We couldn't have been happier with our short getaway at the Datai! From the exceptional service and staff, to the wonderful restaurants serving excellent meals and quaint spots to walkabout and simply enjoy the well designed spaces, we absolutely loved all the details of our stay. The beach was very private and exclusive and it was definitely one of our highlights too; plenty of natural elements and wildlife to make our trip extra memorable as well.

The place, The people, The food, The service is absolutely amazing - almost heaven on earth - must be among the top 3 resorts in the world - this was our first visit - and we will come back again for sure

An important issue was not addressed namely that Booking.com and The Datai do not advertise correctly. We have been cgoing to the Datai since 2008 and whilst usually booking directly - had used Booking.com which confirmed our booking of a canopy room "overlooking the tropical landscape". As we had stayed in exactly such a room in 2022 on the first level which is the top level, we were very surprised the room was actually nearly all the way down on the 3rd level down. This false advertising really needs to change and has to be specific. The English language is quite clear so do not use overlooking the landscape if you there is no landscape to overlook on lower floors. We stil would like a confirmation that this is going to be followed up on.

Outstanding!! Absolutely everything exceeds expectations. The transfer and checkin process left me feeling like a celebrity, all the staff are just out of this world, the food and all the complimentary snacks/drinks throughout the stay (esp the truffles in the room!), the buggies are always quick to get you around the resort, the variety of animals you get to see without much effort, the free watersports - the list is endless! And then after all this you walk down to the beach and get that one in a million view....! The spa massage was one of the best I've ever had and the restaurants were all exceptional

Nothing at all

The hotel is located in the middle of the jungle, not far from a wide secluded bay. We lived in the rainy forest villa. All the buildings are wonderfully integrated into the surrounding nature. For convenience, you can be taken around the territory on a buggy, we preferred to walk along beautiful winding trails, looking at local animals. There were also various birds, monitor lizards and various monkeys, geckos. The weather at the end of November was pleasant, short showers usually took place in the afternoon or late afternoon, it was pleasantly warm. The wide long beach is perfect for leisurely walks. As an activity, you can take a board, kayak or a small sailboat. The beach is well maintained, people are dispersed so that no one bothers anyone. The water was warm and practically wave-free. The staff is attentive and kind. We ate at home, it was convenient, the staff served the table as if we were in a restaurant. We really liked the privacy of this place, and our recommendations are for everyone who loves nature.

Fantastic place to enjoy nature, luxury environment, comfort and forget the hectic of life in the city and stress at work, sitting at breakfast with great high quality food overlooking the and listening to the rainforest. Fine dining with Chef Chai Chun Boon’s “Journey through the Far East” an experience in itself

Rooms offer a lot of comfort but management of lights not easy to figure out and always good for surprises. Main/quiet pool too exposed, meaning from all rooms of main building and restaurants you look at the pool - felt always watched somehow. Pool down at the beach or beach the better places to hide away; gym opening hours from 7 am to 8 pm unusually short, used to longer access in the evenings

If heaven on earth exists, then it is the Datai Hotel. Everything in this hotel is aimed at making you relax. Free electric buggy from the lobby to the beach and back. Room with a balcony. On the balcony you can enjoy a glass of wine and listen to the forest. The room is very spacious and cozy. Not just cozy but chic. Robes and flip-flops are a whole separate story. And the bathroom itself with bath accessories, with bath salt and handmade soap. In general, emotions are off the charts. Fruits in the room. Every evening a sweet compliment from the chef. Minibar is included in the price. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The hotel staff does everything so that you do not think about anything but just relax. A huge sandy beach with the cleanest sea water. All the sun loungers on the beach are in the shade of the trees, there is no need to move the umbrella all the time. Also on the beach you can take a kayak and swim to the nearest small island. Also on the beach they periodically give out compliments from the hotel in the form of ice cream and fruit. The food in the Malaysian and Indian cuisine restaurant is very tasty. My wife and I ordered two main courses and a salad and ate too much. You can also have a good dinner in the restaurant in the hotel lobby. This was the first hotel in my life from which I did not want to leave the city in the evening or even leave it at all. The hotel is located right inside the forest. Toucans fly around you and wild monkeys jump on the branches. We took a room with a view of the forest and were not disappointed. From a room with a sea view you also look at the pool. For example, I do not really like looking at the pool. Special thanks to the hotel for the fact that after booking the room they told us that we need to fill out the MDAC form. This form allows you to quickly pass passport control through the SART gate without the participation of a border service employee.

I would like to see some variety in the breakfast. There were few Malaysian, Indian and Chinese dishes. In the morning, almost all the hotels we stayed in Malaysia had noodles with broth. But this little thing did not affect our impression of this luxurious hotel.

We all love the nature (especially the wild animals) surrounding The Datai as well as its seclusion. To see a family of monkeys parading on the wall everyday and hornbills visiting you was such an experience. It also enables you to learn more about the rainforest. Because the children were in bed by 7.30pm we ordered the food from the restaurants to our room so that we could still eat together as a family. The food was exceptional - we think so anyway. The choices of our villa’s own private pool, the children’s/family pool and the sea means that the children spent both mornings and afternoons in outdoor water which was real treat for them.

The Datai is such a long way from the airport. A courtesy transport to and from the airport would have been nice.

The beach, the service, the staff, the restaurants, the activities. A lot to like.

The villa is very comfortable but cold, not cosy. Also very dark.

The breakfast is a foodies heaven - the most amazing selection of food and the pastries were straight out of the oven. I loved the complimentary ice cream cones in the afternoon. The room was amazing and had every amenity needed and more. The service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done so efficiently. Every single person who worked there was so lovely and warm. They all really want you to have a wonderful time - which we did.
