It was aesthetic looking, close enough to downtown, mostly clean and quite comfortable.
I extended my stay here for two extra nights and specifically requested to keep the same bed/room. The staff confirmed with me that I’d not need to move during my last night but unfortunately I was asked to move again the following day. I stayed 3 nights and was moved 3 times, kinda sucks :/

Staff super nice. The design of the place is very interesting. Bedroom are nice and bed confortable with plugs for the phone.the design of bedroom was nice and bed are fixed so you don’t get bothered by the person going in upper bed. The staff was very nice, welcoming and respectful. There is seats and terrasse to work outside. Shower and toilets were very clean. A/C was working properly.
The curtain of property was too short to cover the all length of the bed which was very strange. The shoes and flip flop should be forbidden in bedroom because the floor was quite dirty and with lot of sand.

I booked one night in the dorm and one night in a private en-suite. The dorm was very good, with lots of safe storage space under the bed, and more space at bed level to have my luggage. There was even a rack to hang a towel or fabric for some privacy. No issues with mosquitoes in the dorm, probably because it has AC and a fan. I loved the style of the hostel. Bed was very comfy. Breakfast in the cafe next door was very nice. Close to lots of nice restaurants. Staff was useful. Would love to stay there again.
The private room didn't have a fan nor bed-side light. It did have AC but I prefer a fan to AC. I had a few mosquitoes during the night, so a mosquito net or a fan might be something to add. In the dorm, the staff couldn't find the correct key for the locker.

I stayed here 5 nights in mid-November as a solo female traveler, and truly loved the property - I do love a good concrete structure though! It keeps places cool and clean. Staff were abundant and super helpful. There are a few maps and guides in the lobby that give you ideas of what to do & see in and around Dumaguete. They were able to organize a trike for me to get to Dauin, about 45 minutes away (500 PHP). Live music on Friday nights. You can walk about 30 minutes to the center of town or take a shared trike for 10-15 pesitos. I took a Zoom interview at 5am on a Wednesday morning that didn’t crack, so I’d say internet is quite strong. Lots of tables & chairs to relax and chill, lots of cute lighting. The ROOMS/BED: MASSIVE! You could keep ALL your luggage at the foot of your bed if you want to, there’s so much extra space. I also appreciate the individual light, outlet, and bars to hang clothing/towels from. The rooms all have AC that can be adjusted as well. I liked how the bathrooms and showers are outside & well-ventilated, and soap is available. The restaurant Palmitas had a wide variety of food and dishes and open from morning to night, offering even snacks and coffee all day. While it may cost a bit more than other restaurants in the area, it’s great for convenience, has a great ambiance and an extensive menu.
Could use a few activities or events to bring travelers in the hostel together!

The bed is spacious and staff are accommodating.
Need curtain in beds for privacy and that light on each bed will not disturb others.

- Very helpful staff - quiet place for work with good internet - quite close to the airport - very clean accommodation (bed, bathroom, etc.) - on-site restaurant with a good menu selection (if a bit on the expensive side) where you get what you pay for
- the location is quite residential; downtown is definitely a tricycle ride away, and if you're looking for spots with events or variety in food you'd need to walk a fair bit (~5mins) to get to Escano/Northpoint - on-site restaurant does not have cheaper options (but you do get what you pay for) - no table in the room, making remote work there a bit uncomfortable (ie the tables are in the common area)

The staff (special call-out to Jom) are world class, incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. We also loved the open-air in-the-jungle minimalist design vibe, and the food and (especially) the coffee and shakes are excellent.
As acknowledged above we do like the minimalist design vibe but would nevertheless have appreciated a thicker, softer and more comfortable mattress with thicker blankets; although others may be fine with a thinner mattress & blankets.

We love the interior and overall vibe of the hostel. It’s like an old house transformed into a hostel with rustic and eco friendly architecture and design. You also get a 10% off on your first meal at their in-house restaurant and the food is actually great.
It is a bit cramped and the room we were supposed to stay in had a broken lock so we had to move rooms. They asked if we wanted to transfer but then we were already on our day tour by the time they did so we opted to just keep the room that they moved us in. There was also no fan in the room we got moved in so you either just have to readjust the ac temp or not have it on at all. If they put in a dresser or drawer in the rooms, it would be very beneficial for guests too especially long staying ones.

The location is on Hibbard Avenue, a 20-peso tricycle (a.k.a. “tuktuk”) ride from the airport, Silliman University’s main campus, the wild public market, or Rizal Boulevard with sweeping views of the sea. If you are up for adventure, try walking to discover things along the way - a fruit stand, a mom and pop restaurant, gorgeous flowers, and other curiosities, including how real people live in Dumaguete. A short walk leads to Cheese Stickan night market. The entirety of this hostel is a haven from the heat and city noise. I can only speak to the private “Apo” room on the ground floor. I prepared myself for a spartan block with walls porous to tropical life (insects, geckos, etc.). Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I found a high-ceilinged, sky-lit room with traditional wooden furniture, a refillable corked glass bottle for water, real glass tumblers, and an immaculate space with classy, cooling concrete floors with artful, not problematic, cracks for design. The AC and shower water were one-speed but somehow perfect. The room was always sufficiently cool and the water was always perfectly warm - not too cool or too hot. Towels were crispy clean, sheets classic white. The room was super quiet and super private. I had no distractions until I stepped out of there. This space is also attached to the Palmitas Kitchen & Bar - one of the best places in town to eat Western, Filipino, and fusion/international foods but with prices that won’t break the bank. Their Daing na Bangus is the best I ever had. On Friday night when the moon was bright, they even had a live acoustic singer/guitarist perform in the shaded courtyard. Finally, the staff here are golden - always smiling and not afraid to converse and be helpful and encouraging of whatever journey you happen to be on. I actually befriended several of them and enjoyed hearing about their lives beyond their jobs, where they work so hard. This makes Flying Fish feel like both a home and a getaway.
There was no desk and chair in the room but I kind of liked the enforced relaxation. Plenty of people were working in the clean, quiet common area outside but I wanted to be hermetically sealed in AC for work so ended up perched on the bed’s edge with my computer on one of the night tables. This isn’t a complaint but just a description of the setup and alternatives for working in the space.
