This is an amazing spot, basically part of the cathedral's old walked fortification. Historic and fascinating. Perfect room/place for solo traveler/pilgrim backpacker like me. Shared bath was super clean with a fine shower. Bed was very comfortable. There's a rooftop level deck with cathedral views, a small bar on premises too. In a lively area of town. Staff is excellent in every way, friendly and informative. Breakfast was verygood with excellent fresh fruit. Would not hesitate to return.

The hotel is very olde worldy with fabulous staff. The location in central Canterbury is ideal with everything you might want to visit being easily accessible. Breakfast is served either in your room or in one of two small dining rooms. The continental breakfast that comes as standard with your booking is fine or you can upgrade at an additional cost to a full English breakfast. The building itself is rather "wonky" which is charming and given the age of the building, probably to be expected. If traveling to Canterbury by car, don't forget to buy discounted parking via the hotel. The hotel has many more rooms than it appears to from it's facade and includes a lounge area, outdoor patio area and licensed bar. Our room, although not large, was clean and comfortable as was the en suite. Loved the super white, fluffy towels! The addition of a fierce free standing fan was very much appreciated during the current heat wave. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

We initially drove right past the hotel as part of the hotel and Cathedral gate has scafolding on it at the moment. Directions were not as good as they could have been and we would have appreciated an explaination of how the drop down bollards work and that if driving to drop off luggage, there is a need to go through them.

At check in was offered for £30 more ( already paid for single room - shared bathrm 3rd flloor on Mon 28 July) to have a Double ensuite - bath on 1st floor. Said YES. View from bedroom window a real WOW - Canterbury Cathedral. Modern small bathroom. Water nice & hot for much needed soak as my back was bad from sitting long period in coaches. Also staff were able to cater for my wheat/ cows milk intolerance so could have GF toast & oat milk on porridge.

The hotel is literally attached to the Christ Church Gate of Canterbury Cathedral. Rod (Ron?) checked me in and was so kind as to offer me my choice of rooms. I stayed in Joy - aptly named because of the postcard-perfect view of the Cathedral immediately outside the window. The room has a full bathroom with a tub but no shower, which turned out to be a blessing for long soaks after full days of walking. The included continental breakfast is excellent, served in a room overlooking the square. Another review described the room layout at higgledy piggledy and that is spot on and part of this wonderful property's charm!

I loved everything! One detail to know about, there are a lot of stairs and very tight staircases. The staff handles your luggage!

Everything... Old hotel full of character. The staff were all lovely and helpful. One staff member in particular (Monica) was exceptionally helpful recommending places to visit and asking how your day had been when you returned to the hotel in the evening. This hotel is one of the most friendly hotels I've ever stayed in. On top of that the building is old and full of traditional character. It was clean and well maintained and walking distance to everything you want to do in Canterbury. Will definitely return

Staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful - certainly felt like a valued guest. Breakfast was fantastic and plenty of it - nothing too much trouble. Great communal areas so didn’t have to sit in your room all the time. Bar a great bonus - could have a relaxing drink before and after going out. Parking quite close and reduced parking cost through hotel

Our room was on the pedestrian walkway - noise of pedestrians was ok - expect that - but the street light was right outside our window and lit up the room over top of curtains which resulted in a slightly disturbed sleep - waking up thinking it was daylight -suggest black out blind on the window which would stop light coming over curtains possibly

The Breakfast dining room was beautifully situated above Precinct Square so morning tea and breakfast were entertaining as we watched the city wake up.. Cathedral Gate Hotel is right by the Cathedral which I visited 4 times in one day. The beds are comfy and the tea things in the room include cream (something that is not found everywhere. Parking was a snap once you knew who to call (the desk). Welcoming staff told us about important events and sites nearby.

We had noise from the street which died out after 10 pm. Not the fault of staff or amenities, just a condition of stay.

An excellent located hotel right in the middle of the City and beside the cathedral gate. The staff were welcoming and obliging. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. There are steep stairs which is my only cautionary comment, however, the staff volunteered to help with cases if necessary. I had to move room and that was conducted with minimum effort and my new room gave me a view of the Cathedral. I would stay again.

Perhaps the breakfast yoghurt might be better presented in bowl rather than than the Tesco carton! Not a big deal

The staff was so generous and helpful. Breakfast is in a charming room with beautiful bow windows. The service was incredibly thoughtful. Everyone wanted to make me as happy as possible. Just remarkable. My single room was tiny but charming. I even had a view! The historic stairs are very narrow and my room was at the top. Normally this wouldn’t have been a problem, but I’m having some hip trouble, so it was a bit tricky this time. They were very kind about carrying up my luggage!

Amazing location literally next door to the Cathedral , everywhere is within easy walking distance. Lovely quirky boutique hotel with comfortable rooms and plenty of character. A very warm welcome by the owner and staff who were keen to make sure everything went well with our stay, full of local knowledge and recommendations.

Looking onto Burgate as our room did does come with outside noise. Next time I would book a room at the back of the hotel looking onto the Cathedral.
