We stayed for 2 nights as we wanted to run the Zegerplas parkrun and the hotel was in a very good location, We stayed on the second floor and the room was large and had a very comfy bed and a table and chairs, plus windows that open! There was a coffee machine, but personally I prefer a kettle to boil water for my tea! Would be good to have a fridge and there is no safe. The shower was great but the bathroom lights are on a motion sensor which meant they turned off when we were having a shower, so we had to get out to reactivate them. It also means if you visit the loo in the night, they come on and illuminate the bedroom. Little things. The absolute best bit about the hotel was the evening meal we had there. It was delicious, and the restaurant was full of locals enjoying themselves. I loved every bit of that meal. If you are parkrunners it is an easy journey by bus to get to the park. You won't be disappointed.
no kettle, no fridge, no safe.

The Stadsherberg is located practically in the centre of Alphen aan den Rijn, very close to a multitude of shops. A relatively new hotel with an enormous charm, warmth and very friendly staff. We've never before stayed in this town, and I absolutely recommend Stadsherberg as the place to stay. Our room was spacious and we had a veranda. The room had a separate toilet and a bathroom with a great walk-in shower. Bed was very OK, we slept very well, decorations cozy and sweet, breakfast was fabulous too, it was just perfect!
Nothing that I didn't like. The only thought I had....people with disabilities would not be able to reach the rooms, I didn't see an elevator.

On a cross country cycle trip and found this lovely hotel to spend the night in. The room was fabulous, we kept commenting how stylish and cozy it was. The staff were attentive, and the restaurant space is bright and cheerful. We were well rested to bike 60 miles the next day! The town is small and sleepy but we did find an excellent Indonesian take away shop down the street for dinner.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was immaculate. We were on the second floor and the room was quite quirky, but very comfortable, with lots of attention to detail. There was a lovely sized bathroom with an excellent monsoon shower and nice quality toiletries. Coffee and water was available in the room and staff provided extra milk when we asked for it. The hotel is situated on a side street, only a short walk from the town centre.
The door to the room needed planing on the bottom - you had to shove it to get into the room! Visitors should be aware that the stairs are quite steep and narrow. This wasn’t a problem for us, but older guests with limited mobility may struggle.

Beautiful property. Great decor. Amazing staff. Dinner was exceptional. I would happily return to this property again. Cute little town. 3km from Zegerplas parkrun.
So I had a 18kg bag and was on the top floor. One of the staff helped me to my room but it was a real struggle to carry it down when I was checking out. Took me way too long to realise the bathroom light was movement triggered; I searched forever to find the switch. This meant it also turned off whilst I was in the shower- I had to get out and wave under the sensor! Loo roll is miles away from the toilet- couldn’t reach haha.

The fresh bakery-breakfast was served to me, to my choice and with speed but care, kindness and thoughtfulness for my needs. At request, they included the delicious speculaas (Dutch spiced) cake from the salon window cake stand and barista standard cafe lattes. Lovely, belle époque decor there and in the bedroom, with the best ever pillows and cushions that made even the wooden chairs a pleasure to sit on. Real Spanish tiles in the bathroom broadcast a recent and meticulous renovation.
Ones own kettle rather than the coffee machine because it gives one ownership of the coffee making process ie., we are living in the room and need this normalising, 'home' activity. But many so-called luxe hotels do not even have a machine so of course it was still appreciated.

Location, a short walk from the main part of the town
Had to pay €20 on arrival, because when I booked a double room, I made an error by not putting 2 guests. I immediately emailed to explain and was my booking ammended. I didn't expect an additional charge because the price was the same with 2 guests as I'd checked earlier before I made the booking. The person who checked me in said it was €20 to cover extra cleaning. I was furious.

The staff are really nice people, helpful and appeared happy in their work. The property is an interesting and tastefully decorated old building. I will probably use it again on my next visit to the Netherlands.
The TV in my room did not work from the remote control, I did not bring this to their attention though as I had entertainment on my smart phone, I was out and about a lot anyway.

What a gorgeous boutique hotel right in the centre of Alphen ad Rijn city which is a fabulous town on the Rhine river with lots of shopping, great restaurants, all the entertainment facilities you need all available in easy walking distance, and flat. The town centre is great for anyone with mobility issues as it is easy to get around. Everything about the hotel was so quaint, so comfortable and so friendly. The hotel had a cute little restaurant where you could have breakfast (amazing food!!! best breakfast every !!!), coffee, lunch and dinner. It also had an outside seating area for drinks and eats. Parking was at the back in a public carpark (with fee machine). The room was very spacious as was the bathroom and everything in our hotel room was tastefully decorated and so comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and had a great service model. Nothing was too much to ask!!! We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel!!!
Only drawback for us was the steep stairs, but I guess that is typical of most old buildings in Europe. It didn't help that we had a lot of luggage and I had broken my arm the morning of our stay, so my hubby had to do all the lifting, toing and froing up and down the steep stairs. But for someone with mobility issues, this hotel may be a little difficult if they have to negotiate the stairs for the accommodation and are unable to do so. But if you can't stay, come for the breakfast or lunch, it is well worth it and so quaint an atmosphere!!!

Lovely room and breakfast.
All quite minor things but...Only downside for us was no free parking at hotel, just on road about 400m away. Also we had heavy bags and hitel has 2 flights of steep narrow stairs. Also hot and no mosquito nets to leave window open. Last thing the bathroom light on a timer so goes off when you're in the shower and it can't sense movement.
