We had a truly wonderful stay at Miðhraun – Lava Resort! Tucked away in the Icelandic countryside, this location was perfect for exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in a loop. We traveled as a family, and our kids especially loved being on a working sheep farm — there were sheep and lambs roaming all around, which made the stay feel magical. The thermal pool and sauna were incredible and made for a relaxing end to our days. There’s also a cold plunge pond and a beautiful little creek nestled along a lava rock hill — it was like something out of a storybook. Our children also adored the outdoor play area, especially the bouncing pad. The on-site restaurant was delicious, though slightly pricey, which is fairly typical for Iceland. We stayed in one of the houses and loved it — two bedrooms downstairs, a cozy loft upstairs, and a washer and dryer (a huge bonus when traveling in Iceland!). The kitchen was well-stocked for cooking meals, though there was no microwave or freezer (also common for Iceland). Beds were very comfortable, including the bunk beds for the kids. There was plenty of space for our family of four, and parking was very convenient. All in all, I can’t say enough good things about this peaceful, idyllic retreat. Highly recommend for families looking for a relaxing and scenic stay!
The only downside was the lack of proper blackout curtains in the bedrooms — but that seems to be common across Iceland and didn’t take away from how lovely our stay was.

We were in a cottage (Hraun) and the tiny house was absolutely great. Exceeded our expectations! Self check-in and checkout was very efficient. The hot tub was very modern and changing facilities were available (heated!). All in all we had a great stay!
It was hard to reach staff in case of questions, email roundtrip times are 24hrs+. Restaurant was closed on day 1 of our stay but nearby are two cafe/bistros where you can grab some food too. When we were there there were actually strong winds which made a squeaking sound, not sure where it came from, might be that windows are not 100% tight but might also be the outside.

Wow. What can I say. An absolutely wonderful experience. We found the staff welcoming and helpful. Everything was as it was promoted to be by other customers. The geothermal pool was just what was in order after a long few days of traveling. Very restful. We ate dinner at the onsite restaurant--Halðan. It was fantastic my son and I got the Mushroom soup starter and then I got the Roasted lamb while my son who is Vegan enjoyed a meal especially prepared for him. I found everyone very accommodating.
The only challenge we ran into was the electric in the kitchen wasn't working on the morning of our departure. I was able to boil water in my room by using the instant boil pot in a bedroom plug but the toaster from the kitchen wouldn't work and may need replacing. I only mention these as it may inconvenience someone else. As it were we had to get moving early to see sites around the Snaefellsnus peninsula.

We liked the facilities a lot. The hot pot was exceptional. The food in the restaurant was expensive, but very delicious. The staff were always very friendly.
We received a generous amount of fried eggs and bacon, but only one slice of cheese per person, which we felt was not sufficient considering the price of the breakfast. The nice and spacious kitchen was completely empty, so we couldn’t use the drip coffee maker. Similar hotels keep non-perishable items left by previous guests (such as jam, for example). Perhaps you could consider introducing a similar system.

Beautiful property, very clean room, basic kitchen tools to cook a small meal. Nice to have access to the mineral spa
Really in the middle of nowhere. 30 minutes to the nearest supermarket. If exploring the peninsula need to backtrack if staying for two or more days. Also staff upon entry was rude complaining about having to work for 13 hours instead of being friendly to a tired traveler. Also had an issue with the washing machine. Eventually, it was fixed, but we needed to leave with wet clothes as it was not done in a timely manner.

We loved the location and the natural hot springs and thought it was a beautiful property with sheep as well! We ate at the restaurant which was really delicious and had great decor as well and would recommend it to others.
The room was very small especially with a baby and not enough outlets to charge things. Also, the shared bathroom was difficult because there is a toilet inside and i wish they were separated because people would use it for the bathroom while we were waiting to use it to shower.

Really nice rooms, and excellent value for a travelling family. We actually upgraded from the shared family room to the four-person private cabin, so had a good look at both. The family room was small but very clean, with superb shared facilities (kitchen especially good). Very much the best such shared facility room we had in Iceland. The cabin was really nice -- comfortable, clean, nice decor, good kitchen. The staff were also great about faciliating the upgrade.
The restaurant is OK, but only OK -- not a lot of choice, and lamb a bit overcooked, and very expensive. The cooker hoods in the apartments are a bit of a hazard as they are transparent and at eye level over a kitchen island.

Loved the facilities, view and cabin itself.
Just one gripe. Half my fault. I booked a triple shared room because nothing else was available for my dates. One day after my cancelation period ended a two bedroom home opened up and I booked that [almost 250 Euro more]. They refused to cancel the previous rooms saying no one would book it...even though by the time I got there someone had booked it as I met the people staying in the rooms. I could understand if I just cancelled but I actually got a more expensive room and they would not refund the other. Other than that the staff was great.

Everything was perfect! The staff was the best, welcoming and really friendly. We had a problem, and they did everything they could to compensate for it. Modern cabins and properly equipped.
Looks like no one properly checks the cabins before guests arrival. We had two issues, both annoying. First one was the not working jacuzzi (we ONLY rented the apartment because of it, if not we would have rented a cheaper one), and they did not fix it until our second and last day after around 17-18 hours (they knew about the issue, they should have send someone first thing next day). Second one were the locks, they are just completely stuck (I do understand the lock mechanism because I used it before) but in this apartment they just simply did not work, or they did not properly locked. Having said that, the staff compensate us with free drinks and dessert and free entrance to the thermal baths. Still, apartments should have someone check them before guests arrival, and have them fixed.

The free spa facilities were amazing! I especially loved the cold plunge into the nearby pond and then hopping back into the hot tub to warm up again! The property was quiet, the food (dinner and breakfast) were both delicious, and the staff was super friendly. This resort truly has a warm and homey feeling to it and I look forward to visiting again on my next trip to Iceland :)
The room was small, with not much wiggle room. However, it was okay for one night.
