This was my second time staying at Hotel La Polvora in Granada, Nicaragua — and I’m absolutely in love with this place! First, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the entire staff. They are truly AMAZING! Alejandro is incredibly attentive and always willing to go the extra mile to help with anything you need. Maria, who helps prepare the delicious breakfast (included in your stay!), is always cheerful and greets you with a smile. Larry at the front desk is super friendly, helpful, and full of great info about local excursions if you're interested. And yes — the WiFi is free, which is a huge bonus! The beds are soft and cozy, but if for any reason you're not comfortable, just let the staff know. On this trip, we mentioned an issue with our bed, and Alejandro went above and beyond to make it right — we were so impressed with the service. My girlfriend and I felt incredibly safe the entire time. Even when we returned after midnight, there was always someone at the front desk ready to greet us. The pool is refreshing and clean — don’t let the green color in photos throw you off! The pool itself is painted green, not the water. It’s perfectly safe and great for a dip. (Trust me, I was fooled at first too — LOL.) Breakfast is flavorful and authentically Nicaraguan. I especially loved the Calala juice (a type of passion fruit) — so tasty! I even preferred it over the Jamaica drink. It’s such a treat to come back to the hotel and be able to grab water from the cooler or enjoy fresh juices like Calala or Jamaica. The entire hotel is very clean, and staff checked in daily to see if we needed our room cleaned. Need fresh towels? Just ask! I even requested two extra pillows and got them with no problem. It’s a family-friendly hotel, close to local markets and churches. Taxis constantly pass by out front, and a ride typically costs just 30 cordobas — super affordable. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Book your stay — you won’t regret it!

My friend is allergic to cats, and we were initially a bit concerned when we noticed a few cats on the property. However, it turned out to be a non-issue. The cats are very calm, keep their distance and mostly stay away, lounging quietly in the courtyard or near the garden. I am personally allergic to cats and I found them unobtrusive. They didn’t beg for attention or get in the way, and honestly, I hardly noticed they were there. So if you have allergies or just aren’t a fan of cats, I wouldn’t worry — they’re a quiet presence and don’t interfere with the experience at all.

The hotel was fantastic! The beds were incredibly comfortable, and while the pillows were soft, they were still great to sleep on. The room, as well as the entire hotel, was spotless. The staff was very friendly and attentive overall. The fresh juices, like Jamaica, were truly refreshing. The breakfast that was included was a plus, it was delicious and filling. Additionally, the hotel provided guests with tour information and facilitated connections with tour operators. I highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to return with my family!

There was one occasion when an employee, who seemed to be having a bad day, was quite short with us and displayed some attitude. Aside from that, everyone else was welcoming and attentive.

Communication was off. We had no check in with basic information about the property (what to use etc). We used the shared kitchen (as it is declared in booking) but got told off at first via booking chat. The next morning I got a message via WhatsApp which reversed the statement from booking telling me that I can use the kitchen but should tell the reception first. This could’ve been solved by a proper check in.

Beautifully-restored colonial house. All staff extremely friendly and helpful. Icy-cold air-con. Quiet. Nice breakfast. Professionally run. I had room over pool with own balcony. I paid US$70 including taxes and found that to be value for money.

Personal view, but I found mattress too firm. However, hotel helped by providing me with extra pillows. It is a 10 min walk to town centre - along safe streets etc. I found the walk an enjoyable opportunity to think and see different parts of the town, but some people may not like this.

Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and sweet.

the upper level has some issues with rats populations , the poop from any of those creatures is falling down to the room and the smells is terrible 24/7 . the A/C unite barely working and it takes forever to cooldown the rooms . I was very concerned about sanitation sheets, towels, and everything else.

Absolutely stunning hotel. Everything is perfect, rooms are big with AC, very clean, stuff is very friendly and very warm. Close to restaurants just takes 10 min walk max. Breakfast was very delicious, I had omelette , kitchen is open so you can see how the staff preper your food. Cats walking around. I felt very good at staying.

The water in the shower is not running well. So it is difficult to wash your hair, but I don't know if it is the same issue in another rooms.

The staff went above and beyond to help my family. We made the mistake of booking a horse & carriage tour on our own, while walking through Plaza Independencia (the main square). We agreed on one price, $40. At the end of the tour, while dropping us off at the hotel, the tour guide demanded 3x the rate. Claiming overtime, park toll fees, and "special attractions visited". An argument ensued. The hotel staff jumped-into action, came outside to our rescue and exposed the scam. They knew the owner of the horse tour company, and called-out the true price. The moral of the story is, over the years, the main square has become a nasty tourist trap with a lot of aggressive vendors who target tourists (Which is NOT usual Nicaraguan culture). If you can avoid it, that is best. If you want a tour, simply ask the Hotel staff directly. They are very trustworthy. And will go the extra mile for their guest, which is representing true Nica culture!

The hotel is a bit out-of-the way. About 12-15 min walk to the main square. This can be a positive or a negative, depending on how you like to travel. It's in a safe neighborhood, so, the walk wasn't bothersome. As far as the rooms, we found a few mosquitos in the bathroom upon arrival. Lastly the AirCon (room 7) was basically non-functional. The other room we rented, had a new AirCon unit, which worked great. We were told they were planning to repair (or replace) the unit in room 7, so, hopefully that is done before the warm seasons begin.

It’s a beautifully restored traditional building. Nice breakfast. The staff is the best asset of this property - everyone was so nice and accommodating, especially Steven and Kevin at the front desk and the restaurant staff. Beautiful pool area.

None of these were issues for us, but for posterity: the neighbors are very loud, music during the day, dogs and chickens making noise at night. I brought earplugs and that solved the problem. Also the location is a bit far from the central areas of Granada, however it is only 15 min brisk walk on a pleasant street (Xalteva), or they can call you a taxi - takes 5 mins and costs $2.

The hotel was a good surprise. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the facility was beat with spacious bedrooms . Mine was next door to the pool and had a great view. The hotel by itself looks neat, and the rooms are comfortable.

Not to the hotel itself, but they offer day pass for pool usage, and the weekends seem to go very noise people, and the pool goes a little crowded with loud music. We had to leave that Saturday, but at night, it was peaceful. Overall, the hotel, the staff, and the facility are a great option if you want to stay in Granada.

The hotel is gorgeous, especially the gardens and pool area. The rooms and beds were comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful and helped me feel well taken care of. The breakfast was delicious and there were a variety of items.

We had a car, so the location off of the main drag was not a problem for us. I liked that it was a quieter part of town, since we brought children.
