Overall, it was a really nice stay. The female dorm and showers/toilets were clean. Showers were strong and hot. The location was really perfect - only a 15 minute walk from the orangutans, RDC, and sunbears, and the lodge was very peaceful. Breakfast was good and the restaurant had good food at a reasonable price. Filtered water and hot water was available, and restaurant staff were very friendly.
Luckily I was in a well-positioned bunk, but be aware that there are only 4 plugs in the 6-bed female dorm, and they are all at one side of the room. If you’re in bed 1 or 2, you’re fine. But if you’re in an upper bunk or a bed at the back of the room, you’ll find it difficult to charge your phone. And bring a jumper, because the AC is very cold (which is nice after a long day in the rainforest, but not so nice in the middle of the night!). Also be aware that Grab is readily available to take you from the airport to the hostel for less than RM20. You don’t need to pay for the lodge’s transfer. But going from the hostel to the airport is more difficult, as most Grab drivers don’t want to leave the area to do the trip. So, leave yourself plenty of time to find a driver that will come.

I had such a wonderful stay at Tanini and wish I could have stayed longer! It is very clean, my deluxe twin was huge, had everything and more than I may need, clean bed, towels, screened windows which allowed to sleep without a/c on, and an amazing outdoor (hot!) shower. Those pictures on Booking don't do it justice. The property gardens are scerene. With blooming gardenias, fun fruit path, ton of educational information, and beautiful plants. There is a restaurant on site, which I thought was good, buy wished they served their dinner earlier. Fara, and especially Yeb were fantastic. They were always helpful and always tried to accommodate me no matter the request. Overall, the staff is great. Hannah gave me the warmest welcome I've ever had in Malaysian hotel. Gave me bunch of good recommendations, helped plan my days and booked a driver. When hiking in the rainforest, I got bitten by some insect in several places and had a bad allergic reaction. Separate THANK YOU to Eris who dropped everything and immediately took me to a hospital in his car and patiently waited for me to come out. He kept checking in on me through the morning and helped me in any way he could. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Highly highly recommended!

When I booked, the female dorm was only available for one of my two nights. Upon arrival, the staff kindly adjusted my booking so I could stay both nights in the female dorm. The dorms were fine. There were electric outlets on either end of the dorm, convenient to people in the bottom bunks. Bathrooms were clean and had good hot water. Location made walking to RDC easy. What makes this place stellar is the restaurant! The food was some of the tastiest I have had, and there were always excellent vegetarian options. Staff also were willing to pack me breakfast to go for early morning starts. I definitely recommend Mango Garden Restaurant and would eat there for sure if I were in the area I did.
It would be really nice to have privacy curtains on bunks. This is one of the only dorms where they don’t have curtains. There are no reading lights for each bunk, and the room is rather dim. AC was tricky to manage, but that might not be something easily fixed.

Great location about a 10min walk from the RDC and 20min from Orangutan/Sun Bear Sanctuaries. Breakfast was decent. If the resort is full, there is a buffet with made to order eggs. If not, they'll serve you. We were in the newer/Deluxe rooms. They were large and comfortable. Good ac. Decent wifi. Outdoor bathroom was fine, just muggy, and you get to shower with geckos watching 😆 Hotel helped make reservations for tours. On-site restaurant good and you can walk to a couple of other restaurants in the area. They offer laundry service (15myr/kilo).
This isn't specific to the resort, but the area. It's possible that you may have periods of time without electricity or water. When that happened, the restaurants couldn't cook. This is a semi-remote area, so no grocery or convenience stores. Just know that you can use Grab and order food delivery from Sandakan if needed.

Stayed in a deluxe room, which was great. Good size, very clean and Air conditioning excellent. Outdoor but private bathroom, very good shower. About 1.1km from Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation centre, easily walkable for us. We stayed Bed & Breakfast. Breakfast was simple but good. A la carte dinner menu also delicious and good value.
Note that dinner will be a buffet only if the restaurant has a high number of pre-bookings. This happened on one occasion during our stay. However, we took a 5 minute walk to the White House Bistro, where the food was delicious and great value.

Nice rooms all very clean , enjoyed the simple meals in the restaurant. Seemed to be the quiet alternative that is more modern than Jungle Resort (that is busier and bigger and has a pool) . Fruit garden trail and well maintained grounds very very pretty and tropical. Hot water shower was not guaranteed but we had no issue with hot water. Reception helped booked trip to jungle river cruise was very easy.
Further away from some tourist sites but close to the Rainforest Discovery Centre - and was only 4RMB for a Grab taxi to Orangutan centre and local bus also goes there … if 20mins walking in the heat is not attractive!

Our room/chalet was wonderful for the start of our trip. It was very modern and the bathroom was epic in size. Loved the staff and how close it is to the rainforest canopy walk and the orangutan sanctuary. Definitely would stay here again!! NOTE they have a sister property on the Kinabatangan River which we didn't stay at but would likely be just as nice if you need accommodation there.
The 'western style' breakfast was quite lacking. Cold, seemed like leftovers I would recommend adding a more Asian style breakfast like a mushroom congee or other items the staff are probably more used to making.

+ Lovely staff. + Was alone inside a 8-person-dormitory room in February. + Proximity to the Park plus Orangutan + sunbear facilities rehab centers/ park ! additional infos: 1. Regarding breakfast booking: If one doesn't like English breakfast (it wasn't bad, but still just English breakfast) anyways, I recommend to not book breakfast and instead choose a dish like Omelet (comes with fries) in the morning. That's just based on my personal preference as someone who doesn't like sausage and canned beans on a breakfast plate. 2. Regarding cash: Bring enough of it. There is no ATM before Sandakan while some attractions (park + Orangutan rehab center) can ONLY be payed via cash! A seafood trip to Sandakan can be nice tho, since especially kids seem not to have seen to many tourists around. 😉
Not sure how one can not like the place.

The property is as described. Great location to visit The Discovery Center, Orang Utan Sanctuary and Sun Bear Center. The hotel has a restaurant. We dine and ate breakfast there and it was satisfactory. The rooms are clean and spacious. It had kettle so we can make a cuppa. It was great. The aircond was powerful.
Their parking area is quite a few steps down from the accommodation. So perhaps not so suitable for those who has mobility problem. However, it is fine for our group. The stairs are not well light too. So just be careful.

Lovely room, breakfast was ok but one morning was a set menu then next it was buffet, buffet definitely not as good as the set menu day. Staff all very friendly. Great location to see orangutans and sun bears and could also get a grab to see proboscis monkeys in Labuk bay from here too.
We were told to book the hotel taxi from the airport to the hotel. Then when leaving we were told to just get a grab back to sandakan, would have been great to of been told we could’ve just got a grab to the hotel from the airport for a fraction of the price (150MYR for hotel taxi and only 35MYR for a grab)!!! So definitely don’t use their hotel taxi and just get a grab instead!!!
