I had a single room which was really spacious and perfect for me. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room spotless. I also appreciated having separate bins for waste and recycling. Breakfast was lovely every day and a good hearty option to fuel my walks. I loved the location too. Walkable distance to Wast Water and only 16 mins to the base of Scafell Pike. The owners and staff were lovely and friendly. I had dinner at the pub one night which was excellent and a very generous portion for little me. They also had non-alcoholic beers available which was great. I did worry that being above the pub it would be really loud but other than the expected background noise it was basically silent by about 10.30/11pm which was ideal for me. I quite enjoyed hearing activity downstairs in the late evening. Plenty of parking which was free (thank you!!) too.
My singular gripe was that there wasn't enough water pressure for a shower. I like my showers hot and if i mixed the cold tap it increased pressure but then the water was too cold. Others may be ok with it but I like a hot shower and it resulted in a rather sad dribble from the shower head :(

Just returned from two nights at The Strands Hotel in Nether Wasdale, and I can confidently say it’s one of those rare gems where you instantly feel at home—if your home also happens to have a brewery attached (which, sadly, mine does not). The building itself oozes character—“character” in this case, meaning the kind of charmingly aged décor that makes you wonder how many generations of hikers have slumped happily into those armchairs. My room had the same cosy, lived-in feel, though the mattress seemed to have lived a little too much life. Imagine sleeping on a stack of cardboard boxes that had lost an argument with a trampoline—surprisingly supportive in places you didn’t need, and utterly absent in places you did. Still, nothing a pint (or three) from the in-house microbrewery couldn’t remedy. Speaking of which—the food was superb, and the beer equally so. Whoever thought of combining hearty pub grub with freshly brewed ales deserves a medal. Or, at the very least, another pint. The real stars, though, were the hosts and staff: warm, friendly, and welcoming, the sort of people who make you feel like a regular even if you’ve only just learned how to pronounce “Wasdale.” In summary: come for the food, stay for the beer, and prepare your back for a night of adventurous mattress archaeology. Would I go back? Absolutely—though I might smuggle in a mattress topper next time.

Excellent food, with nice selection at breakfast and plenty of tasty vegan options. Fabulous bar with interesting beer brewed on site and great selection of whiskies. Really nice buzz and atmosphere in the afternoon and evening with plenty of locals and visitors. Relaxing and chilled breakfast which is perfect for the morning after. Friendly and attentive staff and service. Great location, quiet and scenic, with plenty of parking. Basic facilities in room, but comfortable for a long weekend especially if you are looking to spend most of the time out exploring or doing activities.
All ok

The purpose of my visit was to climb Scafell Pike..............a bucket list ambition. The Strands Inn was ideally located for the start-point of the climb near Wasdale Head. The accommodation was nothing special but that does not mean it was not adequate. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for showers. Breakfast was a great 'full English' and the Dinners were very generous and wholesome. The atmosphere at this hostelry was buzzing ..........what more could one ask for. The Strands Inn is under new management and David, the new owner, clearly knows his stuff and I wish them well in further promoting this great location.
There was nothing to draw attention to.

Location at the entrance to Wasdale is brilliant for walks in the southwest fells. It is a classic Lakeland Inn, rustic and atmospheric. The food in the bar was very good and the staff very accommodating and friendly. It was really handy that they could prepare a packed lunch for me which saved a visit to the shop a couple of villages away. The room was compact but the beds comfortable and the shower room spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was good but not quite as impressive as other places I’ve stayed. There was a mistake with our food order one evening but it was corrected and a couple of free drinks given to us which was a nice gesture. The curtains are pretty thin and with an east facing room it’s a good job we are early risers!

We arrived a little early but were checked in straight away. We shared the most delicious sandwich ever with a portion of tasty chips for lunch (ham baked in own brewed ale). Later we had dinner which was again super tasty. Breakfast next day was good too, just wish there had been black pudding even as an extra option. The team are lovely and friendly. It was fabulous weather and we enjoyed sitting out until late across the road at the picnic tables watching the night sky. The beds are really comfortable and the room had a beautiful view of the hills.

We stayed in a family room with a small private bathroom. The breakfast was excellent, with a good variety to choose from on the menu. Dinner was very nice too, though some evenings were better than others — it’s definitely worth booking a table in advance as it can get busy. The location is beautiful, with plenty of walking trails and spectacular views right on the doorstep.
Just be aware that the roads leading there are very narrow, especially if you’re driving a larger car, but that’s all part of the charm of a mountain location.

The location is perfect, it feels secluded but still close enough to a shop & lake spot! I personally loved that it was split into two and had lots of benches outside. The sun was shining and it is very quaint and cute! Can imagine it has a even better vibe in the summer when both pubs are open! - Although i did love how quiet it was. The staff were also very nice & helpful We ended up reserving a spot for dinner on arrival which was perfect as it meant we didn't have to do any more traveling that day and was close to the rooms. The rooms themselves had everything you needed such as hot drink supplies & towels. Super hot and powerful shower was an amazing start to the day followed by breakfast with the gang ready to take on Scafell <3
I honestly loved everything no complaints!

Good food, good location , good parking, nice bathroom ,friendly staff, lovely breakfast, decent pint - very comfy bed. Tea coffee shampoo body wash and soap. Would definitely book again. Also a good range of pillows for all forms of sleeping positions . I usually have to take my own but forgot my pillow. It didn't matter. The bath was an added bonus to relax your muscles after hiking!
Nothing really, for the price I was expecting rough and ready with basic facilities and a bad back after an awful night's sleep, but got quite the opposite. Wasn't sure if we could have food as we hadn't prebooked but they fitted us in and it was very busy.

My friend’s bed mattress wasn’t comfortable so we inform them and they changed it when we came back after a long hiking day. This made our stay really pleasant. They really took care of our comfort. I was highly impressed by their vegetarian food for dinner. I was doubtful if I’m gonna enjoy the meal but HANDS DOWN to take care of people’s choice. I had green (Thai) curry with vegetables (I’d call it chef’s magic), yellow veg peri rice, chutney and pappadum. While We stick with halal choice and having this vegetarian meal in the remote area is like a blessing for us!! 10/10 💯💯✨💖🎊
