This is the perfect hotel for those visiting Arequipa as part of a tour of southern Peru’s many attractions, especially tours of Colca Canyon. The small but clean and comfortable rooms are in a quadrangle on two floors, overlooking a beautiful garden, and the staff are extremely friendly, efficient and accommodating. There is also a cheap, quick and efficient laundry service. The location: a ten-minute walk from the main square and all the other attractions in the charming historic centre of the city. Best of all is the amazing value for money.

We have literally nothing bad to say about this hotel.

The location was convenient to the historic area of Arequipa. The staff were super helpful and friendly. They arranged taxis, gave walking directions, provided laundry service with quick turnaround, and were available at all hours. Breakfast was also good. The rooms face a central garden which blocks outside noise at night and is pretty. The room was very clean. It suited our needs and we would stay there again.

There were a couple maintenance issues such as blinds that didn’t function properly and a shower head that would not stay in position. But nothing major.

The room was lovely - large with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage for our bags. Nice bathroom with good hoy shower. Lovely garden area and good location, only three or four blocks from the main Square and historical buildings. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they happily stored our luggage overnight while we went to Colca Canyon. Also got our washing done for a reasonable price - the hotel charges per kilo as local laundry services do, not per item as most hotels did.

Breakfast could have more variety. It got a bit monotonous after the first couple of days.

We absolutely loved our spacious room and the fabulously comfortable beds. There were sockets and tables by the beds as well as lights and there were other lights, chairs and a desk in the room. There was also plenty of space for clothes and cases. There is no a/c, just a fan above the door but we found that to be more than enough. The rooms surround a beautiful garden with lots of tables and chairs to relax in and you can have breakfast there. Speaking of breakfast, there was a good selection of fresh fruit, cereals, juices, your choice of eggs and two hot dishes as well as bread, ham, cheese, jam and most importantly strong coffee. One of the best spreads we've seen in Peru. The location is a 10 minute walk from the Plaza so it's very quiet and relaxed at night. Staff were all great, happy to help and very friendly and mostly spoke great English. A special shout out to the cleaning lady who was unfailingly cheerful and gave us advice on how to counteract the effects of the altitude. Bottom line, if we're back in Arequipa, we'll definitely be staying here again.

Our one complaint was one that is common in older buildings and that is that there is a smell from the drains in the bathroom. There was also a leak from the middle of the shower that caused the bathroom floor to get wet but a spot of grout will doubtless fix that. It seemed to come from the middle. There was no to-go breakfast offered for the days that we had to leave early, which was disappointing and could be easily rectified.

Located in a quiet street, big hotel with nice rooms. Bed was super confortable, the bathroom was the best I had in Peru : detachable showerhead, hot water and a bathmat (rare in Peru). Breakfast is great, lots of fruit. And the sunny courtyard is nice in the morning.

They host cooking classes twice a day, right above the courtyard, and it’s super loud. So don’t expect to hang out on the sunbeds after 11am.

The garden is a little Oasis right in the center of Arequipa. Lovely rooms, very high quality. Early check-in was available for a small extra fee - definitely saved my day after arriving with the Peru Hop night bus at 6am. Great choice to stay in Arequipa, especially when travelling with Peru Hop (as it is their main pickup/dropoff point in Arequipa). Also very good value for money.

The location was good. A short walk to the centre. Lots of stuff nearby. The garden is a glorious bonus. A nice peaceful place to sit and read or just relax. My room was huge with a huge bed and a fridge. On the ground floor too. The breakfast was plentiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. They changed their mind about being able to do my laundry but let my dry my smalls and wet trainers (from Colca canyon) on the roof all the same. WiFi was good too.

I had mixed messages about laundry and early breakfast. I was told it could be done and then I was told it couldn’t be done. They padlock the front door from time to time and so you have to wait until staff appear. There was only one loo roll in my bathroom. Plenty of soap and shampoo but no spare loo roll.

Really comfy beds, good facilities and super friendly staff. Located about 10 minute walk from the main square in Arequipa. Definitely the nicest place we stayed in our 2 week trip around Peru.

Early check in was really helpful, but the communication about this was a bit inconsistent. We were told via message before we arrived that this was 60 soles. Then in a later message we were told this was 35 soles per person (70 in total). When we arrived however the receptionist told us it was 100 soles for early check in.

Very friendly staff who were always happy to help. Activities easily arranged via the reception desk. Beautiful courtyard garden, oasis of peace in the middle of a noisy city. Very comfortable bed and nice shower.

The shower drain was enormously clogged so with even a short shower, the water would pool so high it even flooded the bathroom at one point. Also, we asked for an extra towel, and they provided us with it but did charge us 30 soles.

Natalie the proprietor was very hospitable and charming. She accommodated us even though we booked only minutes before our arrival. She was helpful and compassionate when we ran into difficulties with our bank cards. We really enjoyed the breakfasts on offer which we ate in the central courtyard which is a virual oasis. A sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The location is great to the central plaza. We would most definitely recommend Casa de Avila for your stay in Areqipa. We were there for 2 whole days.

The hot water in the shower did take quite some time to come through, maybe it is a Peruvian anomaly as it was the dame in our accommodation in Lima.
