Just about walking distance from getting off the overnight bus from Matara to Trincomilee. Staff were first class. Perfect English spoken and the Guy was very informative,he also arranged scooter hire. Breakfast was included so fantastic value for money.

The area itself. I did not do my research. This North East coastal area is strictly seasonal and it was a total waste of 3 days off my Sri Lanka trip going there. It's virtually deserted,no people and many places are closed or empty. The beaches are dirty and the ocean is not clear The seas are far too rough so all boats are grounded. Forget Pigeon Island,it's closed and that was the only reason I went there,to snorkel with the black tip sharks. I believe their season is February to August but please check? DO NOT GO IN NOVEMBER!!!!! You have been warned

Lovely roof top terrace where we had breakfast. Our ground floor room was a family room with four beds for the two of us so therefore, and for our requirements, the room was a bit too cluttered and most of its space taken up by the beds. There was a concrete wall right in front of the room’s windows, so not much of a view. However, the owner, who was very friendly and helpful, offered to move us to a different room on the second floor the next day. Also, the bathroom was very clean with modern appliances. The Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent! There was plenty of food for the two of us and everything was very tasty.

There are two main things we weren’t too happy with: Firstly, the hotel’s location, which is roughly halfway between Trincomalee town and Uppuveli Beach. The stretch of the beach closest to the hotel is littered with plastics and offers nothing in terms of tourist entertainment. Also, there are virtually no restaurants within walking distance, so you’ll have to take a tuktuk to go somewhere for lunch or dinner (though the hotel also has a restaurant I believe). Secondly, the wifi signal in our downstairs room was pretty much non existent, and mobile network was very poor, too. Dogs barking all through the night kept us awake, though there’s not much to do about this.

The family running this hotel is incredibly warm and intentionally have created a space for travelling families. They were wonderful with my son, providing lots of suggestions on local places to visit to make our stay memorable. They recommended a operator to take us snorkelling (Kamal) and recommended marble beach aswell. Both highlights of our time in Trincomalee. Thanks so much! I also liked that outside of the room was a drying rack to dry all our beach clothes.

Towels were a little small but when I asked for a replacement they were very accomodating!

We loved our stay here so much we extended our stay. The hospitality was outstanding, by far the friendliest hosts we have ever encountered and we have travelled a lot!! Jacob was so friendly and warm and we felt like he and his wife treated us like family. The room was super clean, the breakfast was amazing and different every day. There was ample food in fact it filled us up until dinner time. No need for lunch. The atmosphere staying there with other guests that clearly felt as relaxed as us whilst staying at Tibiko was an incredible experience, one that I will not forget. The young man working there was super polite, helpful and very efficient too. I have terminal cancer and travelling whilst I feel well and in-between treatment. This experience was truly healing. I would recommend staying here without a doubt. See you soon Jacob as we certainly intend to visit again.

Nothing not to like. Truly a special place

I honestly love how they treat locals the same as they treat foriegeners. Nowadays, in many places in Sri Lanka, it lacks. The owner Jacob is very friendly, and we feel very welcomed. He also made sure to provide whatever we requested , he was kind and very attentive. The boy who is helping him is also a great kid, he's well educated and talks very good English. Jacob's wife made the breakfast, and it was so delicious. The room was clean and had enough space for 4/5 people, the bathroom was clean, and the room had a cupboard too. And the other best thing is it's just a 1-minute walk to the Uppiveli beach. We all loved our stay. No complaints. Top notch service. Thank you, Jacob and others, for making this stay a memorable one.

It felt like a home stay, everyone was super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice but there was too much.

The facilities in the room was limited, no hairdryer, no bedside table, no bedside light. No blanket, yes it's a hot room, but I can't sleep without covering. It would be better if we were asked what we wanted for breakfast as a lot of the food they put on the table wasn't touched as I didn't like it, so was wasted. Not the hotels fault, but the beach was almost a commercial beach and there were no facilities for sunbathing and although I wanted to, I felt uncomfortable going for a swim.

Spacious room with balcony and view of the sea from main terrace. Abundant and tasty breakfast which was different both mornings. Mr Jacob and his lovely wife could not have been more helpful. They sat and chatted to is for ages and were interesting and friendly.. gave good recommendations for local bars and restaurants and even removed our tuk tuk mats to clean them before we left. Lovely watching fishing boats go out in the morning before breakfast. Iwould highly recommend this hotel and it is easily accessible to bars/restaurants/shops and places of interest

The street entry to the hotel is a little daunting and sadly the beach is littered with rubbish but don't let this deter you at all. It's nothing to do with the hotel.

The owner and his family and staff all are so kind, always doing their best to make you feel at home/have the most enjoyable stay. Also very honest and helpful arranging tuk tuks/private taxi drives at an unbeatable cost by making phone calls for you. I also really enjoyed the nice conversations with Jacob (the owner) + chatting with his wife, who took some time to show me some ingredients when I asked some questions about the delicious food I ate for breakfast every morning. Lastly, the wifi was pretty good. Overall, more than recommended. Thank you so much again!

The only thing that could be improved was the shower's pressure that was pretty weak but it's just a detail, really.

We recently stayed at Hotel Tobiko in Trincomalee, and it was such a lovely experience! The location is perfect—just a short walk to the beach, making it super convenient for anyone looking to enjoy the beautiful coastline. The real highlight of our stay was the incredible hospitality. The uncle and aunty who run the place are so kind and welcoming. They truly made us feel at home and were always ready to help with anything I needed. Their warmth and care really added a personal touch to the stay. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and freshly prepared! It was the perfect way to start our day. Overall, Hotel Tobiko is a cozy, well-located place with amazing hosts and great food. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Trincomalee!
