The accommodation was so wonderful and the hosts were just great! Welcoming, warm and super chatty - totally our kind of people! The room was absolutely pristine and the newly-done kitchen was a great wee place for us to have our hearty breakfasts in the morning. We initially got a fright when we discovered there was no oven in our unit but after some digging, we found all the pots and pans for the stove, an electric fry pan and heaps of other goodies that made it easy to whip something up! The view was breathtaking and despite us being quite a distance from our home, we felt truly snuggled in! Considering this was the cheapest accommodation that fit our needs, I could not give it higher praise - it was so wonderful! Thank you

The pull-out beds were super easy to set up but weren't the most comfortable - no fault of the owners as the gerenal aesthetic of the living space was perfect! Was just a little sore the next day so would recommend the guests with the most resilient bodies should sleep in those beds. Give the comfy bed to the guest/s with the most achy body hahaha

The setting, perched above the Rakaia Gorge, is spectacular. The rooms look out over the gorge. With no ambient light at night stargazing is incredible. And with all that, the best part of the stay was owners Jo and Butch who were welcoming, positive and supportive with personalized attention to each guest. Butch is a chef and prepared the meals. Jo is a singer / guitarist who performed for patrons at dinner. Very special people.

We were on bicycles. A pretty good climb in or out of the gorge (but that's not the fault of the Mt Hutt Lodge!).

It’s a very unique property, sitting secluded by Rakaia River, West facing balcony looking directly at north east side of Mt Hutt. Trees, singing birds, fantails. It’s a peaceful, quiet, healing place. If u think it’s gonna be cold and damp in this location, u r wrong. Units Structure are concrete, keep the warm sunshine thru windows inside the unit. I will definitely come back here every winter, 40 mins drive up to Mt Hutt Ski field, 15 minutes to Methven. Our unit came with fully equipped kitchen, heaters, electric blankets, clean bedding n towels, allocated carpark n wifi. In house restaurant, Jo solo guitar performance was beautiful, and Chef Butch (owner) steaks was amazing, the seafood green curry goes perfectly with rice.

Nothing! Kitchen bathroom well keep in the late 70s style, but match up with the Victorian Tudor style. Nothing wrong with it, I still love it.

We chose this lodge as a stopover to our next destination. However it really deserves a longer visit. The lodge is situated in a stunning location, overlooking and only short walk from the Rakaia Gorge, and with Mt Hutt as a backdrop. Our Hosts were charming and friendly, and provided a delicious dinner in their small but cosy cafe. Our room was large and comfortable, with a great bed and hot shower. As an extra bonus, we ate our breakfast looking out at the stunning view.

Stunning location and amazing view of the gorge and river from our motel room. Very helpful and friendly hosts. Spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. We found that some of the descriptions on booking.com matched the apartments in the complex, but not the motel room we stayed in; for instance, no sink in the kitchen part and check in/out times different from advertised, but these were not problematic and we would definitely stay there again.

Amazing location. The views are spectacular. Fantastic bird life. Jo and Butch are wonderful hosts and really elevated the experience. This is not some corporate run operation, it's run by people who care. Take the time to hear their stories, they are very interesting people.

We both found the bed too hard. A good mattress topper would help. To be fair, we both have back backs and are sensitive to to firm beds. Other than that, we found the rest of the facilities to be very comfortable.

We had an incredible stay at Mt Hut Lodge! The accommodation offers stunning views and a truly relaxing atmosphere. Jo and Butch, the owners, were wonderful hosts, providing warm and welcoming hospitality that made our stay even more enjoyable. Our room was clean and comfortable, the Lodge had well-maintained amenities, and a great pool to unwind after a day of exploring. We highly recommend Mt Hut Lodge to anyone looking for a getaway and can’t wait to return for another visit!

Great views of the river. Very convenient location if traveling from Mt. Cook/Queenstown to Christchurch or Hokitika (visited in Autumn; acc. to the pictures also great in Winter for ski). Cable TV (but better look at the landscape!). The hosts offer a delicious dinner.

Room not very modern, though fully functional. Heater runs on a timer, must be turned on every now and then.

We arrived on their day off, a Tuesday, but they fired up the kitchen for dinner just for us and provided all options. We had a brilliant steak. The bar was open as well. This is a small venue with just 2 rooms available to the public, so get your booking done in advance. The rest of the facility is timeshare units. All facilities in our room were excellent.

Mt Hutt Lodge was one of those's rare gems one finds when traveling. As a skier its location was much closer to the Mt Hutt ski fields than the town of Methven and situated on a high bluff overlooking the Rakaia Gorge with scenic views across to Mt Hutt that were truly spectacular, anyone considering a ski trip to Mt Hutt would be crazy to stay in Methven when such a magnificent location such as Mt Hutt Lodge is available. The staff, who were all locals, were professional and courteous , and the owners and managers Butch and Jo , were passionate about there local area and ever helpful with any needs we had. A well stocked bar and restaurant on site provided all we could want to eat and drink, with expertly cooked steak , and local salmon. For any guests that were interested Jo holds an informal information session in the bar, with light food provided where she covers in detail all of the local tourist sights and activities in the area, but ask her at any time , and she will be happy to help. Only an hour from Christchurch and beautifully situated at the foot of the mountains, this is the must stay location for anybody considering a vacation in the Canterbury region.

We only had time for a 5 night stay, would have preferred 2 weeks.
