Very convenient from the station, we had a nice view of the sea. Room was a decent size. Onsen is open to guests until 1am so if, like us, you’re a little wary of the Japanese “au naturel” approach you can go later when there are no day-trippers and it’s quieter (for example we went at 10.30 and were the only ones for the first half hour). For us it was an opportunity to have a bit more of a traditional Japanese type stay and it fit the bill. Note there is signage at the Onsen saying no tattoos- I have a small one that I covered with a large bandaid and had no issues, although your mileage may vary so might be worth checking if you’re worried

Not clearly identified off the street and it’s set back a little - the hotel signage is all in Japanese so it was harder to find than you’d expect. We were in the older wing which feels and looks a little worn and dated. Not really an issue, just something to be aware of Also, it is hilly around there so coming back from the beach is a workout!

We wanted to experience a private Onsen and booked Yuyado Ichibanchi after considerable research. The hotel is very conveniently located in central Atami, 5 minutes from the train station. The hotel has a traditional vibe that is serene and peaceful. Our room was exceptional - space wise - it was huge with a living area, separate bedroom, and a open space that led to the garden. We had a huge lounger to relax outside and our own private bath away from everyone else. The outdoor shower was a nice touch and we enjoyed multiple soaks outside. The meals provided (dinner and breakfast) were exceptionally fresh and tasty, with a large selection of food plated exceptionally well.

The indoor bathroom and bedroom fixtures were slightly dated and could use a slight modernization.

Everything was perfect. From the room, to the view, as well as the delicious food, the beautiful onsen and very welcoming staff. An amazing (not so hidden) gem in Atami!

If you're not getting dropped off by car, you'll have to brace yourself for some steep inclines before arriving, but I'm honestly nitpicking at this point :)

The room I booked had its own hot spring bath with a view of the city. It had a luxurious feel. Staff were very friendly and professional. I liked that there was a souvenir shop with a small selection of snacks and other things like Atami bath powder, retro Japanese toys etc. Yuyado Ichibanchi is located very close to the shopping street and the train station so it's in a very convenient location.

Excellent location from the station. Lovely in house onsens which open early and late for hotel guests. The staff were incredibly helpful in helping use post out luggage and being flexible with breakfast and dinner. They had also set up the rooftop for fireworks viewing meant no we had an unobstructed view!

The bathroom was a little tired as expected of a property that age, but was perfectly functioning.

amazing views, friendly staff, not crowded Onsen (we stayed a Friday night, it seems busier the next day), walking distance to the Atami station and right next to a charming strip of shops and restaurants, amazing meals in a private room, option of western or Japanese rooms (we chose one of each for our family of four) and everyone was happy! in the morning we walked to the beach and grabbed snacks at the convenience store. a wonderful atmosphere all around. we took the train from Atami down the coast to Jogasaki Kaigan (about 50 min) and walked 20 min to the lighthouse and suspension bridges - stunning!!!

There's hardly a Ryokan in Atami that is more conveniently located. Roll out of the train station, pass through the shopping arcade, and there you are. It's quite big, but their customer service is above average even on the (lofty) Ryokan scale. The food is--of course--gorgeous. In fact, if you can manage, book some seafood extras, since Atami has some of the finest fish in Japan available. Don't miss it. If you are bashful and worry about the Onsen-typical naked bathing (or if you want to bathe together as a couple), book a room with a private hot spring water bathtub. It works great, and you can enjoy the ocean view while soaking in the hot water. Just remember to start filling it early, it will take an hour or so until it's full.

Just minor nitpicks: the building substance is a tad old, and it shows in the corridors and halls. The rooms themselves are completely fine, though. Also, the restaurant is a bit inconveniently located in the annex.

Getting to the Ryokan was very close to the JR Atami station. Google map direction showed different, so make sure you know where the ryokan is before getting there. We decided to reserve the family room which had the private onsen right outside. The 1 year old toddler loved that onsen and it wasn't too hot for him. If you have little ones, I recommend getting the large family room with the private onsen. The area where you eat dinner and breakfast is not in your room, but in a different private area which was really delicious. We will definitely come back if we stop in Atami.

The family style room was great but had little ants around the refrigerator area. There wasn't that many but can tell they were coming from somewhere. Other than that, the experience was great.

We loved the bath in our rooms, the spaciouness of the rooms. The food was amazing and gave us a true taste of Japanese cuisine. Wearing kimonos was fun. We enjoyed walking down to the beach and back up through the town.

The onset was great even though it’s a bit small. The quality of the foods at breakfast and dinner was delicious.

The room wasn’t completely clean after making up. Found something weird on the bed.
