The location inside the walled city was unbeatable, easy walk to shops and restaurants. The views from this pousada are amazingly beautiful. The staff could not be nicer, helpful, friendly, and dedicated to pleasing the guests. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a tub/shower combo, nice vanity, toilet, and bidet.
The facility is in desperate need of some renovations and love. It was apparently built in the 1950's or 60's, and it shows. The air conditioning was inefficient. It took 24 hours to finally cool the room to an acceptable maybe 24° C., while the thermostat was set at 16°. Luckily, the first night was extremely windy, so we slept with the balcony door open for a while. The hair dryer is an ugly, clunky box with a hose reminiscent of that on a vacuum cleaner, and was repaired with tape. Given the nightly rate and the name Pestana with a reputation to uphold, I thought it extremely disappointing.

Location: Exceptional. The hotel is located in the 17th century fortress with great views for the Minho river and Spain on the other bank of the river. Surrounded by the lovely old town constructed inside the fortress. The hotel is located at the Caminho de Santiago, so the daily rhythm is different – everything closes early and opens early according to the pilgrims’ needs. Do not expect any restaurant (including the hotel restaurant) open at 21:00. Access by car is challenging as you must cross three narrow gates to enter the fortress. Hotel: Huge common space with views for the river and fortifications. Regular size tables for reading on work available. Room: Large and comfortable, bag rack available electric sockets: available, but only one and not near the bed lighting: good, including a ceiling lamp Stairs/elevator: hotel rooms are located on the upper level, no elevator. Bed: large and very comfortable. Bathroom: Large, warm, enough space for toiletries. Breakfast: Good (but not excellent), sweets, fruits, ham and cheese. WiFi: Good. Staff: Nice and helpful. Parking: free street parking at the hotel walls.
Hotel: the hotel restaurant was closed for dinner.. Room: electric sockets: sockets near the bed occupied by lamps and not so easy to reach. Breakfast: I would expect vegetables in a 4-star hotel, scrambled eggs were cold.

The pictures of the Pousada do not make it justice. They really should change them to better ones. The room was fine, although I would change -actually I did change - some of the furniture around. The staff was exceptional, and the breakfast - which I always have in my room - was superb.
The Restaurant had fine food, but it needed a little bit more condiments. The flavors did not quite come through. The Restaurant Prices were absurd and very high for the taste of the food. Other than this, just a recommendation: if you have the furniture and the space, organize it well, it will improve a room so much more.

This was a fabulous place to stay. Friends who have walked the Camino recommended staying in Valenca instead of Tui and they were right. The pousada was inside a fortress overlooking the Minho River and our room had a gorgeous view. Very nice communal areas downstairs, a lovely patio right on the edge of the fortress walls, and a quaint but modernly appointed room. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. In the morning we got up early for the luggage service, as Portugal is one hour behind Spain. Sun was rising over the fortress walls so we had a beautiful view while the concierge hustled to make us coffee and croissants since we couldn’t stay for the general breakfast.

A stunning setting overlooking the river miño and Tui on the Spanish side. Rooms are comfortable and large with plenty of storage. Breakfast was included, unlike Spanish paradores, and was a good buffet.
Some of the electrics are a little on the old side in the rooms. The breakfast buffet was generally good but I missed natural yoghurt as all those on display had sugar added. The bar is a little expensive, but you are paying for that amazing view.

The location and the view from the balcony room was fantastic. Staying within the old walled city was a treat as we got to experience walking about in the quiet evening. The view was fabulous. I found the room to be smaller than expected and the balcony a bit basic and dusty for a high-end hotel. The staff were all kind and helpful. We stayed two nights to enjoy a day break during our Camino.

Biggest plus is the location inside the ancient fortress. Breakfast buffet was very good, the terrace and garden with the views are another value-add. Quiet street with hardly any traffic and all attractions of the town can be reached on foot.
We were charged € 7,50 for the storing of an ebike overnight, in a store-room which was not a garage but a workshop. This is a total rip-off, and we were traveling with 16 ebikes in total, so bike storage was proportionally more expensive than a room. This policy needs to be done away with and all bikers should be aware of this! The hotel needs a soft refurb overall and the rooms in particular, in one of the rooms the toilet drainage didn't work.

We had one of the best rooms, upstairs with a large balcony overlooking the river and Tui. Large room with a wall of windows, excellent views. Very comfortable. Very good breakfast, very attentive staff. Great to be inside the castle walls at night when everyone else has gone. Driving inside the castle to the hotel was fun, too.

We were the only people staying the first night. So the restaurant was closed at night and the breakfast was limited and disappointing. The following morning was much better.
