This is not a luxury property, but one with a lot of character, a strong sense of place and history. I transferred to this hotel after really disliking Maison Marineta (which is rated higher here on Booking but definitely should not be). I wasn’t sure at the time of booking Art Boutique Hotel Chamarel, mostly because the photos here on Booking are not great, but I was pleasantly surprised. This property is an old house in the center of Denia’s old town with curious unique touches and pieces of art throughout both old and new. I was upgraded to a very spacious room with a cute private balcony (with table and chairs) and a bathroom with natural light facing an inner courtyard. The mattress was fine; I slept well also because there were wonderful old school “persianas” which blocked the light nicely. Many guests seemed to enjoy the common spaces ordering drinks and sweets prepared at the bar by the one employee who was also responsible for check in and every other aspect of the hotel. The team here is very small. I also loved the sound of the nearby church bells.

Some of the staff really did seem overworked and tired, as if they might prefer not to be there. It very well might be that they’re not compensated well and need help. But I feel this property should have a higher rating overall, so I’m not letting this affect the score. But the hotel has the potential to become something more.

Fantastic characterful building on quiet super clean pedestrian street. Lovely friendly and helpful staff - great room. Breakfast in the courtyard could not be better. Secure and easy to access parking and very dog friendly. Location superb. WE WILL BE BACK.

Nothing- apart from Booking.com selling me a room with breakfast - but hotel owner knew. Nothing about the breakfast- which caused some embarrassment on both sides as we were checking out. Owner was most honourable and accepted confirmation of my Booking .com reservation confirmation which clearly showed breakfast included. This was not the hotel's fault.

Perfect old-fashioned style hotel in the middle of the old town. Awesome vibe, furniture, aromas - a kind of time-machine feeling. Shops, restaurants around. Parking for 17 eur/night - very convenient.

Very thin walls and old doors with no sound isolation. Was listening half of the night patient lovers from the room next to me - and feeling was, that I was 3d one in their room! No elevator, stairs only (not a minus, just FYI). Parking system: entrance to the street of the hotel is closed by pillars. To enter the street you need to call to the hotel, they will open it remotely. The whole process could be described more thoroughly in the message I received - with pictures, where to drive, where to stay, where to go to pick-up the keys etc. NB! Impossible to find a parking space close to the hotel - better book the parking in advance!

Checked in at the hotel and lady from hotel walked us to the apartment which was about 350metres away (2 min walk) both hotel and apartment in the old town. You could use the hotel facilities also, if you wanted breakfast, you just let them know and they had a lovely bar, snug etc. Lovely apartment, well equipped kitchen. Nice stylish bathroom, dog friendly, had bowls left for dog. lovely courtyard at rear which housed the washing machine/tumble dryer. Excellent location, right in the middle of the old town and just up the street was the old town square and castle. The underground car park we used as the hotel car park was booked was about 10min flat walk through town. Handy smart tv which had prime and Netflix to sign in to. Supermarkets within 2 minutes walk and bars/restaurants.

Didn't realise that the bathroom was on the ground floor, as upstairs it is just a mezzanine bedroom, so at night if you needed the bathroom it was a bit hairy going down the stairs, but that is just personal preference to have bathroom upstairs.

The hotel's location was excellent, and the staff were generally very attentive. Just a reminder to be mindful of noise if arriving late. Overall, the room had everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Something to be aware of: Room 206 experiences significant external noise from the nearby kitchen extractor fan. This could be disruptive, so if you're a light sleeper, it might be worth requesting a different room. Additionally, the kettle in the room had visible limescale, suggesting it hasn't been used often. We proceeded with caution when using it.

The setting of the hotel is wonderful. The staff were accommodating to our needs. The location was ideal for wandering around Denia. Our bedroom suite was a great size to accommodate a family of 4. The art and outside setting were lovely. I would definitely recommend and would likely stay again in the future.

The hotel has 4 turtles in the courtyard (which my children loved.) However, we felt worried about their lack of space and lack of enrichment. We felt worried about who cares for them day to day.

We stayed in the apartment which is a few minutes away from the hotel. The entire place was excellent with very original and tasteful decoration. The location is very good - just off the main restaurant street. The courtyard was beautifully presented with lots of live plants and even a palm tree. The staff were very friendly and very helpful.

There were a couple of issues when we arrived but these were quickly and efficiently resolved.

The property was breath taking, a mixture of Moroccan, 1920s design dotted with modern art and antiques. An absolute hidden gem. It has a wonderful courtyard garden where we enjoyed a glass of wine and a continental breakfast. It is conveniently placed in the old town near the route to the castle and we were spoiled for choice with restaurants but it’s on a charming , quiet little street. We actually ate at the restaurant next door, ‘Babilonia’. Great food and gorgeous ambiance also.

Nothing!

This is an amazing little gem in the heart of the old town, everthing is in easy walking distance and the hotel itself looks like a converted palace with great character and art work. The hotel provides paid parking which I would recommend booking as parking in the old town is hard to find. The instructions for accessing the hotel/parking provided are really good but be careful not to wander off the main roads as there are many narrow streets. There are lots of great restaurants nearby.

nothing springs to mind.

The place is exquisite. The first thing to strike you is the delicious smoked perfume of the hotel lobby. It is a gem in the heart of Denia, full of soul. A stunning grand house with a gorgeous interior patio full of vines, ferns and a tree or two. There are even some terrapins in a stone font. Staff are friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable with nice beds and lovely decor. Overall a big thumbs up 👍

Nothing not to like.
