The staff were amazing (helpful, welcoming, attentive). The location was perfect (right on the canal in the heart of the nicest part of Aveiro). The room was large and light-filled. Bed comfortable. The upstairs lounge / common area was beautiful with a great view of the canal. The breakfast was great (lots of cold options and good scrambled eggs with bacon). Lastly, having an elevator was nice after too many stairs at other stays.

If you are driving it is hard to drop off your luggage in front of the hotel. There are rarely spots on a very tiny street. The staff was helpful to unload, but it was a bit stressful. The only other thing was that, in our room, we needed a dresser or a way to store out clothes. There was an armour, but it had limited space. We had to put our luggage on the floor and dress from there.

Very interesting old building. Our room was interesting. The shower was a bit odd, being out in the open. Basically when you enter the room, the shower is there. No privacy as there is really no bathroom. There is a WC. The room was pretty with a beautiful ceiling. There was a bar on the roof, it was an honesty bar, and a beautiful little terrace. The hotel seemed empty and gave me a feeling of "The Shining".. Oddly, but a good way.

We had to wait outside until 3:15, the doors were locked. This resulted in a parking ticket. I had accidentally left a rather large sealed chunck of cheese in the mini fridge. It was vacuumed sealed for our flight. I notified them a couple hours later and they said they already threw it away! That irritated me..

Beautifully done, with many creative touches, including the keys. Very large and comfortable room which was squeaky clean. Marta was incredibly pleasant and helpful. A very enthusiastic host. She made my arrival after a very long day a treat. Arriving a little stressed after a long day of travel, her spirited personality immediately helped me relax. She provided me with a list of restaurant options for dinner and booked me a gondola tour and a walking tour as well. I hope to go back someday and would highly recommend this boutique hotel!

This Boutique Hotel is a truly magical place with all the grandeur, opulence and majesty of small palace. Given the opportunity, use the stairs on at least one occasion to see the 18th century staircase with hand-painted walls and hand-carved stair banisters. The hotel has clearly gone to great lengths to retain many of the original features from ceiling moldings to the magnificent painting adorning the walls. From the moment we entered the foyer, we were treated with the warmest welcome and shown to our rooms. The personnel were the standout feature of this hotel, always smiling and gracious, willingly happy to oblige to every request. The hotel offers an “Honesty Bar” and breakfast room on the top floor with a large balcony overlooking the canal and the main street junctions. Our room (Joao Evangelista de Lima Vedal) was luxurious and very spacious with an extensive balcony featuring a jacuzzi on one side. A magnificent super-king-sized bed with rich cotton bedding, ample closet space and plenty of room for our cases. The bathroom was sumptuous with a large walk-in rain shower and double sinks. Having travelled much of the world, the 1877 Estrela Palace is probably one of the best stays we have experienced, and I would highly recommend a stay at the 1877 Estrela Palace.

There is absolutely nothing to criticise with this property. I am generally fussy and well travelled, and I can truly recommend the 1877 Estrela Palace for that unique and memorable experience.

Wow!!!! Honestly the most magnificent hotel I’ve stayed in recently. Our room had two bathrooms (love) and was beyond majestic (chandelier in the bathroom magnificent). The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was perfectly accommodating. We left our balcony door open and the chatter and laughter from the street was truly wonderful. The city was magical and the ambiance was beyond my expectation.

Hard to find ice in the hotel’s (magical) honesty bar. We had to call the night shift attendant on duty - But she delivered quickly and with a smile!

Amazing boutique hotel, great and very helpful staff, nice breakfast. Upon arrival we received a voucher for Ricardo’s Wine bar. We went there and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Great wine with expert recommendations, super nice food.

If I’d have to name an improvement, it’s that the hairdryer did not match the quality of the hotel. And the safe was not attached to the cupboard, which seems to miss the point of a safe.

The breakfast was delicious! The area of the hotel was perfect and in a great walking location to shopping and the canal boats. I really liked that when we checked in the staff gave us a history of the building and helped us to our rooms. The staff were amazing and very attentive.

The only issue was trying to find a spot in front to unload and load luggage. The parking deck is a little bit of a walk, but it is easy to get to and free.

This is a small boutique hotel with only 8 rooms however with full service 24/7. The property opened in 2022 after the carefull restoration of a city palace. The decoration is beautiful and the owners clearly spend a fortune on it, which shows from the attention to detail. We had a very spacious room, good beds, wonderful shower and as it is an old mansion, there are many beautiful details in the room like the shutters for the windows. Also beautiful city views and very bright. The breakfast is served on the rooftop wit the option to sit outside at the rooftop terrace. Very nice. Also very good breakfast offer. We asked the very friendly staff to make restaurant reservations for 2 nights and they recommended the better restaurants in Alveiro. We would surely recommend to stay here and it us worth the price.

There was nothing we did not like. Maybe 2 suggestions about the room; the safe is very small ( a laptop or iPad does not fit in ) and it is not attached to anything, so theoretically someone could just pick up the safe under its arm ?! And I would suggest to move to dispencers for the bathroom amenities to avoid single use plastics

Rooms were very nice, lavish and comfortable, particularly the superior suite with a balcony. It was very well sized and had all the amenities one could need. The hot tub in particular was a nice touch. The staff were lovely and very attentive, making sure we felt welcomed straight away upon arrival and offered services in booking local attractions as well as giving directions and advice on local restaurants. The location was very good and probably the most central in the city.

Junior suite was quite small though compared to the superior and didn’t have much storage or hanging space for clothing.

We loved the property and the location! Love the history of the building! The bed was very comfortable. The service was amazing! The breakfast in the morning was superb! It was on the third floor, which was also available throughout the day for drinks or snacks and you could sit inside or on the balcony. Loved that we had access to our garage. It was across the street in a short walk, but necessary if you have a car!
