I recently stayed at Darfield Motel in Canterbury and was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and comfort of the family unit I booked. The unit had two bedrooms: one with a queen bed and the other with three singles. The kitchen was reasonably well-equipped, featuring a hotplate, microwave, electric frying pan, toaster, tea and coffee making facilities, a bar-sized refrigerator, utensils, cups, plates, dryer, microwave, iron, and ironing board. The living area included SKY TV and a DVD player, providing good entertainment options. As it was winter, I appreciated the more than adequate heating. The motel's location is excellent for exploring Arthur’s Pass or the Ashburton Lakes area, which was my destination. Unfortunately, my plan to have breakfast at the famed Darfield Bakery, another reason for staying here, didn’t materialize as the place was closed that day. All in all, Darfield Motel is a comfortable and clean place. Recommended.

We were late due to a ferry delay and the staff were so kind and waited up for us. The location is wonderful and the rooms are excellent. Very clean, full bathroom, clean and equipped kitchenette, big enough for two adults, a toddler with cot and a husky. We even had a small garden area which was wonderful! 5 stars from our family.

If I have to find something that wasn't exceptional, it would be the bed. It could do with an upgrade but still not really anything to be bothered about.

We had a ground level room and it was a great help to have the car parking lot just outside the main door. It was raining and it made unloading our stuff so much easier. There is also heater in the toilet which is a great help to keep warm after your shower. The main area has a heater and there is an additional portable one if you need.

It would be good if the heater in the toilet can be on for a longer period of time. It is operating on a timer and switches off after a few mins.

Used as a stopover to Franz Josef, this was a perfect place to stay before the long drive. The bed was comfortable and the room was well equipped. We were greeted with a warm welcome by our host and shown to our room.

Our only complaint is the pillows were a little too soft for our liking, but we are not all the same in our preference for this.

I booked this thinking it was a simple roadside motel for a long drive but they exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The room was nothing fancy but spotless and comfortable with many unexpected amenities. And the value for price paid was excellent. I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone traveling through Darfield.

Staff, size and quality of room. Room was faultless and newly upgraded. Staff (owner) was lovely and couldn’t do enough to help. Plenty of parking and great value for money. Lovely little gem and not too far from CHC airport - would definitely stay there again

This was one of the nicest properties we stayed in. I would highly recommend this place to stay in. The room size was great and we had a newly renovated room which had very up to date facilities. The decor is neutral with great laundry facilities available.

The only draw back to this property is the main road it is located on. However, you do have everything in easy walking distance.

I looooooved the jug.. nearly took it home with me 🤣🤗 i could not fault our stay x also our fur babie luved having his own playing court.. 10/10 x

May be the bathroom could have something on the floor..was a bit shiny an slippery.. .. just a suggestion..certainly didnt affect my stay x

Very professionally run motel with full kitchen facilities, very spacious, spotless clean, very comfy beds, great night's sleep with double glazing, calfont shower with good water pressure and the best guest laundry I have ever seen!

Graeme is an excellent host there was nothing we didn't like.

Large sized room, good sized double bed, spotlessly clean, parking at door, ensuite with shower/ bath. Easy to use Sky tv., private garden sitting area off lounge. Walking distance to shops, on main highway but didn't cause an issue.

Nothing, laundry out of commission but didn't need it urgently.
