The location of the hotel is really nice. It's on a very quiet small street, but you can get to the city center easily using e.g. metro 52 or tram 4, and the Albert Cuyp market and grocery stores are just around the corner. The room and the common areas were very clean and in good condition. Staff was friendly, and I loved the cozy atmosphere at breakfast, where certain foods were made on request and brought to your table. I traveled with a family, and the room for four people had a tall yet sturdy non-creaking bunk bed that easily catered for two adult-sized teenagers. Would visit again.

I have a hard time thinking of anything. Other reviewers mention that the rooms are small, which is kind of true, but I didn't go to Amsterdam to spend that much time in the hotel room, so that didn't bother me. I'd choose this hotel over some boring chain hotel with bigger rooms any day.

We had to leave

The hotel is located in a quiet area, close to the metro station and many of the city’s famous museums, such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Experience, and more. There is also a nearby bus stop with connections to various parts of the city. By metro, you can reach the city centre in about 11 minutes. A supermarket is also within walking distance. The hotel was clean and well-equipped, offering all the necessary amenities. Complimentary hot drinks were available at any time in the lobby, and the room had a coffee machine for making your own coffee, as well as a small fridge. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The staff were polite and extremely helpful with anything we needed. Special thanks to the gentleman at reception who quickly arranged a taxi to the airport when the one we had booked didn’t show up, and whο even offered us chocolates and fruit while we waited.

This is a fantastic boutique style hotel in an amazingly convenient location. Its very near the metro 52 line, supermarket and some landmark attractions are within a short walk, these include a canal boat trip, heinekein museum, the museum plaza for rijks, moco, van goh museums. Lots of restaurants and bars also within walking distance. From here it is easy to get around by metro, tram or walking! The hotel is in a residential area which is a real bonus as its quiet enough to sleep ! It has lovely decor and is incredibly clean throughout. The staff were all friendly, very helpful and efficient. Rooms are small, we had a standard twin which was compact, but for a short city break, this is absolutely fine. We will stay here again.

It was our second stay in this hotel, so we knew what to expect and the hotel did not disappoint :) First of all - location, very walkable to the main museums, canals, restaurants. The neighborhood - although central - is very quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel itself is not big, feels modern and clean and has everything one needs for a short city break. But the main gem is the staff - from reception to the kitchen, all of them are attentive, going extra mile and make you feel truly welcome. All in all, hope to come back soon!

Nothing really to complain about. Have in mind, that the rooms are small, so we needed some creativity with luggage placement. But this is a common thing in a lot of European hotels, especially located in old town districts and we knew that before coming, so no surprise here.

Room was small but cozy. The bathroom was fantastic, spotlessly clean with a ‘wet room’ type feel. Good quality coffee machine in the room with plenty of coffee and creamer readily available. Peaceful room. Lovely, soft comfortable beds. The hotel is located in a very nice, safe & peaceful, upmarket area, 5 minutes walk to the metro & 2 stops to Centraal station. There’s easy access from the hotel to key tourist destinations, including the Rijksmuseum which is an easy 10 minute stroll. In fact, it is perfectly feasible to walk everywhere in the entire city from here, which is what we did, but lots of public transport nearby for those who prefer. I loved this hotel and would (will) definitely stay there again.

It’s small, but the overhead shower head would benefit from descaling to increase the water flow. Also, it would be lovely to be able to open windows which are locked to customers, so you are reliant on air conditioning. Apart from that there’s nothing that we didn’t like.

We prioritized two factors in choosing the hotel: location and breakfast quality. On both of these, Hotel Nicolaas Witsen earned a 10. Everyplace we went to was a short walk (10 minutes or so) or brief tram ride (2 or 3 stops). For breakfast, we eat very low carb, and the hotel met our desires very well. Eggs were prepared on request: my wife had scrambled with bacon, I had omelette with cheese and bacon, both delicious. From the breakfast bar, we enjoyed a variety of sliced meats and cheeses and a wide selection of fresh fruits. The coffee machine worked perfectly, again with a wide array of choices. Staff were very cheerful and accommodating.

When we checked in we discovered a broken leg on the sofa in the room. I immediately went down to the front desk to report this. The gentleman said that it would be repaired as soon as possible. When we checked out four days later, the broken leg had not been repaired.

I have stayed here twice in the past, the last time being 2009. Good location with a tram stop nearby and/or a pleasant walk into the centre alongside the canals. Two branches of a popular supermarket within easy walking distance

We had booked a twin room (number 14) which was ridiculously tiny and no space whatsover between the two beds. On the first afternoon when we arrived, we were told there were no alternatives available. However, on the second day, the amazing receptionist called Nash not only secured a better room for us but he and the housekeeper moved all our belongings into the new room.

The staff were fantastic and I loved the decor and ambiance of the hotel. Location was great and accessible to everything via walking, tram or metro. Lovely quiet street with the Kale bar two minutes away. The rooms are small but I had already read that it just meant you had to be extra tidy 😁 Breakfast far surpassed our expectations and hot food was freshly cooked by a lovely lady who was so cheerful and happy. Would recommend this hotel 👍😁
