beautiful grounds, and the weather was good as well. we loved the extra facilities of the kitchen and lounge. The staff ,especially the chef and lady on reception, went above and beyond for us. On our second night we realized we would not be able to feed my daughters 5 yr old special needs son and 2 year old daughter as we had no car and could not get to a shop to get food to cook in the kitchen I happened to mention this in the stables restaurant that morning and she had a word with the chef who agreed to stay open until 5.30p.m so, that we could buy a meal...we expected a takeaway , but they gave us a full meal to eat in...so kind and understanding.........Again on our departure day the lady on reception tried to call a taxi for us to go to Ravenglass to catch our train back to carlisle...couldn't get hold of one for hours...so, out of the kindness of her heart she and her son took us, two case, special needs pushchair and normal pushchair all to station !!!! ..............Wow!!!! so,so kind of them all...it made our time spent there even better. we would highly recommend this lovely accomadation an praise all their wonderful staff...
Although this doesn't really apply to the majority of children, just to mention that my Grandson being severely autistic and a major flight risk escaped from the main building as door was open to car park in the evening...he nearly got as far as main road before I caught him Maybe ,we should have asked in advance if that door could have been locked at night. so, not staffs fault really.....we live and learn.

1. Staff - was very welcoming. Showed us to our room, told us about all the facilities that we can access in the castle grounds and very receptive about feedback 2. Rooms - very warm and cozy. Comfortable beds. Large bathroom, great pressure for the shower. Very well equipped common kitchen and lounge area. 3. Castle grounds and the Bird experiences - just by themselves are amazing and were included as part of the room fare. Muncaster castle, its grounds and activities deserve a separate glowing review. Very happy with our stay
Being very petty here, there really wasn't anything we didn't like. But since there's always room to improve: 1. hooks/towel rack near/on the shower doors- no easy place to hang the towel. The towel rail was a little far from the shower. 2. starlight could have blinds instead of being blacked out to let visitors control the light in the room (was a very sunny day and wished there was a way we could let more sun in)

Sally in the Reception Office is an absolutely beautiful human- kind, welcoming, enthusiastic, very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I spoke to her on the phone before our party arrived and she answered lots of questions and was equally brilliant when we arrived/stayed. The accommodation is lovely- very comfortable beds, pillows etc. Good bathroom facilities with toiletries provided, excellently equipped kitchen and lots of room. Really good value for money and beautiful location. Absolutely loved our 2 night stay and can't wait to return.
The only negative was the fact that a large family group were also staying and their behaviour (loud talk, children running around, doors slamming etc) until the early hours of our first night there showed that they either did not know how to behave when sharing accomodation, or did not care. The staff were very apologetic about it but it wasn't their fault- the family's many adults should have known better.

Perfect family room for 4, common kitchen with a big fridge to share and a big room with 2 big tables to eat. My daughter and I enjoyed the hot chocolate ( you have a kettle and a choice of hot chocolate or tea or coffee in the room). Beautiful garden and play area for the I ds both included in the price of the room. Great staff, very helpful. Great location
Was just a bit disappointed by the opening times of the castle 12 to 4pm as we didn't then was able to visit as we arrived late the first night , then left early for a hike ( we did pillar mountain :thought but wonderful all the way) we were hoping to be back on time to visit as we were back at the car by 2.30 but sadly got a flat tyre so time it got sorted it was well past 4 and the next day we were leaving at first thought it opened at 9 so we could do it before leaving but as I checked I saw 12 and we had booked a mini cruise for 10.45 at Coniston.

We had a lovely stay at Muncaster castle. The accommodation was basic but had everything we needed for a family night away. Each and every member of staff we spoke with were amazing and friendly. We got free entry to all of the castle and activities as part of our stay. Tv with Netflix availability and WiFi for kids iPads when it was wet out. Would definitely stay again. The towels on the bed were made into animals which the kids adored. Free to roam the grounds all evening and use the park, we went for walks in the woods until 9.30pm. Bird shows and weapons practice excellent - staff amazing. Fallen in love with this place, so much history. Book purchased from shop for £5 re Muncaster history well worth a buy and a read. Loved it.
There were a few repairs in the bathroom and kitchen that needed doing - loose hot tap in bathroom, kitchen cupboards needed re painting and crack in bathroom walls. However this did not affect or ruin our stay.

