The room, despite being on a busy high street next to two pubs, was very quiet - I didn't hear anything except when people walked past my room. There was a coffee machine in the room with pods which was a lovely touch. Room was exceptionally clean and the bathroom was very modern and luxurious. There was aircon in the room which was a godsend as we were visiting during a warm time. Location is great too, and fantastic communication from the staff.

It would have been nice to have complementary toothpaste in the room, but that's only because we forgot to bring some! There was a Sainsburys local very close by so we could pick up anything we forgot.

Fab location, very central, big bedrooms, really comfy beds, very clean and new looking. Coffee facilities, functional kitchen, beautiful bathroom this is great location for the centre. It is a really cute place to stay we were very happy and have already recommended to others and want to come back.

The back bedroom was extremely hot even with the fan on, can’t be helped but the windows have safety measures so only open a tiny bit. The front bedroom and living room were exposed to a lot of noise Canterbury centre is busy and noises with trucks and deliveries first thing and night life til gone 3am the windows are thin because it’s a lovely old building, it is to be expected when that central and ear plugs were provided

Neat and tidy, clean and quiet. The location was just perfect. Great shower, comfy bed, loads of cushions. The room was entered by a keypad, so no worries about losing the keys. We never saw a soul during our two-night stay but came back from our first day of wandering to a perfectly made-up bed, coffee, and washing supplies restocked. All-in-all, a great stay!

The room was minute, just slightly larger than the width of the bed, and not much floor space for two people to move around in, but not a huge problem as we were out for most of the time. The heating seemed stifling, even when we turned it off. The windows only opened a crack, and it got really stuffy and airless overnight. I know the reason windows don't open fully in these places is because of health and safety rules, but it was a bit sweaty in there!

The location is great. The little touches of milk, juice, chips and chocolate brioche and great coffee was a winner. The apartment is well put together with a good homely feel.

Parking, distance of parking from the main door and the price of parking were all quite painful. Nothing that can be fixed by The Hugo. The floor in the second bedroom felt like it was collapsing but not a concern. The inability to lock the apartment door from the inside with a chain or something, was a danger for my toddler who can open doors. The mattresses were very soft to almost the point of being unsupportive.

The Hugo is a fantastic place to stay if you're visiting Canterbury. It's located right on the high street, so everything is within walking distance — shops, restaurants, and major attractions like the cathedral. It’s also just a short walk from the train station and the long-stay parking nearby, which made our arrival super convenient. The room was clean, stylish, and well-equipped with thoughtful touches like a Nespresso machine and luxury toiletries. Check-in was smooth and hassle-free. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort and location in one!

If a light sleeper, may need ear plugs. The hotel is in between 2 pubs so until 11pm ish you may still hear noises if you decide to sleep with the windows open.

The room was almost perfect for a short stay. The location is 10/10 room quality is above average and price is spot on. Sound proofing is very good. Facilities are just what is required.

1. Could be a little cleaner. 2. Bathroom floor and shower tray are very slippery when wet. 3. Extractor should be 6" not 4" as the steam makes the room damp. 5. The bedding was clean but put on damp and smelled a little musty and needed airing before sleeping. If this was not an issue then easy 10/10. I can see at some point in the future an accident in the shower on that floor. I build high end houses for a living and always look at workmanship. The standard is very high and should be commended. Albeit the design not perfect.. I would also suggest the ability to purchase a parking permit as the carpark is opposite but can't be used.

This is our second stay at the Hugo over the last few years, and its location and facilities still remain unbeaten as the ideal overnight stay in the center of Canterbury (in our case to attend a play at the nearby Marlowe Theatre). The coded hotel and room doors make it feel very secure, and are simple to operate. The room facilities are all you require albeit in a compact format, except for the bathroom which is 'full-size' with a very good walk-in shower. The nearest car park is 3 minutes walk around the corner, and there are plenty of nice affordable eateries within very short walking distance. Unless you are looking for a grander hotel with reception staff, I doubt it can be beaten, especially at that rate. We will definitely use the Hugo again next time we are in Canterbury

As stated by previous reviewers, the pounding music coming from the bar next door on a Saturday night is nearly deafening but it stops around 23:00-23:30 so will only be a real problem if you want to spend your evening indoors. Not enough of a deterrent from coming back though!

Location was great, would be noisy at the weekend I expect. We had the small room it was very cosy. Shower was lovely. Room came with a bottle of water each and pods for the coffee machine. They ask that you have no TV or music after 11 which was fine for us but good to know in advance. Plenty of sockets and good options for room lighting. Mattress was foam but comfy, the pillows I found the foam one too thick and the soft one too thin but it's a very personal thing 🙂

The property smelt very strongly of air freshener, we opened the window but it didn't really improve.

The location is right in the central part of Canterbury close to everything of interest. Since I had a long drive that day (from Durham in the north) I arrived late almost 8 pm. But the accommodation provider had arranged everything perfectly sending me the code so I could get in no problem.

Maybe it was just me but I had trouble at first actually finding the hotel until I asked some shop nearby and they there where the “H”. A very low-key entrance! Maybe a sign somewhere actually saying “The Hugo” would help?

Very nicely decorated room with a large comfortable bed and an excellent bathroom. Great city centre location, right above shops in the main street. A little noisy pre bedtime, but it quietened down a lot after pub closing hours.

My only minor issues were that the coffee machine could only make tassimo style coffees - no option for making tea or even decaff cofffee etc. Also, the bathroom lacked a simple shelf to put our wasbags and toiletries on. No big deal but these things are easy to fix and make a big difference
