The location is perfect, it feels secluded but still close enough to a shop & lake spot! I personally loved that it was split into two and had lots of benches outside. The sun was shining and it is very quaint and cute! Can imagine it has a even better vibe in the summer when both pubs are open! - Although i did love how quiet it was. The staff were also very nice & helpful We ended up reserving a spot for dinner on arrival which was perfect as it meant we didn't have to do any more traveling that day and was close to the rooms. The rooms themselves had everything you needed such as hot drink supplies & towels. Super hot and powerful shower was an amazing start to the day followed by breakfast with the gang ready to take on Scafell <3
I honestly loved everything no complaints!

Good food, good location , good parking, nice bathroom ,friendly staff, lovely breakfast, decent pint - very comfy bed. Tea coffee shampoo body wash and soap. Would definitely book again. Also a good range of pillows for all forms of sleeping positions . I usually have to take my own but forgot my pillow. It didn't matter. The bath was an added bonus to relax your muscles after hiking!
Nothing really, for the price I was expecting rough and ready with basic facilities and a bad back after an awful night's sleep, but got quite the opposite. Wasn't sure if we could have food as we hadn't prebooked but they fitted us in and it was very busy.

My friend’s bed mattress wasn’t comfortable so we inform them and they changed it when we came back after a long hiking day. This made our stay really pleasant. They really took care of our comfort. I was highly impressed by their vegetarian food for dinner. I was doubtful if I’m gonna enjoy the meal but HANDS DOWN to take care of people’s choice. I had green (Thai) curry with vegetables (I’d call it chef’s magic), yellow veg peri rice, chutney and pappadum. While We stick with halal choice and having this vegetarian meal in the remote area is like a blessing for us!! 10/10 💯💯✨💖🎊

Amazing area to stay if you're here for the walking. Wast Water lake is just down the road and the trails for Scarfell Pike are a short journey away. Nearly a 200 Yr old property which is traditional in its decor. You have the basic necessities, not luxury. We were there for 3 nights during the snowy cold snap recently, and i requested an extra bed cover, which was delivered quickly. Unfortunately, the bed was too firm for our liking. Owner and all staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great, evening meals of high quality produce and very tasty. The owner was very generous with a gift of a bottle of champagne as we were having a family celebration. Would stay again as a fabulous location.
The decor of the rooms can be forgiven due to the age and style of the building, but the mattress was far too hard.

Lovely helpful staff took good care of me, were fun to talk to and gave me a cuppa while I waited for my taxi as it was a very cold day - 1 staff member even offered to drive me back to the station if I had any issues getting through to a taxi company, for which I was extremely grateful. Lively and welcoming atmosphere with friendly regulars who made me feel at home, invited me into their conversations and even gave me some (much needed) blister plasters. Evening meal (veggie curry) and breakfast (with veggie "haggis") were both hearty and delicious, as was the cider. Very cosy room in great condition (which perfectly matched the online photos), comfy bed and stunning views from the bedroom window. Can't wait to go back when I'm next in the area!
No mobile phone signal (which isn't their fault as it's just a remote area), but they very kindly allowed me to use their landline to call the taxi company.

This is the most friendly place you can imagine, the staff are are welcoming and obviously enjoy their jobs. It has just been taken over by a new owner, a Canadian gentleman, who took time to tell us about his surprising history with this pub. It's safe to say that it's in good hands. We were there mid week for 3 nights and slept exceptionally well in our comfortable bed which was actually in The Screes across the road (the 2 pubs are operated as one business). The shower was hot and powerful, ideal after a long day. We ate in the pub each evening and the freshly cooked food was excellent, VIcki certainly makes a great pie. The micro brewery behind The Strands turns out a range of beers which are served on draught, something for every palette, so that's another base covered. We had a packed lunch on one of our days which was very good and good value too. Food is only served in The Strands at the moment and if you want to eat there in the evening you definitely need to book. Breakfast is served in The Strands and is of lovely quality, each cooked freshly and there is pretty much everything that you could want. Nether Wasdale itself is a one road affair with a few houses , the 2 pubs, a church and a well run campsite so you are guaranteed a quiet night of undisturbed sleep. We will return next year for some more walking in the area and look forward to seeing how the new owner has begun to update and preserve what is already a cracking place.

All the staff were really helpful. Rooms were clean, cosy, and warm. Food was exceptional with a good variety of drinks available. The location was perfect and was also pet friendly for dog lovers. Even other customers were friendly and most likely due to their own satisfaction. Would highly recommend a stay here and will definitely visit again. Very good value for money.
Not staying longer due to work and family commitments. We stayed at the end of January and it was perfect, I'd also like to see how nice it is during the summer

Beautiful setting. The room we stayed in was spacious and full of original features. The bed was incredibly comfortable and had a nice bath and shower. The breakfast was the perfect set up to a day in the hills and the staff were all very friendly and attentive.
It’s what you expect from an old school building - it has quirks but nothing that detracted from our stay. Bonus that the staff were really nice, the food in the restaurant was hearty and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

After a day in the hills the whole vibe of here was fantastic. The great local beers, food and relaxed atmosphere make for a lovely evening. The pub is so busy with food make sure you book a table as they are full very quickly. The food was great and I recommend the steak and ale pie with a few pints of their own beers. The staff and owner are so helpful and the locals are very friendly. A great night in a traditional pub. My room was in the Scree pub opposite which was really quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was lovely back in the main pub. Will certainly stay here again.
