This is a quaint roomy accommodation run by Gaynor who lives on the premises. She greeted us with home cooked muffins which was a lovely touch and also delicious. The motel is not modern but it is clean and has everything you need. The bathroom has been updated and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you would have in your own kitchen. Had the best night's sleep in our 2 weeks travelling the South island. The Speights hotel is just a 2min walk away and the local museum is across the road. We also had parking right outside our unit.

Nothing really to dislike. Could be more modern I guess but then that would take away the character of the place.

Super comfy, warm and fully equipped room with plenty heating options, comfortable bed, very clean, and the host super nice. I accidentally mistaken and picked a wrong date, when I asked her if its ok to change it for the next day she agreed and asked me to cancel the original reservation. Unfortunately, i didn't understand that at the time and didn't cancel it. Only later as we arrived I came to realize that she lost that night as it was still booked on me. I felt horrible and offered to fully pay for that extra night. The kind hostess said she won't charge me for that, and believed me that it was an honest mistake. Later that evening she even dropped by to give us milk and muffins she have made! Lovely place, lovely hostess. Thank you!

Nothing. Everything was beyond our expectations

A perfect choice for my family. Clean, comfortable and all the facilities we needed for a short stay in the area. Parking was available at the front door to our room. Our host Gaynor, well her delicious welcome muffins held over the kids until I could prepare dinner in the fully equiped kitchen. Spacious and warm rooms, and the beds.... so comfortable it was hard to get out of bed in the morning. Supermarket is located around the corner, and exceptional coffee is near there too (look for a little wooden house with a "coffee' sign).

If you're looking for a modern Hotel, this is not the place for you. The decor is dated. But for what it lacks in looks it exceeds in personality!

Nice, clean and comfortable room that had everything we needed. The hostess was very nice and greeted us with homemade muffins made with peaches from her garden. Delicious and an unexpected surprise. Parking was right in front of the door, very convenient.

We only stayed one night and would have liked to do some laundry. Not the motel's fault, they clearly state that they have laundry service, not a guest laundry, and unfortunately Owaka is so small that it doesn't have a coin laundry. As you can see, I am really reaching to come up with something negative. Don't hesitate to book, it's a great motel.

Gaynor was a lovely host. The motel is very easy to find, just off the main road and a nice quiet location. The room was clean, spacious and had a big double bed and a sofa too. The kitchenette was well stocked with utensils and Gaynor provided milk and some delicious homemade muffins! Stove, microwave and kettle and a small table. The bathroom had nice hot water and was clean. Bed was large and comfortable! The town has a couple of coffee shops and other shops, a petrol station and small super market. There is also a pub.

The motel was lovely and a good location for the Catlins. Not much options for what to do in the evening in the local area but we didn't plan on doing anything anyway so it wasn't a problem!

What a lovely find visiting from UK this was our vision of New Zealand Motels. Room spotlessly clean, host-fantastic. Fresh chocolate muffins on arrival nothing was too much trouble. Room was like walking back in time prefect in every way. Highly recommended a superb location for Walks around the bay and sites around Owaka

All good

The motel was very comfortable, located close to all facilities in Owaka. The hotel was homely and had all facilities we needed. We were greeted with fresh muffins by the proprietor who ensured the unit was to our liking. Heating was more than adequate for the weather. Given other accommodation options in the Catlins were scarce, we were more than happy to find such a good motel.

No issues to identify

Great location, could easily walk to local cafe/s, pub, grocery store, museum etc. looked quite ordinary from the outside, but was completely fine inside, quite roomy - wonderfully hospitable host, very customer focused.

Parking a bit unusual and tight for our Subaru XV. But adequate, and off street.

All you could want: a hostess who brought home made muffins, great location in Owaka - really good for touring the Catlins; and a well equipped motel. It's an old style motel but all the better for that. Great value for money.

The Catlins are a bit off the beaten track but with lots to do nonetheless. Its what we wanted but might not suit if you like the bright lights!

The Owaka Motel is an older facility, but everything was nicely kept and very clean. We would happily stay here again as the host was lovely and the motel was good value for money. Suited us just fine.

Not overly grabbed with the colour scheme so when you give the rooms a spruce up maybe consider a nice, lighter off-white shade? But no stress, after all, this is Owaka, not Paris.
