The Darfield hotel is pleasant and well located in central Canterbury between Christchurch and Arthur's Pass. There are scenic places to visit in the area including the great walkway at the Rakaia Gorge, for example. The hotel staff are always pleasant and helpful. The Pub and restaurant downstairs are very good. There is plenty of parking at and around the hotel.

If you need sleep, it's probably best not to stay during the weekend as there tends to be quite a few well lubricated guests carrying on socialising upstairs in the hotel hallway late into the night and the sound proofing of the hotel is not good.

The room was well equipped with all the necessary appliances to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The fridge, toaster, electric kettle, and heater were a great plus. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets to keep us warm. And clean place.

Unfortunately, noise from other guests running in the hallway disrupted my sleep. It wasn't a problem with the hotel, but rather inconsiderate behavior from some guests.

Restaurant and bar are excellent. Location is handy and close to shops. Easy parking.

Single glazed windows that do not seal well so the noise throughout the night is not ideal, especially the train and trucks. Also the rooms have no soundproofing so when in bed you can clearly hear the next door rooms conversation. The rooms are very dated and my TV didn't work.

The cheapest place available at short notice across the whole region. Wonderful staff, awesome restaurant. Comfortable beds. Good shower and soap, coffee and tea with milk in mini fridge. Microwave available in corridor.

Noise: Thin walls, window didn’t shut properly, so could hear people talking in the corridor and neighbouring rooms, traffic and trains outside, music from restaurant. Mostly quiet after 11 and we didn’t have trouble sleeping, except one night when drunk neighbours came in at 1am. No shampoo or hot chocolate provided.

The bed was super comfy. Such good people. Nothing was a problem. I needed an iron. No problem. I needed a hairdryer. No problem. Such friendly staff.

Climbing in and out of the chub for a shower. I'm a bit stiff in the hips and was a little nervous without a handle to grab for support. Oops. I never looked at photos when booking...my bad.

Great central location, excellent cafe/restaurant, impressed by menu selection, relaxed place, had an ensuite in our room, comfy beds, everything you need fort an overnight stay.

The garden out the front is a work in progress. Some of the other rooms I looked at on the way out didn't t look that great - but it's not trying to be the Ritz, and I liked it for what it was.

This is a budget hotel only $100 a night .So if you want a budget price it is the best.A children's menu. A great restaurant with amazing food , the chef will modify the menu. A pumping cosy bar . The bedroom is a bit shabby but has everything, effective heater, kettle , toaster, microwave in hall. Great welcoming hosts Good coffee at bakery next door.supermarket down the road

As I said you can't complain about anything at the orientation . A great value fir money place.

Traditional hotel En route to West Coast after flying in to Christchurch in mid afternoon. Perfect for setting out over Arthur’s Pass next morning. Excellent, friendly staff in hub of Darfield with sports bar and restaurant ( well cooked food). Will probably stop there again later on our trip.

The en-suite is “cosy” but acceptable in an adapted traditional ,not purpose built, hotel.

clean, quiet, room had all we needed and nothing we didn't. The young lady who served us in the dining room was a breath of fresh air, polite, honest, and trying very hard to keep her guests happy. The meals were well-priced and generous and the menu varied with most bases covered and of a more than acceptable quality.

found it odd there's a toaster in the room, but no plates or knives to use once we'd toasted something. No bedside light.

The staff were lovely and bed was comfort and warm

My tv wasn’t working.could have a lamp in room. And quite noisey. Mainly 1st night. But I guess for price was very good. Didn’t say about tv tell few nights before left. They did offer another room.
