Hótel Egilsen was the smallest hotel I stayed at in Iceland, but it was by far the most enchanting! With only 10 rooms, booking a stay here feels like finding a hidden treasure. From the moment you step into the lobby, greeted warmly by Chris, you're transported to another time—it's like stepping into a time capsule. The soft oldies music playing in the background added to the charm, and the little library was a delightful touch (I even found myself reading Arabian Nights). My room, though small, was a perfect blend of quaint and modern, cozy and comfortable. The shower pressure was divine! The next morning, the ladies at the hotel had a delicious breakfast spread waiting for me. This is the kind of hotel you wish you could return to time and time again. I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Stykkishólmur and staying here while exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

The staff is lovely, the hotel is very pretty, the common area for breakfast and tea/coffee/drinks is really nice and very social. We appreciated that tea and coffee (served to you at a table) is complimentary. We really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff and talking to them. We also appreciated that they let us split 1 breakfast for 2 people. It was a very generous amount of food and delicious. The restaurant across the street was very convenient (though pricey).
The rooms and bathroom are very very small. They work fine if you know what to expect and don't have too much luggage. But it's definitely not a room you can hang out in or spend too much time in.

Beautiful old property in a great location for exploring the beautiful Snaefellnes Peninsula. Very friendly and helpful staff who we enjoyed chatting too. Lovely lounge area where you can sit and enjoy complimentary tea of coffee and bring in food of your own to eat in the evening. Two excellent restaurants on the doorstep that we would highly recommend. Stykkishólmur itself is a sweet little fishing town with great views from the lighthouse over the sea and the harbour.
We had a standard room under the eaves which was lovely but very small. Next time I would opt for a superior room.

Location was perfect. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. The breakfast was beautiful and delicious.
A little “tired”. Old gold carpet that could use an update. Be aware what room you’re booking. We booked a double standard which was located in the top floor and had the eaves of the roof. I’m very short and could not stand up in half of the room. We only stayed one night but would have been an issue if we’d been there multiple days. I booked the lowest price room in the facility so it’s on me but making others aware of that consideration.

A quaint hotel in an old home. The woman at the desk made us feel welcome. She was extremely helpful and was able to answer our questions about the area. The breakfast was served to each table and not a buffet. It was yummy. Very comfortable hotel in a great location for the ferry to the Westfjords.
We needed to reserve a time for breakfast. The room was on the second floor. No elevator. They will help with luggage if you ask. The hotel needs a better sign! We had trouble figuring out where it was!

We absolutely loved this hotel! The lady that checked us in was very helpful and our room was excellent. We had plenty of room to spread out, the bathroom was very clean, and the beds were very comfy. There were plenty of outlets for each side of the beds which was nice. Breakfast was the best one of our trip! Presentation was beautiful, but it was also healthy and tasty. Loved the smoothies!
The only very slight drawback is that parking is a bit tight as people use it to go to the restaurant across the street. The lady at the desks told us how to park though, so it worked out.

We were on a 2-week trip in Iceland for my hubby's 50th birthday and this was his favourite place. I don't think they knew it was his birthday but they treated us better than anywhere else. It is an impeccably-furnished, totally gorgeous historical guesthouse with wonderful staff, food and warmth. Our room was small but perfect and breakfast was delicious. The town itself is really lovely. Make sure you pre-book Sjavarpakkhusid (kind of opposite) restaurant for dinner - it was also glorious (see photos). Thanks for making this such a special stop on our Icelandic journey!

I just loved Hotel Egilsen. I have a single room and, yes, it was one of the smallest rooms I have ever stayed in (and i have stayed in quite a few small rooms across Europe). But it was super comfortable and I felt very much at home. The room was very well organized for its size, with plenty of storage and organization space built in. The bed was very comfortable. Best, the shower was phenomenal. Amazing for such a small, historic property. I loved my view and the location right next to the harbor. In sum, it was just a joy to stay at this historic charming small hotel. Breakfast was nice too and worth paying for. WiFi worked great too.
I liked everything!

This is a hotel full of character, in a lovely small fishing village. We very much enjoyed our one night stay in the village but we were glad we were only one night in the hotel. Our room was clean and tidy. We were greeted in a very friendly way too and the staff were very helpful.
I knew that we had an attic room but I honestly hadn't appreciated how tight it was for space. We had to pull the bed away from the wall so that my husband could get in , because of the sloping roof. If I had realised, I would have paid a bit extra for a bigger room. The bed was also smaller than I had expected too. Because of previous reviews and the price of the hotel, I was expecting something really special and I ended up a little disappointed. This was our last stop after staying at a number of other places around Iceland and I felt it was overpriced compared to most of the other places we had stayed in. The breakfast was not included in the roommate either and it would have been about 21€ each and that seemed very expensive, even by Icelandic standards.

A very welcoming experience in a hotel that feels far more personal and in ways more like a guest house. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, happy for us to bring fish and chips from the harbour front (Hafnarvagninn - recommended) to eat in the cozy reception where many guests were hanging out with a drink. We opted for breakfast (which wasn't included) and this was really well presented, not as a buffet but as an individual full table spread.
Our room was a little bit small as it was situated in the eaves of the building and the bathroom door, being made of smoked glass, didn't provide quite as much privacy as I'd have liked
