Our room was exceptionally spacious with a large bathroom area. The decor was rather opulent and in keeping with the property's age and history (it was completely renovated in recent years). Breakfast was very acceptable and is situated in a particularly attractive area on the 3rd floor overlooking the canal.

One of the internal shutters could not be fully closed resulting in the room being too bright, making it difficult to sleep. Secondly, as we were staying for two nights, we were quite surprised on returning to the hotel on the second evening to find that the room had not been serviced (i.e. the bed had not been made etc).

Our stay in Aveiro was made extra special by being at 1877 Estrela Palace. As we were driving, we appreciated the contact we had prior to our arrival as to what we needed to do re parking. It all worked very well with pulling up outside the hotel, the assistance in unloading our bags & the instructions to the underground parking. Such a beautiful old building & such a fabulous renovation keeping the history of the building at the forefront - we can honestly say we have never stayed in a 'hallway' before - but that is exactly what our room was - a converted hallway & we absolutely loved it! All of the staff we dealt with were lovely & the buffet breakfast was great. We highly recommend staying here when visiting this classy town.

The staff was very helpful, attentive and friendly especially Marta who helped us solve a problem not related to our stay. The rooftop bar/patio was a lovely place to relax at the end of the day. The location was very central and it was easy to walk to restaurants and museums. And the design of a historical property made for an interesting stay.

Our room , the Junior suite was right above a busy street so it was very loud with the windows open. However, the sound proofing and the blackout doors helped with the noise at night. The configuration of the room made for little space to put toiletries. I would suspect that the other rooms might have more space available. And we were never able to get hot water in the shower.

Beautiful renovated historic building which feels like a palace. We had a junior suite with canal view which was luxurious. Unique modern update for the shower that fit with the historic features. Luxurious sheets. Nice people watching of the main action. Wonderful rooftop terrace with honesty bar. Good breakfast.

There was an odd tannic smell in the hall sometimes. I would choose the second floor or higher if possible because of the crowds but there are nice gauze curtains that let in light and preserve privacy.

The staff were amazing (helpful, welcoming, attentive). The location was perfect (right on the canal in the heart of the nicest part of Aveiro). The room was large and light-filled. Bed comfortable. The upstairs lounge / common area was beautiful with a great view of the canal. The breakfast was great (lots of cold options and good scrambled eggs with bacon). Lastly, having an elevator was nice after too many stairs at other stays.

If you are driving it is hard to drop off your luggage in front of the hotel. There are rarely spots on a very tiny street. The staff was helpful to unload, but it was a bit stressful. The only other thing was that, in our room, we needed a dresser or a way to store out clothes. There was an armour, but it had limited space. We had to put our luggage on the floor and dress from there.

Very interesting old building. Our room was interesting. The shower was a bit odd, being out in the open. Basically when you enter the room, the shower is there. No privacy as there is really no bathroom. There is a WC. The room was pretty with a beautiful ceiling. There was a bar on the roof, it was an honesty bar, and a beautiful little terrace. The hotel seemed empty and gave me a feeling of "The Shining".. Oddly, but a good way.

We had to wait outside until 3:15, the doors were locked. This resulted in a parking ticket. I had accidentally left a rather large sealed chunck of cheese in the mini fridge. It was vacuumed sealed for our flight. I notified them a couple hours later and they said they already threw it away! That irritated me..

Beautifully done, with many creative touches, including the keys. Very large and comfortable room which was squeaky clean. Marta was incredibly pleasant and helpful. A very enthusiastic host. She made my arrival after a very long day a treat. Arriving a little stressed after a long day of travel, her spirited personality immediately helped me relax. She provided me with a list of restaurant options for dinner and booked me a gondola tour and a walking tour as well. I hope to go back someday and would highly recommend this boutique hotel!

This Boutique Hotel is a truly magical place with all the grandeur, opulence and majesty of small palace. Given the opportunity, use the stairs on at least one occasion to see the 18th century staircase with hand-painted walls and hand-carved stair banisters. The hotel has clearly gone to great lengths to retain many of the original features from ceiling moldings to the magnificent painting adorning the walls. From the moment we entered the foyer, we were treated with the warmest welcome and shown to our rooms. The personnel were the standout feature of this hotel, always smiling and gracious, willingly happy to oblige to every request. The hotel offers an “Honesty Bar” and breakfast room on the top floor with a large balcony overlooking the canal and the main street junctions. Our room (Joao Evangelista de Lima Vedal) was luxurious and very spacious with an extensive balcony featuring a jacuzzi on one side. A magnificent super-king-sized bed with rich cotton bedding, ample closet space and plenty of room for our cases. The bathroom was sumptuous with a large walk-in rain shower and double sinks. Having travelled much of the world, the 1877 Estrela Palace is probably one of the best stays we have experienced, and I would highly recommend a stay at the 1877 Estrela Palace.

There is absolutely nothing to criticise with this property. I am generally fussy and well travelled, and I can truly recommend the 1877 Estrela Palace for that unique and memorable experience.

The Estrela Palace staff made you feel like you were the most important thing to them at all times. So number 1, the staff were phenomenal, the rooms were brilliant, the location was 2nd to none. I honestly had the best time and hope to return very soon!

If I'm being SUPER picky a more extensive breakfast selection but that's not really something I didn't like more something that would make it even better!

We loved our room. It was beautiful. The bed was comfy and the shower was great. it had great views looking out onto the street which had a light show on one of the historical buildings. The staff were very kind. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

We liked everything but it is an old mansion with original wooden floors so they did creak. It did not bother us . We thought it added to the character.
