Was a perfect place to stay for a local wedding. Our family basically filled out the lodge - the newer area is very nice and the older section is similar in facilities, just a lot older. The pool was nice, and the kids loved the trampoline & swing. The staff were incredibly lovely. Location & parking were great.

The room I was staying in smelt a little bit when I first walked in (thanks to what looked like hobs that had been used and abused over time), but after an airing it was perfectly fine, and none of the other rooms had this.

A very comfortable bed and excellent shower. We had a newer room well off the main highway so minimal road noise. We were able to have our small dog stay with us and the location was close to walking paths along the stopbanks to exercise him.

A bit of confrontation at reception upon arrival due to some confusion on both parts. Didn’t make for a pleasant start to our stay.

Absolutely thrilled with our stay at Thornton Lodge Motel and will definitely be booking in again when we travel through the area. We stayed there with our two border collies and the hosts couldn't be more lovely; loved how pet friendly it was. Bed was comfortable, the unit was fitted with a heat pump which kept us warm and toasty and we had everything we really needed for the weekend.

The rooms aren't too sound proof so we could hear people if they were loud (we had someone coughing next door to us), and could also hear the doors open and close constantly. But I think that's about it. It didn't really affect the quality of sleep though.

We have stayed at Thornton before, a few years ago. On this occasion it was Easter weekend and could only get booked for the Friday night through booking.com. Steve the owner was very accommodating as we were going to a consert on the Saturday and he went out his way to make sure we could have the Saturday night stay also. On arrival we were met at reception and was greeted welcomingly. We were in one of the new units to the rear of the property. The accommodation, was very comfortable clean had everything you need, nice shower to, and in a good spot to travel to Havelock North, Napier and Ahuriri. I give 10 out of 10 and would recommend it.

the rooms were spacious and very clean. they were warm and well maintained. I enjoyed the pool as I am a swimmer. The beds were very comfortable and the linen and towels were a great quality. I would recommend to others with confidence.

There wasn't anything I didn't like about the room. It had everything my son and I needed and so much more.

Nice big room, tidy enough. Good parking right outside of the door and very easy to locate. Pool area looked nice and would likely be a good option in the warmer weather.

No fan in the bathroom so got very steamy and wet. Towels hung up to reuse but were removed anyway. A little bit rustic but fully functional. Woke up to a white tail spider right by my clothes.

Such a cute motel and a great place to stay for a night or two when driving around NZ. The room was huge with a lovely view onto the pool. Staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful with recommendations of places to eat nearby.

The decor was a little dated – but that just adds character.

Room was huge, comfortable and so clean (inc bathroom and kitchen area). Loved the view and access to the beautiful pool and extra swimming towels. Heaps of parking. Wonderful friendly service provided by Steve. I would definitely recommend to all especially families.

We couldn’t stay longer.

It’s close to town and is a comfortable place to stay

The kitchen didn’t have had a larger saucepan or grater and It would have been nice to have basic supplies like oil for cooking.

great and friendly staff. Rooms were clean a bit outdated with the furniture but still in top condition and comfortable. My kids enjoyed the pool it was cold but would be fantastic in the heat of summer
