Staff were great. The place was super clean and a great location. The room was very small, smaller than what it looks in the photos. I travel from Australia so I have a big suitcase that I had nowhere to put, but I just unpacked and it was OK - but I had to be tidy! The gym and spa were great but I was disappointed to learn that I had to pay 10 euro every time I used the gym.

The first room they gave me, 109, had a window over a terrace with chairs and tables that had the potential of being non private and noisy. I was told that the terrace wasn't in use but I insisted on being moved to another room as I was there for a full week and needed to work. I am happy I was moved as I saw people out there talking and smoking. The room that I stayed with, 309, opened to the same terrace but from above, that was enough for my privacy.

Free Wifi worked well. Staff friendly and answered questions promptly before arrival. Room is as pictured. Lots of power points. Had a mini fridge. Air con worked well. Very quiet at night. Shower had good water pressure. Parking along street was ample as well as the secure parking was reasonably priced and we utilised that (it would be very narrow and tight getting into the underground, secure parking if you have a larger car though). Reception gave us a kettle, mugs and spoons to use in our room which was really appreciated. Would stay again if we were ever back in Aveiro.

We thought the hotel had a communal laundry (but it didn't). - we may have misunderstood this though.

The overall experience was nice. The room was small but comfortable, and it was spotless. The shower was excellent. And the location was perfect. I was going to work on the Aveiro Congress Center next day.

The breakfast was not perfect. For me, I missed several things. I like to have various cheeses and various peeled and cut fruit. I also thought the bread was not very varied. There was no table service, no cutlery, and no napkins on the table, so I had to look for everything. This may be the practice in three-star hotels (I've stayed in other three-star hotels and didn't experience these issues as much), but some details could be improved.

The main desk customer service was terrible! When we arrived on a Monday in February around 1pm we approached the front desk. The older gentleman barely looked up, didn’t greet us and very rudely informed us we could not check in until 3. I understand that is standard, to give staff a chance to clean room. However, the hotel was empty and it is a Monday in February! When we returned after 4pm, we were given only one key. And finally, no where does it say that guests of the hotel had to pay to use the fitness center yet there was a charge to use the fitness center.

Has to be the best ‘3-star’ hotel I’ve stayed in for the price I paid! The staff couldn’t have been nicer especially at reception and at the spa. I wish I could remember the names of the two girls that really stood out! The spa facilities and gym were brilliant and I used both at night and in the morning and again both spotless and first class. (Best steam room I’ve been in!). Breakfast was very nice and plenty of choice, bean to cup coffee machine top quality. Bar lounge area was beautiful and bar prices very reasonable. The room itself was spotless, warm and bed very comfortable, also had a mini bar and room safe. Just top marks all in all!

My stay in Hotel Afonso V was absolutely excellent. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, everyday was quite big choise. Additionally, I liked the design and look of the lobby and bar. It was very pleasant stay and I would defenitely go back there next time! Hotel is located in a very quiet and peaceful area. Pretty close to the city centre with attractions. Truly recommand it!

The place was easy to find. It is located in a quiet residential area, within walking distance of the historical city center. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I don't speak Portuguese, but everyone we met on our trip to Portugal could speak perfect English, and we didn't experience any issues. The room had everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The hotel is modern and well looked after and as nice as many 4* hotels we've visited. The staff were always friendly and helpful with any requests. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh and the staff provided some dairy free options when asked. We also spent some time at the spa which is well kept and has a huge jacuzzi! Although the hotel is not in the city centre it's only a 15 min walk which is ideal as it's quieter and you get to see everything by foot on your way.

The only thing I didn't like was the bed as it is very firm, however this is typical in Portugal so not unexpected. I've noticed newer hotels tend to offer memory foam toppers, I hope it becomes more common!

We were a large group. The hotel is very comfortable, clean, friendly staff. It’s only a 10 minutes walk from the town centre, walking along the canal, but it’s far enough to be in a quiet, residential area. The rooms were very clean, very comfortable bed, quiet air conditioner. We had a night cup in the bar and they had a good selection of drinks. The breakfast had a great variety of food on offer.

The only thing that I didn't like was the smell of the bedsheets. They smelled like they were used before we use them, and that was so unfortunate for that loving place.