We were expecting a shared bathroom, but it turned out the bathroom was just for our room. It was across the hall but had a clear sign that it was just for us, and to our knowledge it was not used by any other guests. We were anxious about the kitchen and dining spaces being shared - especially during the busy school holidays - as our children are autistic, but we only saw one or two people in there and it was very quiet and clean. Everyone was respectful of another's belongings and space, and there were no issues at all. Staff were absolutely lovely and I enjoyed chatting with them as they showed us around. Check in was very quick and easy. The parking was excellent - lots of space and right outside the door. Mega bonus - we hadn't realised that entry to the castle grounds and activities were included in the booking, so the kids (and I!) were absolutely over the moon when they found out they could do some axe throwing. Staff in the activities area also went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, and they were impressively patient with our children! We live a long drive away, but we will absolutely stay again if we're ever up this way. Thank you!
The only point for improvement would be the bunk beds. The mattresses on the top bunks align with the top of the safety rails, so our children were unable to sleep in the top bunks due to fears of them rolling off in the night. My husband slept on the top bunk and didn't sleep very well as he was afraid of falling off. We're an accident-prone family!

The Coachman's Quarters is a gorgeous place to stay. Our room was clean and spacious, the bed was big and comfy, the tea tray was well stocked, and we could see an eagle and a vulture (in their aviaries) from our bedroom window. If you like running there is a parkrun at Muncaster Castle every Saturday at 9am and it goes right past the Coachman's Quarters! We are big parkrun fans so this was a massive plus for us! It's fantastic that you get free entry wristbands in the room so you can visit the stunning gardens and the hawl and owl centre during your trip. We saw the Sky Hawks flying display which was brilliant!
The only improvement I could suggest would be to send an email a day or two before to say where the key collection will be for checking in after the reception desk has closed. We figured it out easily when we arrived, but an email beforehand would have saved us worrying about it on the way over.

Beautiful location. The staff couldn't be more helpful in all areas of the castle. The grounds were stunning so much to see and do. The castle cafe was perfect for breakfast once we'd checked out of our room. The check out time of 10.30 am we particularly liked it allowed for a lie in and a early run around the 65 acres and to the beach before breakfast. We visited the castle, watching the owl and falconry displays , took part in the archery, crossbow and hammer throwing then finishing the morning activities hungry at the sausage festival for lunch and a cool beer on the lawn. We'd definitely stay again.
Absolutely nothing not to like.

The space we had in the coachman’s quarters. Ideal for a family! It was very clean, the beds were incredibly comfy, staff were super friendly & kind . The grounds are just stunning , it took our breath away to be honest . The fact you’re at such a historical building is worth every penny . We aren’t a well off family and this was a ‘treat ‘ for us so £179 was a stretch for us but it was worth it and we would pay this again . We very much enjoyed our stay at Muncaster ! We would happily visit again . The owl show is incredible . It was very wet but we absolutely loved the care and consideration to the birds . The show was cut short for the birds welfare . 5*s to Muncaster staff for this . The care you show your animals is incredible . Not enough places do this to the level you do . Thank you Muncaster . We hope to visit again soon .
Staff driving really fast into the carpark which is where our door opened onto , we have dogs & 3 young children & wish the staff driving to work were a little less in a rush. We couldn’t see the oncoming cars from room 9. Also, please consider more coffee other than Decaff ! We were gutted to not have a ‘real coffee’ first thing. It was very wet in the morning for the owl display - we would have loved to have had the opportunity to come back and explore the gardens without having to pay again. We’re staying locally but have to pay to enter the gardens again.

2nd visit here. Location was stunning right next to Muncaster Castle. Our room (number 9) was huge. It is a family room, so it had a perfect size for ourselves and our dog. It has kitchenette, private bathroom and living room. We loved it. With your stay you have access to the owl and hawk centre and for a small fee you can entry the castle. We didn’t do it this time because dogs aren’t allowed inside the castle. Short walk (about 30 minutes) to the village of Ravenglass. We have dinner at the Pennington Hotel. Book a table to avoid disappointments.
