Best hotel I stayed at in Japan. A nice beautifully decorated building very close to the JR station and ferries. Great views, amenities for cyclists like bike racks in the lobby. Great breakfast! Great restaurants in walking distance. Room was a little bigger than you usually get in Japan. An absolutely perfect spot for someone spending some time on the Shimanami Kaido and exploring the inland sea.
Only complaint was waiting to get laundry done and slow driers. I think investing in good laundry machines (The ones that can message you when they're done!) would be a big plus for the types of folks who would use this hotel.

Great location! Great size for repacking my luggage to prep for my flight back to Canada after 3 weeks in Japan. Also, handled my luggage that I got shipped ahead with care and had it waiting for me at the front desk.
There was a strong mildew smell in the spotlessly clean bathroom, yet the bathroom looked like it had very recently been fully redone/refreshed! I examined the shower and saw that there was no caulking between the tub and the wall, so water would've been going right down into the crevice. I would've given this feedback at checkout, but I left early and used the checkout machine.

The room was fresh and clean, not super-small. The breakfast was exceptional for an inexpensive business hotel. There was that nice lady in the restaurant who really made my stay brighter - she was welcoming, helpful, and did something useful all the time, like a busy bee caring for people around. Like, it's the first time I see someone of a business hotel staff put so much passion into their routing job, applause!
The view was nice, but the windows had that safety net and allowed just a narrow opening. Suboptimal. Why are you so afraid of visitors opening windows? We come to Japan to enjoy our stay, not to jump from heights or something.

I have stayed in many many hotels in Japan over the years and I'm taking the time to review this one because it was excellent. First and foremost all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It really was great service with a very genuine smile. Second, for the size of the hotel and the room cost, the buffet breakfast was great - lots to choose from and all of good quality. And finally, an excellent location close to transport and the sea. Do pay the extra and get a sea view room, the working port is a marvel to watch over a cup of tea.

Great location. Loved watching the comings/goings along the quay/channel from the window. Close to station and temples walk, and if doing Shiminami Kaido cycle ride - close to ferry and bike hire places. Very helpful and genuinely welcoming staff. Good breakfast.
Whilst I loved this hotel (as above), it was the most expensive hotel (of six) I stayed at during my visit to Japan and I do not feel there was anything really significant to set it apart and justify this, so it is simply on those grounds that I rate it less well in this domain (as above) and this is why I score it an 8, it would otherwise have been a 9.

The location was central to all my needs before starting the Shimanami Kaido. The hotel is basically next to the train station, a 7-11, the bike rental place and the ferry to use at the start of the course. Room was spacious, with a water view, powerful AC and high water pressure. You can also walk, or take a cable car up to the main temple park with a short walk. Solid breakfast buffet and easy luggage shipping to my next hotel at the end of the ride.
Cannot find a fault with this place.

The hotel is well located and the staff are excellent. We had a mix up with our room on arrival but they sorted it out very efficiently. The breakfast caters mostly for Japanese visitors. Parking is very close but you have to pay for it. For UK visitors, the hotel is similar to a Premier Inn in style but much nicer in how it feels to be there. Onomichi is a brilliant place to visit and the Sakura Hotel is a great place to stay.

I stayed at this hotel a night prior to my Shimanami Kaido cycling trip. The room was extremely clean and comfortable and I had a lovely view of the river. The breakfast buffet spread was excellent with both international and Japanese cuisine, salads, and desserts. On day of my cycling trip, I woke up early to rent the bike I wanted and was able to park it at the hotel before finishing my breakfast and setting off.
Honestly nothing. I was very satisfied with the stay.

I had a very comfortable basic room ('Single room with Sea View') on the 8th (top) floor with a double bed and a fantastic view of the port, the sea, and the islands opposite. The desk was at the window; if I'd have had to actually do any work there it would have been really hard with that view to gaze at! It faced east, and the sunrise over the water was beautiful. Bathroom was great, with a full tub and strong shower. The town has a working port with small ferries and some factory or mill across on the islands, so there is some industrial noise during the day but everything quietens down fully at night, no night-time disturbances. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent location close to Onomichi station for local trains (if you need to take the shinkansen, it's easiest to get a local train to Fukuyama and transfer rather than schlep over to the Shin-Onomichi station). Onomichi runs along the coast and the hotel is at the eastern edge of the interesting older part of town, but it's an easy walk to the western edge. Easy access to the old covered shopping precinct, the temple walk, and the ropeway up to the top of the hill. Lots of restaurants handy to the hotel, including a great old-school ramen diner in the station building.
The bedding was a bit basic - synthetic blanket, sheets were not great quality, though they were cotton and of course they were clean - but the bed itself was very comfortable. I didn't get breakfast at the hotel mainly because it seemed a bit expensive and I found a cheaper very highly rated breakfast place that does set Japanese breakfasts just across the road (check google maps).

Great location and lovely staff, perfect sea views from our corner room, large room (by Japanese standards), lovely having breakfast outside overlooking the sea.
Not a huge complaint, but there was little shelving in the room or bathroom, so little space to put our toiletries etc. Our biggest issue was the price - the most expensive hotel we stayed at in our 2 weeks in Japan, and all hotels around the same standard. We had imagined this hotel would have offered something ‘special’ due to the high rate. But we had a pleasant 2-night stay, regardless!
