Staff were very helpful, with the General Manager, who is also the owner taking the lead. The family room we got was very specious, with the living room having an extra bed for the kids. The rooms were very clean and have a great view of the lake. The food was great. The location was ideal for us, with quiet surrounding. Generally, our stay there was awesome, and will definitely go back again.

The last 10kms of the road leading to the lodge is under construction. SUV car is a better option when planning your trip there, even though 'small cars' can still pass through.

My family and I have just spent 3 fantastic nights in Umutozo lodge. The location is genuinely breathtaking, on the shores of lake Kivu. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel totally at home. The staff are all exceptionally helpful and friendly. I can honestly say I have never stayed at a place that has such a joyful, communal feel to it. I had read that dinner is served communally and as a reserved Englishman I wasn’t sure if I liked that idea but in reality it was truly lovely. It gave my family and I an opportunity to meet fellow travellers from around the world and it made the whole experience so homely. We loved it. The owner Phillipe is extremely hands on and a wonderful host. A very interesting, humble man, it was a pleasure to meet him. Similarly Eric, the hotel manager is someone my family and I will never forget. A lovely man and very helpful. I would highly recommend visiting Rwanda and any visit to Rwanda would not be complete without a stay at Umutuzo lodge. To all the team, thanks for making our stay so special

Umutuzo Lodge is a true oasis and both a wonderful relaxing stop when travelling through Rwanda and a wonderful get-away from bustling Kigali for locals. Philippe and his team are wonderful hosts and really makes on feel at home. The food is excellent and the communally eaten dinner offers the great opportunity to get to know different people from all different walks of life. The activities offered are a great opportunity to give a relaxing holiday an active touch in a very much eco-touristic way. Philippe has great plans for the place and we will certainly come back to see them come into fruition!

Perfect place for calm and peaceful rest and harmony. The bed is super comfortable, and the view is magnificent with a beautiful sunset. The lake is clean and nice to swim in. All of the staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel at home. The food is very nice and the host Philip is taking good care and is an interesting company at dinnertime. They organise nice boattrips with a very capable guide.

The road to the Lodge is still under construction and adventures, but in no time, it will be done and perfect as well.

Firstly, of the last 10 km offroad, only last 2 kms is really bad..but still manageable..can be done via 2wd also, but not in rainy or muddy season. Now coming to the property, its really a hidden paradise..the moment you enter you are mesmerised by the views of the lake and serenity around..rooms are large, spacious and self sufficient with fridge, kettle, tea etc. The owner Philipe, is really a gentleman and a great story teller..u can talk to him for hours without getting bored..all the staff is really nice and the chef cooks amazing meals...there are many activities also that can be donesuch as kayaking, boat tripa to nearby islands etc, or jst swim in the lake in case u dnt want to do anything.. If given a chance, would love to stay here more frequently.

Beautiful views, very friendly staff and owner, nice communal mealtimes and a broad range of activities on offer (hiking, kayaking, boat trips etc.). We highly recommend Umutuzo Lodge as a base for exploring Lake Kivu.

It will be even better when the construction work of the new restaurant and pool is finished. Small improvements could be made in servicing the rooms (removing empty bottles and waste etc..). The meals were good but perhaps a bit samey. But these are minor things - we were very satisfied with the place.

our stay was fantastic, the view, the room, the food - incredible. this place has a very calm, mellow atmosphere the room and view really look like the pictures (careful, the last image is a blue print, parts of the lodge complex are still under construction). there are a few activities you can book through the lodge which are well organized and easy to plan. we did the coffe tour with one way by boat and can highly recommend it! Philippe, the host and the staff in general were super friendly and helpful with any questions we had. we even got to enjoy dinner with the host which was lovely!

The road to the lodge is an adventure! Make sure you have a 4x4 car, ideally a high set jeep since there are big rocks and holes in the street. The bumper at the beginning of the driveway is impossible to cross without scratching the bottom of the car. Maybe the driveway could be evened out a bit.

Perfect stay we will remember. . A wonderful welcome from Philippe, Éric and the whole team. Impeccable comfort, a breathtaking view and the pleasure of an outdoor shower, especially at sunset. Lots of details and little touch in the room. Friendly and delicious meals prepared by the chef: in short, a must along Lake Kivu for perfect relaxation. Many activities are also possible and offered (sporting or cultural). We enjoyed the visit to the Kinunu coffee washing station and a hike along the Congo Nile hiking trail. Highly recommended!

The room was brilliant, excellent design with lots of high quality wood construction. Very spacious with large uber comfortable bed. The views over Lake Kivu were spectacular. Such a tranquil and relaxing setting. Tip top personal service from all staff. Great to eat at night with Philip the owner. Awesome breakfasts and really high quality dinners. Highly recommended and three days not enough.
