The staff at this property were exceptional! Friendly, warm, smiling, and they were always conducting themselves in a professional manner. They went over and above to make our stay a most pleasant experience. The location is incredible, views outstanding. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The meals were generous and varied. We enjoyed relaxing in the lounge area and outside on the terrace. The walk up to the top is picturesque and we were given fresh organic apricots to sustain us on the way. Definitely recommend Sama Wakan Heritage Homes.

Location & location. Splendid view from outside terrace. Stay in traditional style rooms spread over 4 houses in the hamlet. Special experience that you can only arrive by 3 km unpaved dusty mountain road (forbidden for mormal car). Good breakfast and dinner. The highlight is the 45 minutes (×2) hike over a paved scenic path with steps, between gardens and palmtrees overlooking the deep valley below.

Very basic comfort in a small room, which was OK for me, but does not at all match the price. Hotel overcharges transport by 4x4. A driver at the end of the paved road offered us spontaneously the ride up at about half the price (8 OMR negociated); we had a free lift down.

Breakfast and dinner were included which was an unexpected bonus. Room was delightful and we had use of a sitting room with wonderful views of the mountain. Very clean with a boutique feel lovely towels. Air con was good and it was just a lovely room very authentic touches. Very attentive personal service from the staff and chef. We had a lovely dinner and breakfast on the terraces. A rustic hotel in a unique place. Lovely trail up to a high spot in Waken is just by the hotel.

We had to pay for a 4x4 pick up to take us up to the village, initially we thought the price of was excessive. We realised however that dinner and breakfast were included in the cost of the hotel so it seemed more than fair. We were glad we booked the 4x4 with the hotel as it was not for a journey I or my husband would want to do as its very high and an uneven bumpy road through the mountains. Locals at the car park also wanted more!

The location was fantastic, the room was lovely and very clean. The dinner was nice and very plentiful. The breakfast was simple but plenty of it and the omelette was cooked to order. Nescafé coffee for breakfast but lovely coffee and hot chocolate to buy extra, after at the bar. The service was exceptional and nothing too much trouble. Anticipated that it was going to be a bit chilly in the evening and as seating for meals is outside, brought warm clothes. Outside heating was also on, so quite cosy.

Just to mention the rooms of the bedrooms are not soundproof and we could hear our neighbours conversation next door when we were trying to have an early night after walking most of the day! However luckily they were quiet by 11pm. Apart from this, all was really good.

Located in a small mountain village, it is recommended for active hikers.There is a well-maintained nature trail, with a presentation of local farming, a walk to a lookout or a... - Stunning panorama once you get up to the village. (4x4 off-road vehicle required, or you can take a local lift from the end of the tarmac road) - A friendly and cooperative welcome. Dinner and breakfast are all-you-can-eat buffet, varied and delicious. More than you would expect in a small local village. - In the evening we enjoyed the view and dinner from a very cosy heated terrace. - The room was fair, clean and tidy. In keeping with local tradition, there is no glazing in the windows, but there are blackout blinds and electric heating.

We loved the family room, a separate room for the kids, interleading. The location is gorgeous, the staff super helpful and friendly. The breakfast and dinner meal were great, far more than we needed. The dinner meal was delicious!

There isn't loads to do with kids other than the walk which was lovely - this was to be expected. Make sure to take toys / books / devices if going with kids!

We had a wonderful stay at SAMA Wakan, the rooms were spotless and in line with the beautiful surrounding mountains and village.The staff were super friendly, they lifted our stay to another level. Dinner and breakfast were superb! The open fire heather is a welcome warmth fitting for an evening in the mountains. I highly recommend it if you are in the area to spend the night.Wakan village and it's hikes also come highly recommended

The remote location was exactly what we were looking for. A place to unwind, get away from things and explore the local mountainous area. The fact the resort is reached by 4x4 added an ‘adventure’ feel to the holiday. This did not disappoint. The steep climb to the property was amazing, even when meeting another car en route. We were welcomed by Not at the front office and Mizan assisted us with our luggage. Our 2 boys (15 & 18) had a double room and my wife and I had the Suite. Both rooms were designed to local Omani norms and it had a quirky, hide away feel. Absolutely lovely. Service could not have been better. Not and Mizan assisted us throughout and were so helpful throughout our 3 day 2 night stay. Food was delicious, Breakfast: eggs, beans, sausage, pancakes, french toast, toast, jam, honey, fruit, juice. Dinner: Biryani, veg, lentils, breads, humus, salads, deserts- all served with a smile. Hiking- there are numerous hiking trails from the Heritage Homes. Some are steep and require good hiking skills. The Oman Hiking trails W24a, W24b and W11d can be accessed. The fact there is no WiFi was great to get away from everything and not be contacted and be tempted by technology 😉. Peace and quiet is an understatement- and great looking at the breathtaking views. All in all an amazing place for R&R and well worth the drive from Abu Dhabi. Already planning our next trip…..

Nothing- just wished we’d stayed longer.

This place is all about location. Stunning setting perched on the mountainside in Wakan village. You can sip tea on the balcony at sunset or sunrise and watch the mountains go orange. This is the only accommodation in the village and more upmarket than what I normally prefer but the rooms are great, staff are attentive, a very good and filling dinner and breakfast is included, and it is well placed for the hikes in the area. I spent 2 nights here so I could do the long and arduous hike up to Jebel Akdar and back.

The location is correct in Google Maps but incorrect in the map app within booking.com. I ended up going to the final village of Al Qurah but the property is in Wakan village. Turn right at the top of the hill and go up 2 or 3 more switchbacks into Wakan village.
