtel exceeded all my expectations! It offers hotel-quality services at a budget-friendly price. The location is unbeatable—right next to the lively Gaya Street, making shops and restaurants incredibly convenient. The common area and lounge are cozy and inviting, with a beautifully designed interior that adds to the charm. The dorm rooms and beds are clean and comfortable, and I felt very secure with the RFID locks on all doors and individual lockers provided for each guest. The staff and front office are exceptionally warm and friendly, always ready to help with a smile. What truly stood out to me were the toiletries—they provide vegan and organic products from Erutan, including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. It's rare to find a hostel that goes the extra mile like this! This is the best hostel I’ve stayed at so far, and I’ll definitely be staying here again when I’m in Kota Kinabalu.

It’s a minor detail, but the lift/mini elevator was quite slow, so I often opted to take the stairs instead.

1. the table in the room is too small 2. not enough hanging space in the room particularly when you have to hang your swimming suits 3. laundry service unavailable at night 4. the elevator is only from 1/F upward, does not reach the G/F, meaning you have to carry your heavy luggage from G/F to 1/F

This poshtel may be the first in Malaysia that caters for backpackers and solo-travelers like me in such nice, cozy and most importantly, clean ambient! The room size is good enough for 2 with standard amenities that makes your stay convenient, apart from being comfortable. I often see this type of hotel in Taiwan and did not expect it in Malaysia, with such good standards. Would definitely recommend to others and return for future stay.

Wifi was slow and I couldn't even browse YouTube on my second night. Apart from this, it will be the 3 flight of stairs as this could be inconvenient for those elder travelers as the lift is only available at level 1, not ground.

Location was superb. Many shops nearby, 24hrs food court. Next to Gaya street food on Saturday weekends which turns into Sunday street market. Rooms and hotel is new and bath room are clean and nice toiletries. So convenient to walk around and see the water front and surrounding shops. Free Wifi. Coffee/tea and biscuits provided. For the price what else would you asked for.

Nothing to dislike really. The live music from the food street were going on till late but finish by Midnight. Perhaps the only thing is the Hotel lobby is at 1st floor and you would have to pull your heavy luggage up to the lobby to check in. There is a lift which only starts at the lobby.

Attitude of staff very good. Answer questions patiently and makes us feel welcome unlike some other places where we had visited in our travels. Staff makes us feel welcomed that we would hope to return again even though carrying luggage up the steps wasn’t exactly fun.😂😂😂

Carrying the luggage up the stairs as we being senior citizens travelling on our own would prefer places where we can enter at ground level to reception even if it involves taking a lift to nxt level where reception is located. But staff was very helpful to help us carry our luggage down the steps on checking out. 👍👍
