The purpose of my visit was to climb Scafell Pike..............a bucket list ambition. The Strands Inn was ideally located for the start-point of the climb near Wasdale Head. The accommodation was nothing special but that does not mean it was not adequate. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for showers. Breakfast was a great 'full English' and the Dinners were very generous and wholesome. The atmosphere at this hostelry was buzzing ..........what more could one ask for. The Strands Inn is under new management and David, the new owner, clearly knows his stuff and I wish them well in further promoting this great location.

There was nothing to draw attention to.

Location at the entrance to Wasdale is brilliant for walks in the southwest fells. It is a classic Lakeland Inn, rustic and atmospheric. The food in the bar was very good and the staff very accommodating and friendly. It was really handy that they could prepare a packed lunch for me which saved a visit to the shop a couple of villages away. The room was compact but the beds comfortable and the shower room spotlessly clean.

Breakfast was good but not quite as impressive as other places I’ve stayed. There was a mistake with our food order one evening but it was corrected and a couple of free drinks given to us which was a nice gesture. The curtains are pretty thin and with an east facing room it’s a good job we are early risers!

The location is perfect, it feels secluded but still close enough to a shop & lake spot! I personally loved that it was split into two and had lots of benches outside. The sun was shining and it is very quaint and cute! Can imagine it has a even better vibe in the summer when both pubs are open! - Although i did love how quiet it was. The staff were also very nice & helpful We ended up reserving a spot for dinner on arrival which was perfect as it meant we didn't have to do any more traveling that day and was close to the rooms. The rooms themselves had everything you needed such as hot drink supplies & towels. Super hot and powerful shower was an amazing start to the day followed by breakfast with the gang ready to take on Scafell <3

I honestly loved everything no complaints!

Good food, good location , good parking, nice bathroom ,friendly staff, lovely breakfast, decent pint - very comfy bed. Tea coffee shampoo body wash and soap. Would definitely book again. Also a good range of pillows for all forms of sleeping positions . I usually have to take my own but forgot my pillow. It didn't matter. The bath was an added bonus to relax your muscles after hiking!

Nothing really, for the price I was expecting rough and ready with basic facilities and a bad back after an awful night's sleep, but got quite the opposite. Wasn't sure if we could have food as we hadn't prebooked but they fitted us in and it was very busy.

My friend’s bed mattress wasn’t comfortable so we inform them and they changed it when we came back after a long hiking day. This made our stay really pleasant. They really took care of our comfort. I was highly impressed by their vegetarian food for dinner. I was doubtful if I’m gonna enjoy the meal but HANDS DOWN to take care of people’s choice. I had green (Thai) curry with vegetables (I’d call it chef’s magic), yellow veg peri rice, chutney and pappadum. While We stick with halal choice and having this vegetarian meal in the remote area is like a blessing for us!! 10/10 💯💯✨💖🎊

Amazing area to stay if you're here for the walking. Wast Water lake is just down the road and the trails for Scarfell Pike are a short journey away. Nearly a 200 Yr old property which is traditional in its decor. You have the basic necessities, not luxury. We were there for 3 nights during the snowy cold snap recently, and i requested an extra bed cover, which was delivered quickly. Unfortunately, the bed was too firm for our liking. Owner and all staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great, evening meals of high quality produce and very tasty. The owner was very generous with a gift of a bottle of champagne as we were having a family celebration. Would stay again as a fabulous location.

The decor of the rooms can be forgiven due to the age and style of the building, but the mattress was far too hard.

Lovely helpful staff took good care of me, were fun to talk to and gave me a cuppa while I waited for my taxi as it was a very cold day - 1 staff member even offered to drive me back to the station if I had any issues getting through to a taxi company, for which I was extremely grateful. Lively and welcoming atmosphere with friendly regulars who made me feel at home, invited me into their conversations and even gave me some (much needed) blister plasters. Evening meal (veggie curry) and breakfast (with veggie "haggis") were both hearty and delicious, as was the cider. Very cosy room in great condition (which perfectly matched the online photos), comfy bed and stunning views from the bedroom window. Can't wait to go back when I'm next in the area!

No mobile phone signal (which isn't their fault as it's just a remote area), but they very kindly allowed me to use their landline to call the taxi company.

Check in was straight forward, the staff were helpful and went out their way to accommodate our change of our initial evening meal booking, plenty of parking. We stayed in the Screes inn opposite the pub, the room was clean and bed was comfy. The evening meal in the pub was well cooked and really tasty, there's a great choice of drinks too, the pub has a nice atmosphere and is cosy . Breakfast was cooked well and tasted great, the location is good for walking and hikes in the surrounding area, We would stay again.

Chosen because of its great location for the walks we planned. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was good with a good choice for the evening and breakfast. The rooms we all had (there were five of us on this walking holiday) were comfortable and clean and well appointed. On site parking was a bonus.

Nothing really disappointed. Those who had rooms above the bar could hear the bar noise but it stopped as soon as the bar closed and then the place was as quiet as a church!

Food was good, of course the location is outstanding, the staff were helpful and friendly. I very much liked the bar area and its rustic charm.

My room was cozy and warm but if I may say the decor was tired and could do with an upgrade. That being said the room was clean and bed made up with actual sheets which is a welcome novelty these days. One thing though. The loo paper dispenser is directly above the loo so you have to scoot in a bit sideways to sit down with out hitting your knees.
